@@liamconlon4375 I would say, at any company, of which NM is one, if an editor or director makes a breach of code of conduct online, they would be fired or required to leave. Alison Rose made a breach regarding disclosure of NF account - she’s left in disgrace. The mechanics are the same here, but a moral issue and not a wholly policy lead issue (however, it’s a grey area if her tweet is incitement and advocacy of a terror act.. it could stray easily into the illegal.. even worse for her, and Aaron, who you can tell is embarrassed).
It’s happened to Laurence Fox, for something much more innocuous on this very channel. I think - and she seemed sober too - inciting to terror violence and praising the loss of life as a necessity (when it was clearly civilians too) is much worse, particularly in her position.
She also tweeted quickly without maybe knowing the full context - as Aaron said, to try and bring some sort of milquetoast reasoning to her behaviour - well, given that even, I would question her journalistic integrity and ability and overall intellectuality in doing that, over such a volatile topic and area of the globe. If she were editor anywhere else, or lower down the rung, she’d be fired. And I would now question how she got to the head NM in the first place given this charade. They want to be taken seriously, and often look like a classroom of sixth formers making mistake on mistake. If they want to be taken seriously, don’t tweet with abandon, and no context, as if she is an anonymous school kid, she’s not. The rigorous school of journalism Peter went to and Douglas Murray still does, was actually fairly gonzo and on the ground, before it was even really a named thing - they go, they explore, they question, they look at context, they try to remove the ideological glasses.. the opposite of Brown. The NM lot unfortunately are young, and think that tweeting opinion on Twitter / X is enough to call yourself a journalist these days. I’m not saying they all need to be authors, have print media columns, and the experience of Peter.. but they need to learn, sponge and work towards that more. Aaron, case in point, I disagree with him vehemently, but respect him and listen.

Especially if they apologise and it’s not a consistent pattern of behaviour. If she’d kept tweeting afterwards and doubled down then yeah I think the criticism would be more warranted. There’s so many journalists who’ve said and done worse who still have jobs so I don’t know why this person is being singled out as uniquely worthy of sacking.

@@LouisMenottiI respect you for saying that, but I'm not sure how we can pretend there is some kind of symmetry here. From the charter of Hamas:
" The Day of Judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say, 'O Muslim, O servant of God, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.' Only the Gharkad tree would not do that, because it is one of the trees of the Jews."
That's an incitement to genocide. A second Holocaust. It wouldn't have been out of place in Mein Kampf. Their stated declaration is to murder Jews simply because they are Jews. That makes them the direct successors to the Nazis. They deny that the Holocaust took place, but swear to carry out their own. How would you suggest you deal with a population that teaches their children that Jews must die?
It's intensely depressing that misguided 'liberal' people find their sympathies aligned with a fundamentally antisemitic, avowedly genocidal movement. And historians wonder why so many 'ordinary' Germans fell in line with Hitler. We can see very clearly how it happens here. People who think of themselves as good, decent, compassionate leftwingers are defending and apologising for actual Nazis. I'm not saying that's you, but you must admit we have all seen the celebrations.
If you behead children, film it, kidnap old ladies, torture 4 year olds, and rape girls break their bones and parade them through Gaza to be spat on, I'm afraid any claim you have to morality or conscience is dead and buried.
This is evil, there is no justification for it, and the suffering of Palestinians is solely the moral responsibility of the butchers living amongst them. I don't know if you've seen the video of a 4 year old Jewish boy who has been taken hostage and is being tortured? I mean, I don't know how anyone can look at what's happened and still believe that there is a discussion to be had about Israel's right to exist, and the sworn determination of those living on their doorstep to wipe them out.

