Good evening, everyone. It has been a while since my last RUclips upload and I basically took a break from all social media since August 2019. The truth is: I was having health issues and therefore I couldn't work on any piano covers for months.
But fortunately, I have recovered and I started to practice the piano regularly again since last week.
Due to the long pause, I almost forgot how to arrange piano music. Therefore I started from the scratch: I began practicing classical piano pieces again from the baroque to the late romantic era, in order to "get my feeling for piano music back", as well as trying to recover my dexterity of both of my hands.
The result is this classical-style arrangement of the Opening song from the Fall 2017 Anime Series "Mahoutsukai no Yome." (魔法使いの嫁 or The Ancient Magus' Bride)
I am particularly fond of Chopin's piano compositions and you can clearly hear his influence in this particular piano arrangement. Chromatic runs, "fake notes in scales", utilizing double notes in fast runs, and so on.
My biggest challenge was that Key change from E minor to Eb minor after the 1st chorus (01:42 - 02:00). I don't really like key changes without any transitions and therefore I created an alternative cadenza from E minor to Eb minor within 8 bars.
Since the original song abruptly ends around 04:52, I decided to "complete" the melody phrase by adding a new Coda at the end.
The Coda contains musical elements from both the chorus and the bridge (03:36 - 03:57), in order to deliver a concluding finale.
Unlike my usual "original endings", this coda turned out unusually pessimistic. Perhaps... because of my experience in the last month.
I just want to say, I am still thankful, that I can continue playing the piano and I hope I can continue doing this as long as I can.

I will experiment a little bit in the next few weeks with some arrangement structures. Currently I am thinking of doing "lyrical and slow" - types of arrangements. But well, I can never know how the next piece is turning out.

@@stagosaurus3181 Thanks, auditions are stressful though man, I learned piano through ear training for the first two years and then got a teacher. Two years of classical experience really is not enough to prepare myself for the insane stuff I need to play for auditions, but grinding it out over hours and hours of practice is all I can really do. Wish me luck, it'll be so worth it in the end.
Hey it's totally the same for me! I discovered the Fubuki cover 4 years ago and started playing shortly after. It's like Animenz has single-handedly spawned a new generation of rookies haha. All the best and good luck with your auditions!

If you think it's that simple to just pick up an instrument AND start arranging music again after such a long time, you're a moron and you have no right to say anything on this matter. The fact that you're insulting people for admiring his talent and hard work just shows how immature you are, and that in turn shows that your comments don't mean shit. Fucking clown, get a life you loser.
It's true that skill, or "psychological dexterity" doesn't fade, or it's very quickly recalled, but physical strength can be big deal. Depends on the music you play, your technique and general health, each people are different. I have wrist problems (or technique problem, which I haven't been able to correct no matter what advice I've tried to follow) that limited my playing quite a lot even when I practiced regularly. But if I were to try to play a heavy piece like Rachmaninov g minor prelude after a long break, I would be barely able to play it from start to finish if I use my usual dexterity (and would fail the last parts due to being out of energy). And then one or both of my wrists will hurt the next day for 3-5 days. If I were to perform a piece properly, I would need at least a month of practicing to build up the strength to be able to practice sufficiently (which is not practicing even every day). And whenever I perform for an audience and give it all, my wrists will also go into hurt mode, though usually it's worth it since I don't do it so often.

This is it, these are the sorts of uploads of Anime piano on youtube that really inspire scrub transcribers like me to want to create melodic pieces of art for the community to hear. Every note of this arrangement has been arranged and notated in it's rightful place that draws out what the piano as an instrument does best, low bass timber notes for ambiance, and light frilly notes for the higher registers.
This, is how you arrange pop/modern pieces for the piano.
This, is how a single channel inspired an entire community into the genre.
This, is the animenz I miss listening to, and i'm goddamn glad he's back on track.

Man, there really is just something about his arrangements that leave you mesmorized in a way that other cover artists' don't.

In a way, I've grown accustomed to being surprised with a new upload when I least expect it, despite all the breaks over the past two years. What matters is you take of your health first; everything else is secondary. Looking forward to the next upload, whenever it may be 🙂
Btw, my favorite musical portion of this arrangement is the energy with which you attack the half-step up key change into each chorus and the way you seamlessly ease back down into Eb minor afterwards.

I can hear the deep sense of frustration and longing, in your arrangement, it's as if the Beethoven ingrained in you met late Chopin haha. Having gone to your live recitals twice, you have always been an inspiration, where your anime music in the classical style has always warmed me. No other pianist, even classical pianist has come close to the inspiration you've given me to learn classical music. It pains me to hear that it's been a tough time for you, but hey, usually composers best works come from their worst times (Chopin is an amazing example of that). Even if you do or don't read this message, I want to thank you for all the unparalleled arrangements you've made all these years, for inspiring me time and time again to play music!! Do take your time, Chopin did have years where he wasn't so productive due to physical and mental sickness. But beauty comes out of his and your music regardless! Push on Animenz, and try to find inspiration once again. You've never ceased to amaze me with your playing, and I patiently look forward for new arrangements to hear and play! What a triumphant return! This arrangement is one of the best you've done so far. There's quite a lot of different sound textures and the constant changes of them make this really amazing. It's actually taking us along a journey and the ending is really powerful! The switch between pedal and percussive parts might be my favorite about this.

There is a practical reason that Animenz records his hands with the video rather than just showing a photo or something. If he didn't, everyone would comment about how freaking impossible it would be to play his music with human hands. I mean, even after I WATCH him play it, it still looks fecking impossible....
I’ve always loved your methods of arranging anime piano covers. They all just have so much expression and emotion that no other anime pianist can display on the piano. Listening to your covers gives me more fulfillment than the actual anime op/ed would.
I only realized this the most when I finally began watching Nagi no Asukara this month and having listened to your medley of the anime, I felt the immersion of your arrangement and I would not have loved the OST of Nagi no Asukara as much as I do now if not for your amazing arrangement.
I am always grateful for every arrangement that you release no matter how long it takes for them to come out because I know before watching/listening to the cover that I am eternally fulfilled by your playing.

Oh, that Nagi no Asukata medley! Its been a really long time, haha. I experimented with the lyrical style back then (less technique, more intricate melody lines) and was working on smooth transitions between key changes already. Thank you as well for keep visiting my channel!
Animenz Piano Sheets That medley was one of my personal favorites right behind the Shakugan no Shana medley as Shakugan no Shana was my favorite anime back then as well as being one of the first anime that I watched.
I just love your channel and your videos and keeping up with how you’re doing with each tweet, post, or video. I always love going back to your channel to rewatch all your video, anticipating that a new video would come someday.

No matter how little you post I will always be waiting. You gave me a reason to play, you inspired me to continue, to sit back down and play, and after years of wanting to quit. Through your music, I found joy in piano and even part of myself I never knew existed.
I love HERE by JUNNA, the song has so much strength behind it and I don't think you were able to do it justice. Form the very start, your transcription felt hallow compared to your other works. I love your take on it, but for me the main feeling that encapsulates HERE is anguish. Knowing how much strength JUNNA is able to put behind the second half of the song, I don't believe you were able to replicate it. I still love this take on it, I definitely will be practicing it along with 30 of your other transcriptions.
What I really like about this version is that I imagine it being played in a cafe and not at a recital. It takes on this playful feeling that none of your other works have due to their polish. Thank you for making music.
