You may have missed yesterday's video: • Delicious (Jodie) Chic...
Happy Father's Day to you dads (and some of you moms who had to FILL IN when the dad was in absentia!!!) out there!
I used pony beads (you can buy a crapload of them in a container at Walmart, or in individual color packages) for this, but I suppose any plastic beads will do.
Melt the beads at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes in a metal cake pan. Drilled a hole in them and strung them on fishing line for ornaments or a suncatcher.
It does begin to stink after a bit. I put up a Vornado fan to circulate the air and it wasn't bad at all. They harden up and will tip right out of your pan without a problem.
I saw this idea on Pinterest here : doitandhow.com/2012/05/30/too-... Хобби
These came out just lovely Beth and I can totally see maybe using small metal cookie colors as molds so kids could make them into shapes. Since I never use my metal cookie cutters for anything else lol.You always show us the bestest things.
What a neat idea... my nephews are coming over tomorrow night, they will love this! Thanks, Beth! :D
I like the look of the incomplete melt, very pretty.
I like them too. You were brave cooking them in the oven after all the warnings, but think of the different shapes and bumps and humps you could put on them! Very pretty!!
I think if you used a mini muffin pan and carefully place a few of the beads in the center you might have something light weight enough to make earrings. You could paint the back with clear nail polish or use a thin layer of Mod Podge to make it shiny. Also, (haven't tried) you might coat the bottom of the pan with a clear oil to make both sides shiny. As for the sharp edges, try either an emery board and lightly sand them down or use a clicky lighter to warm the edges enough to melt slightly (try not to burn it) and press down with a pop sickle stick. Press from front to back in a rounding motion. Hope that helps everyone.
So creative!
I couldn't find iridescent with sparkles, so I got a bag of solid lighter bright colors. Because of my OCD I had to make sure that I had exactly the same amount of purple versus pink versus yellow, etc all positioned precisely even, and obsessed about making sure that there were no gaps. I put them in the oven at 375 and after 15 minutes. I came back into the house but I didn't smell anything.. until I open the oven door! they still hadn't melted very much. I put them in for 5 more minutes and then I took them out even though they still look about the same: very beautiful
I saw these the other day & pinned it to make, but it's nice to see someone else do it first. Love them!! I want to make a large one with a few smaller ones & turn them into a windchime using copper pipes.
Thanks!
Pam
Those came out very pretty. I'm sure they will be even pretty when sun shines through.
These are so pretty! They would be nice strung together in descending sizes, maybe three to a string? Definitely will have to try this!
WOOOHOOO .... that is such an awesome idea!!!! NOW I know what to do with all of my leftover clear plastic beads!!!! I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work too. : ) thanks Beth!
Another will do! Perfect project for a blah weather day! Thanks Beth, you rock!
Cute idea. Like the Christmas ornament idea.
So pretty! I would definitely do this one day with all the kitchen windows open, haha! Too neat!
They're so pretty & would make cool looking drinks coasters
+let me help you out with this one If you ever recycle you can make your own out of tranparent pop bottles just cut them up into what ever shapes you want and then cook them the same way If you all are getting smoke then you are cooking to hot just back off the heat a bit and run them longer If you dont need them translucent you can also use HDPE #2 or #4 plastics the same way as they come in many colors pop bottle caps water bottle caps milk jugs exct. thes only need heated to 185 or so
I saw this on pintrust and was thinking it was a great idea. So glad you showed us.
pretty :)
when was a little e we did this as a craft project. since i went to a tiny school my teacher had to take our 'creations' home to cook. obviously none of them turned out the way we planed because of the jostling on the way to her car & the drive... but we all were happy to see them the next day. my defunct lady bug was the best one, imho ;) man teachers are so under paid!
xoexo
Very cool idea!! I like the bumpy ones! Like you said...character!!
I think they came out beautiful!!
I was thinking the same thing. Think I'll use a mini muffin pan for smaller discs. Even better would be if I can find/make something for melting different shapes.
What a cute ornament! I'll definitely be trying this one out for loop bags and Ben my dad's b-day present. Wish me luck! (:
This is an awesome idea. I wonder if it could be done on a flat surface pan covered with wax paper...that way we can make designs of flowers, or candy canes, or snowmen, et cetera, et cetera. HAHAHA. That was a total King and I moment there.
Super duper cute! Nw I know what to do with all my extra ponies from crafts!!! Thank you Beth!
Way cool...I might try this by making an outer form with several layers of aluminum foil folded up or use cookie cutters as forms ...thanks for the this video and inspiration!
I made some today I also made the mini ones with a mini cupcake pan it came out great I like how yrs came out like a 3d effect with bubbles in them cool I used the round beads the star beads and the pony beads like you used awesome job
Very pretty Beth! I'm gonna have to try this with the kiddos!
