இந்த பதிவில் கேரளாவில் அடர்ந்த காடுகளில் அமைந்துள்ள ஒரு தீவில் வாழும் மலை பண்டாரம் பழங்குடியின மக்கள் வாழும் கிராமத்தை பற்றி பார்க்கலாம்.வெறும் 34 வீடுகள் மட்டுமே உள்ள இந்த கிராமத்திற்கு பெயர் கிடையாது.வீடுகளுக்கு செல்ல மிக பெரிய ஆற்றில் இறங்கி நடந்து செல்ல வேண்டும்.ஆற்றில் தண்ணீர் அதிகம் சென்றால் படகில் செல்ல வேண்டும்.ஆற்றில் வெள்ளம் ஏற்பட்டால் இவர்கள் அந்த காட்டு தீவில் இருந்து வெளியே செல்ல முடியாது,முற்றிலும் தீவாக மாறி விடும்.அடர்ந்த காடுகளில் கிடைக்கும் பொருட்களை சேகரித்து வாழ்க்கை நடத்துகின்றனர்.மிருகங்களுடன் ஒன்றி வாழும் இந்த மக்கள் வெளியுலக தொடர்பு இல்லாமல் வசிக்கின்றனர்.
In this post, we will see about the village of the pandaram tribal people who live on an island located in a dense forest in Kerala.This village with only 34 houses has no name.To get to the houses, you have to walk down a very big river.If there is too much water in the river, you have to go by boat.If the river floods, they cannot move out of that wild island,It will completely become an island.They make a living by collecting the materials available in the dense forests.These people living together with animals live without contact with the outside world.
The Malai Pandaram or otherwise termed as Hill Pandaram is a scheduled tribe. They are settled along the Pamba river, Achan koil river and in Pathanapuram and near Shencotta ranges in Kollam District. Some have migrated now to Srikrishnapuram in the Palakkad District. The reason for migration, according to this group, is that Christians had moved into the Achan Koil area, as a result of which it became difficult for them continue to their own occupations and hence they migrated to Palakkad area. They are mainly distributed in the high range areas of Kollam and Pathanamthitta Districts. The 2011 Census recorded their population as 2,422. In the Travancore region they have a patios referred by others as Pandaram Basha. With others they converse in Malayalam and educated use the Malayalam script for writing. The Malai Pandaram’s economic life is overwhelmingly forest based. The resource is controlled by government. They are landless. Presently, the government have allotted plots of forest land to groups in which they have erected their huts and in the remaining area some individuals engage in cultivation, mainly tapioca. The major traditional occupation is hunting and gathering. The Palakkad branch continue to be engaged in their traditional occupation of making and selling of rudrakshamala, tulasimala, glass beads necklace and bangles. Some of them have traditional knowledge in herbal medicines. The medicinal herbs are collected from forests of Sabarimalai, Irali (Idukki) and Wayanad. The Malai Pandaram follow Hinduism. Satha or Ayyappan is their principal deity. Most of their settlements in Travancore are also located near the Sastha temples like Aryankavu, Achankovil and Sabarimala.The Malai Pandaram in Kerala are a scheduled tribe which means they have low status in Hindu society. They live in the hill regions of Kollam and Pathanathitta districts of Kerala. Others live further east in Tamil Nadu. They speak Malayalam, the language of Kerala.
Hunting and gathering is their work. Their customs are different than nearby tribes. They know how to use herbs as medicines. Unlike most Hindus, they bury the dead. After a death in the family the place where the bereaved person lived is destroyed.
