    Ahhhhh....so confused! Love the rich, warm tones of the cedar but the spruce rings out like a bell with superior definition and complexity....Tavi is an awesome guitarist.

    The Cedar seems to have a melancholy natural flavour to the title Lament theme. Both are superb guitars, It really comes to the piece being performed as so Masterfully demonstrated by Tavi Jinariu.

    both are great. for slower contrmplative tempo i like cedar. for agressive faster play i think spruce for note clarity and definition. i like them both.

    It's real simple
    SPRUCE. Is a more open sound more high-end more treble.. when you have more high-end you can hear more string noise in buzzing on the frets.
    CEDAR is warmer, richer, and Fuller. You can hear the entire guitar when you play cedar!!!!
    In general people who like lead guitar would prefer the cedar.. individual note playing..
    That's why most classical guitar players almost always pick cedar..
    As a guitar luthier I've played them all with 30 years of experience..
    My favorite is cedar..
    I have a cedar seagull acoustic that I wouldn't part with for anything. Only $500 I just gave it a jumbo fret job.. like I do with all my guitars..
    I've had them all here$6,000 Taylor acoustics, Martin, fender, etc... Boutique acoustic..
    I WOULD PUT MY SEAGULL UP AGAINST ANY OF THEM
    It's not how much money you spend for a guitar.. it's how it's built and how the wood is used..
    Martin's in Taylors are excellent guitars but you're definitely adding a couple of thousand dollars or more just because of the name.. of course you have expensive things that people get that is not needed. When it comes to sound, like binding, the finish which can actually hurt the sound of the top, beautiful inlays, customizations in
    Decorations..
    Seagull was very intelligent they use of such a light light finish on the solid top which makes it vulnerable but makes it vibrate more and sound better..
    WHEN IT COMES TO ACOUSTIC GUITAR YOU MUST OBVIOUSLY KNOW MOST OF THE SOUND COMES FROM THE TOP.. IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING YOU CAN GET A CHEAP GUITAR SOUNDING LIKE THE MOST EXPENSIVE GUITARS IN THE WORLD WHEN IT COMES TO ACOUSTICS..

      muzikmon2267 I’m sorry but cedar top does not make a fuller sound of guitar than spruce top, it is only warmer sound and more close sound almost muddy sound (especially on cheaper guitars) but in this particular guitar, spruce and cedar are excellent sounding, i would choose spruce any time of any guitar

    Cedar sounds very smooth and dark almost like a mahogany steel string sounds like this smoothness is very pleasing, with a bit of natural compression and all, quite possibly amazing for recording without having to equalize much at all. And Spruce have brighter louder trebles and more bass response with a clear sound overall, I feel like it's amazing for fast impactful pieces where you have crazy bass lines or have to dig in on the trebles and more separation feels like a good idea. It's gets to the point that you should have both really haha, it's hard to choose.

    The Cordoba guitars I’ve tried, have the sweetest sounding and brightest treble sound I’ve ever come across on factory made classicals. The higher one plays, the richer they get.
    Not just as great on the bass side of things, but still good.

    As what they always say, the spruce indeed sounded bright like smiling and the cedar has like a gloomy effect, not negatively though, rather it stirs up a mellow like emotion. Spruce has a more articulate notes but seems the source is quite shallow. The cedar though has more complex overtones, is like hearing each note cries, and its source seems very deep. Bottom line: the guitar will fit you depending on the type of music you play. I like jazz, so I’ll pick the spruce.

    Spruce: clear, distinct, neutered, almost lifeless, excellent harmonics. It's like sound in a sterilized room
    Cedar: warmer, more life to the overall sound, but not the clarity of spruce. It's like sound sitting under a tree among rolling hills.

    • @DougHinVA
      @DougHinVA 7 лет назад +5

      you are wrong to equate spruce tops with 'lifeless and sterilized or neutered''. You would notice what top players use and it is generally a spruce top guitar. Spruce opens up over time and cedar does much less so. Take your preference, but spruce is not inferior top wood to cedar.

    • @mouselim72
      @mouselim72 6 лет назад +3

      Doug H is right - spruce isn't almost lifeless or neutered as you put it. It has openness and excellent sustain with good bass and high treble. However, cedar has more warmth, sound decay is more abrupt thus giving it more clarity in each note. Each type of wood as top has it own voice and excel in its own genre of music (not to say that the other wood will not) and the mood it tries to portray.

    both are excellent guitars with great tone but the player is the one who delivers emotions guitar is just an instrument. If you want more attack and slightly brighter tone take spruce and if you want slightly more sustain and warmer darker tone take cedar that is personal preference. I like flamenco so I have a spruce top guitar but also the sound of cedar top have more impact on the soul so I have a cedar top guitar too :) greetings for you all

  • @josejcastaneda5826
    @josejcastaneda5826 3 года назад

    I suppose, it comes down to preference. Do you want a brighter, livelier tone or a darker, richer tone? Word of advice. You better watch out with the Córdoba guitars. Their entry level guitars are having all kinds of problems. It happened to me with a C3 guitar. The finish and the wood just popped out around the rosette and at the edge of the lower bout. I don’t think that happens with their more expensive guitars.

  • @marklove6580

    Cedar is chocolate. Spruce vanilla. Vanilla is more refined and subtle. Chocolate can get a bit muddled and too dark. I recently bought a used c12 spruce. No regrets.

  • @harponercam

    Cedar is a little more mellow as far as my tastes, yet I hear little difference ever between rosewood and mahogany and find mahogany more striking visually. Interesting stand he has- does that go to the floor or around his waist I wonder? much like a violin shoulder rest....

    • @harponercam
      @harponercam 7 лет назад

      Is that wood binding? Looks great, I have that on a Manuel Rodriguez Cedar top, but the neck set is faulty after only two years and the action getting high. Gonna stay with truss rods from now on. Very nice Rosette here too. Nice guitar that looks and sounds great and played so skillfully here. BRAVO!

      The stand is a classical guitar support. It suctions onto the guitar and rests across his thigh. It's meant to keep the guitar in place - freeing his hands to focus on the art.

    • @regondi

      sure small man is great if you've got $12,000 dollars and six years to wait. But, not everyone likes small man guitars. Personally I'm not a fan of lattice braced guitars so to each their own. These Cordoba guitars are top notch. I've played a lot of them in ensemble setting and solo both in the practice room and on the concert stage. They keep up with the best of them. I took a Cordoba C12 with me for my tour of England in both 2018 and 2019 and they filled the concert halls with sound.
