  • Here at Harr Travel, we have so many clients that love the Viking Ocean product. The relaxed atmosphere, and exploration centered journeys have truly set themselves apart from many of the major brands. This "Complete Guide" will provide you with the information you need to choose the perfect stateroom, as well as an overview of what these ships have to offer.
    Reach out to Harr Travel to book your next Viking Ocean cruise!
    res.harrtravel.com/contact
    Viking Ocean Cruises boasts a fleet of new, all-veranda, state-of-the-art ocean ships. Each identical sister ship carries only 930 guests and is engineered at a scale that allows direct access into most ports. Classified by Cruise Critic as “small ships,” the fleet features understated elegance and modern Scandinavian design.
    Although they don't consider themselves a "luxury" brand, they offer a substantial amount of inclusions that provide their customers that ability to explore the world in comfort. This is consistent with their balcony only design, and the space ratio that their ships provide.
    Where Viking Travels
    With the widest ocean horizons filled with possibility, there are destinations to explore, cultures to welcome you and fantastic natural beauty to behold. Featuring many cruises from 7 to 200+ days you can see as much of the world as you desire, and with the smaller ship size they can often get into smaller ports as well.
    Stateroom Features
    Viking's intimate, all-veranda ships offer a wide variety of staterooms for your selection. From Veranda Staterooms to the abundance of extra perks and amenities in their spacious Explorer Suites, there’s no finer way to travel. And whichever stateroom you choose, you will find it beautifully designed in the understated elegance for which Viking is known.
    The main difference between the room categories are the reservations for the complementary excursions, and specialty dining. The earlier you have access to these offerings the easier it is to get exactly what you want on your cruise. For this reason alone many people avoid the introductory Veranda Stateroom since it does not have any guaranteed restaurant reservations and is the last in line to book excursions.

    Very nice tour of the ship. Thank you. Glad to see they have glass doors on the shower as opposed to a shower curtain. Like that they also are not trying to be all things to all people and so have no casino, no kids, and no formal nights. Not for everyone, but great for those of us who look for those attributes.

    They have a free self-serve launderette on each passenger deck. This is a welcome feature, and I see it as an extension of Viking's no nickel-and-diming approach.
    In the base veranda stateroom, the fridge in the room will be stocked at the beginning of your cruise, but there is a charge to restock items. In the deluxe veranda and higher categories, the fridge will be restocked daily at no charge. Penthouse veranda and higher rooms also will be stocked with alcoholic beverages. Deluxe veranda and higher rooms have an in-room coffee maker, also restocked daily.
    We greatly enjoyed our South America & Chilean Fjords cruise and will be taking more Viking cruises, both ocean and river.

    We loved everything about our Viking Ocean experience, and I am sure that we will do another cruise with Viking Ocean. My only gripe is that I think that their itineraries are uninspiring. We love the itineraries on Azamara, and that is one reason why Azamara is our favorite cruise line. We thoroughly enjoy the late nights and overnights that they provide. We also like the smaller ports, ports that are off of the beaten path, which Viking does not seem to prioritize. Seabourn and Sea Dream also seem to have pretty good itineraries. Who else in the Azamara price range do you think is providing high quality itineraries?

    • @HarrTravel
      @HarrTravel  3 года назад +5

      We have done 9 Azamara for that reason. Their direct competition would be Oceania.

      I celebrated my 40th on the Viking Sky in 2019. My sister was 33. We look younger than our years. A lot of the other guests were so sweet - they’d come up to us and say, “Well you don’t look like the typical demographic,” or “Are you sure you’re not supposed to be on a Disney Cruise?” Hahaha!! Once you cruise with Viking, everything else pales in comparison. Honestly - they do everything “just right”. Nothing too much…but nothing too little either. Fabulous cruise line!

I like that they don't have people pushing to make money out of you. I hate that when I go anywhere. What made me relax was when he said that it wasn't luxury. Sounds like luxury to me!

We had booked a similar but slightly longer cruise with Viking back in 2020 but Viking cancelled it at the last moment, d/t the pandemic. They were good enough to give us a full refund. Okay, I made it through the entire video and was already impressed, but at the very end you mention that Viking takes care of all or most of the AIRFARE? That's a serious gamechanger if I understand this correctly!

    Is it normal for Viking to book you at one hotel on a pre-cruise excursion and then change the hotel without notifying you? My husband and I are taking the Northern lights cruise in Feb. 2023. I called Viking today to double check on a few last minute questions. While speaking with the representative I was told that the 2 extra days we booked with them at the Blu in Bergen had been changed to the Bergen Bōrs. This was done without our knowledge on a cruise we booked in June 2022. This is our very first Viking Cruise and I am already having second thoughts about the Cruise line after several ports were canceled and we were given 4 extra sea days. Now this change of hotels at the last minute. I am just checking to see if this is an anomaly or if this is standard operating procedures for Viking Ocean.