The TERROR war in SRI LANKA is a great example of how the Tamil Tiger terrorists (who I first supported because they had legitimate claims of discrimination became oppressors of their own people. From first being freedom fighters, they became their oppressors) were DESTROYED after a 30 year civil war. It was a brutal war in their destruction but that was the only way they were destroyed.
The cry about human rights violations was used by them to pause the attacks when they were being attacked close to annihilation when the terrorists wanted to regroup and they, as the caption of this video claims, claimed that the more they were attacked the more the civilians would join them. That was PROVEN A LIE because the civilians grew to hate them and unless FORCED would not join them.
There could have been a political solution with a federal system which was almost at the brink of happening when a minister of the majority government milinda moragoda pinto (he dropped the pinto name which is more Portugese to claim he was a higher level kandyan sinhalese) said just before a significant election that the promise of federalism was a lie.
The difference between hamas and the sri lankan terror group is that the Sri Lankan terror group NEVER WANTED TO WIPE THE MAJORITY Sinhalese OUT OF EXISTENCE while hamas wants to do just that, as a proxy of Iran that claims that Israel should not exist. The land issue for hamas is just an excuse for their greater goal of destroying Israel and all Jews. So Israel faces an EXISTENTIAL THREAT and has NO CHOICE BUT TO DESTROY them and their associated supporters UTTERLY.

The problem with Bastiani's point about every bombed building being a recruiting horn for radicalised Palestinians is that it doesn't really change anything if they don't bomb them. There are enough radicalised Palestinians, enough Hamas supporters, and enough radicalisation of people by Hamas even without the bombing that bombing or not, it doesn't really matter. It's a bit like saying that shooting back at your enemy will give truth to the lie that your enemy tells his population about you; there comes a point where that is neither here nor there and trying to think along these lines will just prevent you from defending yourself. The way Gaza is built up it is also nearly impossible to strike at Hamas without loads of collateral damage, and this is in fact something Hamas knows and actively uses to try to put the Israelis in a position where they either cannot strike back, or strike back and look terrible because loads of civilians get killed. Unfortunately this is a situation where there is very little choice: either do nothing and let Hamas keep launching attacks, or do try to get rid of them and accept that this will unfortunately cost a lot of people their lives.

    • @andrewhall7176
      @andrewhall7176 7 месяцев назад +1

@@martinoneill5804 And why is Gaza so much worse off than Tel Aviv, despite being a major aid recipient? It's not because of Israel; it's because of the government of Gaza (who since 2015 has been Hamas). From the point of view of population density (a) Gaza's population has risen dramatically not due to huge numbers of people being crowded in their by Israel, but due to a very high birth rate, and (b) so what? Why would a dense population cause radicalisation? Singapore has a very dense population, but they are not radicalised and attacking their neighbours.
Even if population density radicalised people (which it doesn't), the argument you seem to be getting at (because of their dense population, the solution to their attacking you is to give them more territory so that they are not so densely packed together) is akin to saying that to stop robberies one should give robbers more property. It's silly.
As for a right of return, why would they do that? So they could be swamped by people who want to throw them out? You're effectively telling them they are bad for not getting rid of themselves. Anyway, we could turn that argument on its head by saying that the Arabs in the Mandate should have allowed the Jews a right of return to their old homeland, but didn't (those Arabs were really not too keen on that).

Mr Bastani is completely correct when he states that Israel has not, and has never, abided by the Oslo accords. There are no excuses for the savage Hamas attack, but the constant building of more and more new settlements in Gaza where Israel agreed not to is not exactly unprovocative. Whilst not saying Israel brought this latest attack on themselves, they certainly didn't help by breaking international law with impunity for 30 years or so. The international community has been far too lenient with Israel. UN resolutions have been constantly broken by Israel, and nothing has been done to censure them. Why is the international community (for which read largely America) so terrified of upsetting Israel, to the point of condoning persistent illegal encroachment into lands where they were supposed to be constrained not to do so? To reiterate: I do not condone what Hamas has done, but one can hardly blame the Arab community for being angry at the long-time behaviour of Israel which seems determined illegally to steal more and more land where they should not be.
Mr Bastani is also correct when he says that every Israeli bomb that now falls on Gaza is a recruiting device for Hamas.

Israel & US firmly believe political and strategic gains are achieved only by military power and that's a big problem towards a peaceful agreement .
