    My dad used to own one and boy did the engine like to rev, it was pure music to my little ears, sadly he sold it for a more modern car but it'll always have a place in my heart, it's definitely one of my dream cars and hopefully I'll be my first car

    Back in 1985 I had the pleasure of driving a 128 from Texas to the border of Honduras and Nicaragua. It was such a pleasure to drive this car! The only mishap was that we lost the muffler on a dirt road in Guatemala, but it was promptly fixed in the next town. I loved the sound of the engine, and especially the handling in the mountain roads. I personally rebuilt this car’s engine before the trip and was at awe regarding its design Uc and engineering. It had a simple approach to many modern problems. For instance, you could not lock yourself out of it because you had to lock it with the key; on long trips you could set the speed control - a simple hand throttle cable. It was very easy to work on it and the quality of the engine manufacture was evident in the tight precision with which parts were built and fit together. The engine could reach such high rpm’s; that’s how it got so much power for such a small engine. You could park it anywhere, and the interior was quite comfortable for adult passengers. A great car!

    Great video, my first car was a 128 and I love them. I have had FIAT's all my life and now that I saw your video I want a 128 again 😊.look forward to more videos

    Thanks so much for this video! My first two cars were 128 in the eighties. And since 2015 I have one again - not as a daily driver, because I am a little bit concerned about rust, but except from that it could easily be one. It's still an up-to-date car and does not feel old at all. So impressing!

    I never owned a saloon but had both the 128 coupe and the 128 3p Berlinetta, they were great fun to drive. What I'd do to own either now!

    oh wow! the sound of the car give it a sort of "personality"! I really really love this second season of DDR, you put so much energy and passion in every of your videos! this is so cool! Where do you find time to make these awesome montages?! XD (thank you for mentioning me at the end, it's a very nice attention and I truly appreciate it :D)

      Cars are very much inspiring to me. The passion I have is what also keeps me going about making this videos, since the video editing is something that, although I enjoy very much, it can be annoying most of the times and energy draining. Time is very limited, that's why I had to stop making reviews for nearly 3 months. Hopefully I will be able to get back to my schedule of one review per week and some more addtional videos :-) I love your music and I do believe your deserve much more attention, so it's my pleasure to kind of have you on my reviews :-D

      Daily Driver Reviews I understand at 100% sometimes it's better to take a break! I believe you when you say that time is limited, but still, I'm amazed of what you do! Well don't hesitate to take as much music as you want, I'm happy that someone uses them for an artistic/creative work :D

    In the seventies and eighties you can hardly find cars other than 128 on the Egyptian roads.
    Fiat used to have an assembling line in Cairo since the sixties.
    Great cars.

    I think it's an awesome car as a daily driver, and the fact that it runs and looks so good after all these years and miles shows how good and well made it is. I can also see that the car is very well mantained in the exterior and in the interior.

      It's currently on the third generation of the same family :-) While it's not perfect, it shows that you can keep a car going if you dedicate the appropriate time to it. Although I didn't mention it in the video, the owner reports a fuel consumption well over 40 miles per galon.

      I completely forgot you also use the metric system :-P About 6-7 litres per 100 km

    I had one in the 80's. I loved it! My wife couldn’t drive it so I reluctantly sold it. It loved to be on the open road as it clogged up in town. Mine was white and had rust. I would love to get another one or the 128 Sport or an 850 Coupe which I also had but sadly broke down every week...

    I drove my 1971 128's 1,116cc SOHC short stroke four (80mm bore, 55mm stroke) for nearly 200,000 miles over 11 years (195,000). This unassuming boxy 2door sedan felt like a sure-footed puma cat on a winding road. Even if the 145-13 tires started sliding, it was so balanced, you could easily slide all four wheels. Its 4-speeds had the revvy motor spinning at nearly 3,500 rpm at just 60mph, but it loved to rev (just make sure you changed the oil regularly). Low CG, lightweight, suspension aimed for cornering, well balanced. - now wonder it was a great rally car. Sure like most Fiats of that era, it earned its "Fix It Agan Tony" nickname, but just invest in a Haynes shop manual, and you can be the Tony (engine block weighed only 198lbs and trans was only 75 lbs!! (I just put the block in the trunk of another car to get it bored out.) Like working on a toy. Tiny on outside, but tons of space on inside. When it ran, it was always a joy and adventure. With a pipe its short stroke motor sounded like a Honda four racer (a sound that can't be replicated by any other production car (with their undersquare engines.). It was all about the fun of driving. Really miss it even decades later...

    My dad inherited one from our cousin in 1980 our us a us model 1975 2dr couple 1300. The windshield was damaged badly in in 1983 and we in the us couldn't get one without the guarantee it wouldn't be damaged from Italy. 1983 was right after they pulled out of us market the first time. So it sat in our yard until 1991 when they junked it. We started it one last time and a fresh fuel change and plugs and it ran great still after sitting for 8 years. There were great cars

    i hat same car in 1990 it was my first car and i had so much fun in that and it could easly keep up with the others car at that time, i remember that i put a double kaburator and then it ran so fast that everybody thougt is was a bmw...thanks for the video it brings so god memories .

    Our family bought a Fix It Again Tony 128 to replace their AMC Gremlin. The one big breakdown we recall the most was around the time of the 1980 Winter Olympic - at least it had the common courtesy to fail just down the road from the one big place that serviced foreign cars in our area. Got squished by a run-in with a tree (they never hit a car except in self-defense) a couple years later.

    mate had a couple of these in the 80's. Real gem of a car - sporty roomy cheap - sadly appallingly prone to rust and random electrics

      Thank you for the comment. If you plan to keep one of these you really have to do a good metal treatment and re-work all the electrics.