    Cruising into Venice as pictured here isn't an option anymore. The following is part of a message from Viking: "You may be aware that the Italian government announced in 2021 that all cruise ships, except small boutique ships, would be moved to alternate docking locations, outside central Venice, in order to preserve the Venetian Lagoon, which is a national monument."
    "Going forward, to support Venice in their goal of preserving the lagoon’s environment, all affected 2023 Viking voyages on your itinerary will now dock in Chioggia (Venice) instead of central Venice. Chioggia is approximately a 1½ hour drive south of the Venetian Lagoon, depending on traffic."

  • @happytraveller2122

    I believe they won’t be able to go the Venice. They have stipulated a ship length. Viking are just over it.

    What is meant by access at 60 or 67 days out?

    • @erics607
      @erics607 2 года назад +1

      That's when you can start to book your excursions, spa treatments, or make reservations at one of the two specialty restaurants. So if you book a V1 or V2 (veranda) level room, you are able to start booking reservations 60 days out from when the cruise leaves. If you book a a DV1 -DV6 (deluxe veranda) level room, you are able to start booking those same reservations 67 days out. The higher the level of room you book the earlier you can start booking reservations.

    • @ttp436
      @ttp436 2 года назад +1

      @@erics607 ah thank you very much for responding. So you can pre book before you start cruising? Does things get that busy that you have to book so in advanced?

    • @erics607
      @erics607 2 года назад +1

      @@ttp436 Yes, you can pre book before you start cruising. I'm fairly new to this as my first cruise ever was through Viking 4 years ago, and my dad booked it over the phone. I just helped him book another cruise yesterday online, so I don't really know how other cruise lines operate. The early booking dates are essentially there to help you book an excursion on a certain date or at a certain time, since some of the excursions they do multiples of with how popular they can be. If you want to do a morning walking tour instead of the afternoon one for example, the higher stateroom you purchase allows you to ensure you get the time slot you want. Same goes for the restaurants. If you really want to go to the Chef's Table on the 2nd night of the cruise, but you book a Veranda stateroom, all of the reservations for the 2nd night might be filled. Therefore you may have to book a reservation for the 6th night of the cruise for instance. I used the Chef's Table for this example because the menu items change every 3-4 days, so you may not get the world meal that you wanted. The first 3 days of the cruise they may offer French themed foods, but the 3-4 days after that, the menu may change to Chinese themed. As far as the excursions go, there is a chance that all of the spots for one of their more popular excursions are full by the time you pick excursions. When this happens, they will do their best to put together another group for that excursion, but like I said before, you wouldn't get to pick your time slot.
      I should add that if you go on an 8 day cruise, it can be difficult to reserve a specific date/time for one of the specialty restaurants because everyone wants to eat at them. The Veranda and Deluxe Veranda staterooms get 1 guaranteed reservation at each restaurant. The Penthouse Veranda staterooms get 2 guaranteed reservations at each restaurant, and all of the suites get 3-4 guaranteed reservations. If you're on a 12-15 day cruise however, it spreads out the reservations more. If you end up using both of your reservations, you can still go and ask if they have any openings on another date, but there's no guarantee you will get a 3rd seating in one of the restaurants.

      @@erics607 That sounds wonderful. I would love to do the Viking cruise around Scandinavia. Looks amazing. The Vessel’s look out of this world. I wonder what the gay cruises are like too. Thanks again for all your information. It was very kind of you to take the time.

    By emphasizing the additional perks of the larger rooms, you're leaving me with the impression that if I book the lower categories I'll get leftover dining and excursion options. I suspect this is not exactly true but I believe you did a disservice to people like me who have not been on Viking before.
    Would also have been nice if you made mention of what features you discussed are extra cost.

      When working with an advisor these are all things discussed. We have had many passengers booked in the lowest category who didn't get exactly what they wanted timewise and upgraded the next time.

      Depends on what you personally value. Your advisor will go through all of that with you to assist in making the ideal choice for you.

      I’ve ready a lot of reviews on cruise critic. Many people who booked the lowest category claimed that they didn’t miss anything. They often just turned up at the specialty restaurants on the odd chance that they’d get a seat - and were successful most times.
      Excursions- apparently they guarantee you’ll get on the supplied excursion. Just not necessarily at the time you may have wanted.
      Also it was mentioned that if you did book anything, they took your booking before asking for your cabin number.

    "Complimentary Excursions" I don't think so, the cruise prices are very expensive and the cost of excursions are built into it, just be honest.

    How good is the sound insulation in the staterooms? Royal Caribbean is horrible in that regard - you can always hear music from the disco or neighbors talking or someone watching TV or the crew dragging chairs on the pool deck (wonderful beginning of a day, I'm telling ya! NOT!). How is Viking Cruises about that?

    • @HarrTravel
      @HarrTravel  2 года назад

      This is why we always recommend sandwich decks. But most ships are similar with their sound proofing.

      The soundproofing on the Viking ships is good. We were on deck 5 and did not notice voices or TV noise from adjacent rooms. When announcements were made on the PA in the hallway, I opened our door to hear, as the sounds were muffled in the room.

      You can hear a little bit, but nothing crazy. I was level 4 about midship, and the only thing that annoyed me was when they were lowering the tender boats into the water to take us ashore. Other than that though, I didn't have any issues with it.
