Xane Myers developer #2: nah we need an EXTREME ska soundtrack developer #1: how can we do that developer #2: we add all the sounds that have ever been heard by humans since they first walked the earth
Believe it or not, but you can actually find the soundtrack to this game on Bandcamp. The band that did most of the music in the game is a terrible garage rock band called pferd. They actually refer to themselves as "comedy" music, but I consider it "Oh my God! Why did I have to search for this shit to see if it actually existed!? I wish I was dead!" music.
Your gangsta tripping, they are fucking great! It’s like if Jesus lizard, dk and primus had a week long coke-binge and then never spoke to each other again
I must say, looking at it, skateboard physics must be quite a complex thing to pull off in a game, the way they use inertia to defy gravity briefly to achieve tricks. It must take some very clever programming. But this is terrible, they can't even get the proportions right, look at how huge the stairs and benches are compared to your character. Speaking of which, I've got a unfinished press copy of the original Tony Hawk's somewhere, literally unfinished, like some levels are only half complete, so you'd suddenly fall off into the abyss. 'll have to dig it out and do a video on it someday.
"That's why I was a little taken aback to find that Boards & Blades actually manages to deliver a fair dose of fun - though not necessarily for the long run, and not necessarily for everyone. But at least it works as it should" - GameSpot 5.5/10
What other languages has this been covered in, anyways? Heck, in fact, I am wondering: what if this is what the French or the Spanish talk about in the same way us English speakers talk about Superman 64?
I think I used to own Extreme Paint Brawl. The game was impossible to play. The texture graphics and frame rate glitched up so much, it was bound to give someone a seizure.
They were both published by Activision, which famously rushed tony hawk 5 out the door to make a bit more money on the license. I'm shocked this isn't even a joke lol
Please help me! After watching this video, whenever I walk up a flight of stairs or steep uphill I get launched up in the air at 50 mph once I reach the top! Pretty sure that ain't supposed to happen.
Same here. I remember the controls being confusing but eventually got the hang of. I also remember the weird running thing, but honestly that was one of the most fun aspects of the game.
7:20 - THEBB? (Tony Hawk’s Extreme Boards and Blades) A little late to the party on this one...I chuckled when I noticed the lanky gentleman half out of frame (and focus for that matter) is Tony Hawk. A picture of the Birdman mid varial-flip with the Activision logo plastered next to him had me at THPS before I realized this isn’t that. I feel like the very image they cut him out of is used on one of the real tony hawk pro skater box arts somewhere...that could just be how synonyms Hawk and Activision have become to me.
That ending......PRICELESS. You NEED to start off the Boards and Blades 2 review with "O Fortuna" just to prepare the viewers for the sheer horror they will face....heh heh heh. Oh, and the five dislikes are probably from former Head Games employees.
Man. I remember my grandma buying me this game at KB Toys when I was a child. I was so excited to visit her once a weekend because she would buy me some cheap PC video game to play on her cheap PC. This was one of the games, along with Total Annihilation. It's nice to load these games up time to time to take a trip back. I miss and love you grandma.
I love how when the guy falls off his board he just curls up like. "...Can you please turn the game off now...it hurts for you to play..but I LIVE in this world....end my pain..."
I unfortunately had to experience the horror of this game during christmas day... Some of my family must have been playing a prank on me. To make it worse, it was a double pack with this and Extreme paintbrawl. Christmas is forever scarred! :'(. One interesting thing to note was my version didn't have the Mountain Dew sponsorship, though it might be because mine was a UK copy?
Clint, you found the holy grail of pure crabness. Maybe you beat AVGN's Big Rigs with this Satan's creation. AND THERE IS A SEQUEL?!? WFT?!? Why, Jesus, why? (But show it, please) ;-)
Great review and you have to the next too.. By The way was looking at the background and I saw a game called Assassin(0.22) have you ever reviewed that one?? I remember playing it back in the day..
After or before reviewing boards and blades 2, can you do a review of the game Interstate 76. I saw you had it installed on one of your computers a few reviews back.
Fun Fact: this game came out on my fifth birthday. That year I got a PS1 game called "street sk8er" (yes the 8 is suppose to be there). It was a simple skating game with some ska tunes in the soundtrack. While one could easily argue the game aged poorly, you can at least still have a little fun with it today....more so than this game, which you could never have fun with.
Another great video. You remind me a lot of an old friend so it makes it doubly entertaining to watch. Out of curiosity will you be reviewing banished? It definitely looks your style.
Clint, I've watched many of your reviews, and I have to say... I don't think I've ever heard you just unleash so much hate on a game. Normally you at least give even a tiny bit of credit for something, but this. Wow. I didn't know you had it in you!
I can think of one redeeming feature of this game, and that is without it we would never have got this review. You are a funny guy Clint, have you ever done any stand up or script writing, as you have a real gift, some of your analogies are great.