      Yes mine to, needed new alternator at only 23,000 miles.
      Also regularly leaking brake cylinders. Boot leaked water into it from new. Head light blew when only 3 months old, not a spare in Australia to replace, the dealer took a new one out of another new car they were going to sell, until they could get another new light for it.

    128 is an amazing machine but Dante Giacosa designed the unequal half-shafts, rack and pinion steering, strut front end, and side by side engine/transaxle years earlier for the 1964 Autobianchi Primula. Fiat (which owned Autobianchi) didn't want to gamble with this new untested and unproven tech on a cash cow mainstream car such as the 128 so they tried it in the small volume Primula first where it proved to be a resounding success. Every FWD since then (that uses a transverse setup--which is 99% of them) uses this same design whereas the Minis over/under shared engine/gearbox oil design was only used in one other car--the transverse V12 in thr early Lamborghini Miuras--then it was forgotten to history. In fact, the later Miura SV adopted the side by side engine/trans with seperate engine oil and gearbox sumps because of earlier issues with contaminated engine oil.

    Chris Reeve owned a 128 right before he became Superman...It was ragged, according to him. Why? His 128 was broken into various times until he finally drove the thing without s radio, which was constantly ripped off, since he would street park making it a target for thieves. It got him around, though. This was when he lived in NYC, doing soaps and whatever to survive. True story! Peace...♐

    Thankyou for the great video. Was my first new car in 1970.
    So much fun to drive, way ahead in feature 's, even had intermittent wipers.
    But sadly in Australia no parts backup , and quality control very poor compared to the 1960's fiat's.
    Also very rough conversion to right hand drive, use to snap clutch Cable's, to many bends to go across to the right hand side.
    But have to say what a car to drive, and that incredible engine, beautiful sound and power.
    Fiat had great reputation I'm Australia because of the early sixties models, such as the 1500 . But soon lost it in the seventies.

      Ah indeed... those were the days! The clutch cable usually broke because it was serving as the starter motor negative connection ;) there was supposed to be a braided earthing strap attached to the gearbox but it was often broken or missing. The current passing through the cable contributed to its deterioration. I changed my first clutch cable on our 128 saloon at the age of 11 when it broke as my Mum was picking me up from school... LOL

      @@alexshepherd thanks for that, that's amazing I never knew it was such a simple reason for clutch cable breakage.
      Yes fiat did loose the plot in the 1970's, just a little more care, and they would have been still on top of the game. Even as I said you couldn't even get parts. For example one of my car head lights blew, only a matter of months from new, and the dealer I bought it from took a light from a new 128 on the show room floor, and put mine in it until they could replace it.

    I learned to drive on my mother's green 1974 4-door. It was so unreliable that my mother always parked on a slope so that it could be roll started. The handling was fantastic, but the gearshift was very imprecise. It felt like you were moving a stick through a bucket of porridge.

    I just love little fiats !
    I recently drove this one Fiat 1100 which had an engine swap
    It was running a Suzuki Samurai 1.3L Engine and Gearbox making like 75 Bhp
    Rear wheel drive, with a roll cage and it was also lowered !
    Im trying to get my hands on it again so i can make a video on it
    But hey !
    This video was amazing !
    Ive seen one of these fiats in person and they look the same moving backwards as they do moving forwards !! 😂 Lovely little cars !

      Thank you ! Ahahahah you're right, the body shape makes it look that way! Do you believe the new format and production are better than Season 1? There is always something about old FIAT's... The way they look, so minimalist, but full of character and passion! I am looking forward to see that Millecento! I know a guy with one that is thoroughly and meticulously restored to standard and those suicide doors are hilarious! I love the Morris Mini and it was an amazing landmark in car history, but I believe the FIAT 128 was the car that really cemented the front engine, fwd compact, at least in Europe. This is still a very small car and even today it sits 4 people in great comfort, plus it has a big cargo area and the engine is very capable. And I love the fact you have ash trays in the front and two on each side for the rear passengers... Everyone smoked back in the day ahahaha

      It's fantastic! I am not sure about the exact reasons why it had to be removed, but these cars didn't come with turbo as standard and in Portugal if something isn't factory standard it's very hard to register and make it "legal" :-/

    My very first car was a Fiat 128, actually the 1977 model with square headlights. Kept it forward many years untill it leterally fell apart under me....

    Shame that the 2nd gear is out of commission :p
    Kinda was anti climatic when you entered the 3rd

      Thanks for the comment! It will get even better :-D It will be restomodded with the 1.2 engine and 5 speed gearbox from a Punto, converted to carburetors of course. I will review it again after that is done :-)

    I owned a 128, the transmission literally fell out. The brakes were dodgy, sometimes working and then suddenly failing for no discernable reason. It was the sort of car that you would only give to someone you truly hated.

    Bad handling, shoddy electrics and rotten steel. The only good thing was Lampredis engine, my god can they rev!

      Thanks for your comment. This car has more than half a million kilometers, so it's not as bad as you say. The handling is great if you consider it was released in 1969. Shoddy electrics? Really? It never caught fire, unlike a great deal of modern cars. There are always ways to preserve and improve the bodywork and paint. Again, this car has been in the same family for more than 40 years.

      Daily Driver Reviews You must keep it in a dry country, they dont last 10 years in the UK.
      Handling is not a patch on the Alfa Sud. And no, the electrics dont catch fire, they just stop working. Mind you they were simple.

      Even an E90 Corolla doesn't last long in the UK :-P What I meant is the 128 handles well considering it's age and that it's the first front wheel drive car with unequal drive shafts. The electrics fail like in any other car that is from before the fall of the Iron Curtain ahaha

      this car was produced in 1969, Golf came 10 years later and it was much more expensive but the Fiat had much better engine