This is tooooo freakkkkkkkkking cool Beth! OMG Beth ... I have so many projects from you that I've bought all the necessary supplies for and they are all sitting here waiting for me to get started! lolol oxoxo Care
That's pretty darn cool! Wow, they are pretty!
if you cook them a bit longer you can get them to even out to a smooth surface
Also think about reusein g old recycled plastics as thats what the pony beads are made from PET If you dont need translusent You can use HDPE recycled plastics which have a lower melting point (250 degrees Fahrenheit) and dont give off fumes at all IF you have an old toaster oven you can work with these to make any shape you might want its realy cool Enjoy
Yay I did it and they turned out beautiful. Great for gifts. Thanks
Lynn Wilkerson what did you get for Christmas
AS ALWAYS LOVE YOUR CRAFTING IDEAS, MY KIDS LOVED THE FLOWER IN THE SOAP DISPENSER THE BEST !!! REMEMBER THAT ONE? anne
So pretty you are so creative... Thank you for sharing this with all of us:)
Linda
I seen this idea on Pinterest and I was always wondering how they really would come out. I think I'm going to try them after all with slightly more beads. Thanks sooooo much!
Coool... I sure am going through a stage of loving sparkly purtee things. :)
cute idea
This is so cool! I am SO going to try this!
Love this! Going to get some beads to do with my Grand Children. I will have them play outside when they are Baking! Thanks for Sharing! Enjoy all of your Video's! :0)
In a bigger mold do you think they would make a good coaster for your tables? I really like these. Maybe string them all together at different lengths on a dowel for a kids room in the corner for a mobile. I think I am going to try this. I know my granddaughters would love them on a painted dowel.. Good idea. Thanks
Now I wonder if you get some heavy duty tin foil or something like that and make a snowflake form out of that, then melt the beads I bet that would look really pretty :) Thanks for the idea Beth!
Thank Goddess! A use for all those beads I have taking up space in the craft area. I will work on this tomorrow.
Did the pan look OK? Did is stay stinky and toxic?
i loooooooove colorful things, kid! and colors in a muffin tin makes me squuuueal!
What a neat idea!!! I just ordered my very first set of seed beads to add to my crocheted shawl, so I am excited about delving into beads.. this I WILL try. I would love to see about making them and making them into a wind chime... think that will work? :)
Do this in a fairly inexpensive toaster over outside. Also I wonder if using a silicone mold that comes in shapes would make cool ornaments. Like I have one in the shape of a mouse or a snow flake. Better put the beads into cookie cutter molds.
Loving the new intro;) and this is awesome!
Great instructions.
I love the intro. and I love this idea
Cute idea!!!!
Very cool!!
that is so freakin cool!! and I ahve a CRAP LOAD of these!1 Thanks for the idea!
This is a very cool project or experiment
Oh pretty!
They are beautiful though just open a window .thanks 4 sharing this bomb idea! Bless u!!
This is a really cute idea. :) Something to add a little creativity to a boring room. xD
Super cute!
Very nice! I really like those:)
I liked the look of them but how did it do when you drilled the hole. I suspect they would be brittle and break.
I really like this new intro :)
If you slow the melting prosecc you could use a deep dish bowl and make a light shade Tiffany Style
they look like they'd make great coasters
I was thinking this would be cool to do with a Christmas tree pan....tho it would be pretty big for a suncatcher I guess.
loooove them. no longer baking, like them as is. yesssss
i love this idea
Can you do a video on making crafts for cats since you did mention your kitty in this video :) Cat toys, cat beds, cat collars etc. I would love that!
its very pretty i like it
That so cool hope I can do this with the kids soon
Wow
OK I tried it with the cooky cutter & I think I will have to spay it with non stick stuff
They are cute =D
cool what a neat idea might have to try this so pretty
i really like this idea. going to try it.
could you use them as cup coasters? i think that would be a really good idea like make them bigger :) i think i might try this and put initials in them (or try to haha) thanks its a great idea :)
I love your intro and crafting beautiful ❤💗😃😄😍👏💐
I love the intro! :) And I enjoyed the video, what a great idea!
will it work if you use bold bead than clear? i dont have any see through beads....
I am very skeptical about the fumes: aren't they toxic and don't they stick in the oven?
if you glue felt to the bottom and use a slightly bigger muffin pan they could be used as glass holders
You think they could be swirled with a sick whilst they are molten, or do you think that would not work?
That is awesome
I really like this ..but yeah I worry about the smell as my daughter and I are very allergic to alot of scents
This sure a cool idea
they are beautiful, they look like seaglass
the totally insufficient one is my fave :)
They could also be coasters!
i thout that to
This is Really cool, i wanna do this with my nieces i love watching your videos =)
awsome
Oo theese are cool!
This is so pretty. Did it do any harm to the pan??
Sorry thought of something else, would you use a pan that youre not going to bake in?
it looks like it would be cool to use as a coaster lol
oh wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) i love them, you gave me another great idea, make a pan full.and hang it on your window, God Bless you for sharing. January 12th, 2013
Will the beads stain the pans?
could you use a dining plate and make a big one like a coaster?
those are pretty :D
neat, little bigger they would make nice coasters.
what is Irene's video called?
Those pony beads are at walmart or a second hand resale
interesting... this was pretty cool. very pretty
cool
What a great idea! do you think they would work as coasters too? Or too bumpy?
would make a nice xmas ornament project with glitter (:
can it be from all beads?