They gave it a ludicrous 5.5 out of 10 with gems such as "It actually manages to deliver a fair dose of fun - though not necessarily for the long run, and not necessarily for everyone" and "At least it works as it should, a claim that few other Head Games titles can make." I'm really curious what the sequel is like, but since I'm having trouble finding out about this even on wikipedia, I'd be really glad if you could do the review. May God have mercy upon your soul if you decide to do it.
In the middle of your review I thought "I rather play the latest Tony Hawk games than that!" and near the end you said it yourself. :D But seriously, is there anyone who actually likes the "Extreme" games?
I want the "Practice Mode" voice and "Free ride, baby" voice from the sequel as soundbites to use as phone ringtones and for video. I could have so much from with that!
Les Claypool and The Melvins getting together and covering Anthrax songs while tweaking on meth would probably end up with a better soundtrack. Les Claypool actually has a background in thrash metal. It's not very well known that he played bass in a thrash band called Dark Angel before starting Primus.
I didn't expect you to mention The Melvins. Great band. The "ska" soundtrack, on the other hand... I found their full album that's featured in the "game." Listen to this and weep. pferd1.bandcamp.com/album/every-now-and-then-you-put-a-bullet-through-your-mind
Honestly, as soon as I saw "Ska Soundtrack" on the case (Or aka "White Reggae" ) I would've bailed. But watching this video is righteously hilarious. This is like T. Hawk's Pro Skater for 12-yr olds who still wear Pull-Ups. And for showing this travesty to the world, we thank you! :)

Comedy music? That sounds like a bad excuse: "It's comedy, it's supposed to sound bad." Yeah right.
Mr. Futago and what's funnier is most comedy bands produce actual good music! just look at lonely island or ninja sex party.
Your gangsta tripping, they are fucking great! It’s like if Jesus lizard, dk and primus had a week long coke-binge and then never spoke to each other again
@@yenee94 Don't forget Tower of Fire
So its not Ska, LIES!!!!!
This game would fit right in on Steam Greenlight.
Alex Czarnecki Nah. It too good for greenlight.
And compared to the trash from steam direct it's a masterpiece.
Glad that in the years since you wrote this that the standards have lowered
"Exclusively fueled by Powerbar."
...despite also being fueled by Mountain Dew and Runnin Tough...
The writing in the back cover is so bad, that "fueled" looks like "fucked"...
...but who fucked the game was Silverfish...

Yo Larry, my man, how's that Tony Hawk video coming along?
Larry...?
LARRY
Why did LGR delete its reply to Larry's comment? What was its content? The people must know!
"That's why I was a little taken aback to find that Boards & Blades actually manages to deliver a fair dose of fun - though not necessarily for the long run, and not necessarily for everyone. But at least it works as it should"
- GameSpot 5.5/10
My jaw dropped when I read that when researching this game. Just... how? Were they even playing the same game?
I get the sneaking suspicion that GameSpot was taking bribes from Head Games.
@@isalt5 I mean if you're right and they did they still gave the 'game' a 5.5, which means even the biggest bribe can't get it to at least a six!
In fairness, this game was made before Tony Hawk set the standard. They probably didn’t know it could get far better than this.
Head Games is gonna be your LJN, isn't it?
Was searching for some avgn reference
Why africa ?
Fun Fact: This is the only English speaking channel that covered this game.
I don't know why but I burst out laughing upon reading that fact.

I've never heard LGR so pissed off in one episode...
that's why I keep wishing that LGR will review more awful games for fun videos like this.
Nearly AVGN, just needed a thousand more curses and diarrhoea references.

I'd listen to that.

Hello, Nate.
***** Hi :)
Hi Nate
It would be cool to see LGR Review that.
Yo Nate !
Let me get this right. Activision, published both this and the Tony Hawk series? WHAT!!??
_"Mountain Dew presents..."_ < this alone made me laugh.
Or Mountian Dew according to who made the back cover.
This game and Mountain Dew have much in common...
it's quite telling when only THPS5 also had Mountain Dew ads ^^
Your practice mode running gag will never get old.
8 years on and it's still not old!
I didn't know theses guys made Tony Hawk 5?! XD
They were both published by Activision, which famously rushed tony hawk 5 out the door to make a bit more money on the license. I'm shocked this isn't even a joke lol
Pro Skater 5 is a bit meh. If you want some true classics, try the 1st and 2nd.
Please help me!

Pretty sure that ain't supposed to happen.
I don't remember any of those issues when I played this as a kid. I thought the game was reasonably passable. I may not have been a smart kid.
Same here. I remember the controls being confusing but eventually got the hang of. I also remember the weird running thing, but honestly that was one of the most fun aspects of the game.
Also, I love responding to 8yr old youtube comments.
It sounds like they misspelled Skat music.
I had to watch this again for various reasons and yknow what? I think they *actually* misspelled skat music XD
Clearly these guys know what TRUE ska is. This whole time I've been lied to. Curse you, Reel Big Fish.
but none of that was ska
Gibs Exactly.
+Gibs Whilst I quite liked what I heard in LGR's review (I enjoy sloppy and somewhat bonkers punk music) I concur that it certainly _isn't_ ska music.
I do not even know what "ska" is.
A mixture of rap, rock, and reggae. Like Sublime.
Punk with trumpets, being reductive.
"Hitting rock bottom of games released on shelves."
I'm suddenly tempted to ask you to do Limbo of the Lost. It is somehow EVEN WORSE than this.

'original' 'Ska'
They meant _skate_ music, but they gave up on writing the word skate halfway through.
Well in here at least collision detection works, sometimes, unlike Big Rigs
So your going to do a review on the sequel?

Boards and Blades: Get off the board and accelerate to infinity.
Do you still have only the disk to Extreme Rockclimbing?
