I saw a take along the lines of "you can tell who was bullied as a kid by whether they understand why Loona doesn't trust Bee." I think it's so true, I do think Bee is being sincere with Loona but having experienced a lot of mocking-nice mean girl behavior growing up I completely understand why Loona saw red flags. Bee is so sweet it seems more likely to be sarcastic or insincere, and by keeping her guard up Loona is saying, "This must be a joke at my expense and I'm not falling for it."

    • @rachelryan84

    • @AnInsideJoke
      @AnInsideJoke 6 месяцев назад +88

Yeah. When Georgia brought up Bee's "fakeness," it kind of both did and didn't hit. Bee is both fake AND sincere at the same time. It reminded me of a quote I heard about Audrey Heburn's character in the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's": that she was "a fake who didn't KNOW she was fake, and therefore genuine in that fakeness."
Bee does seem to want the best, and want good things for the people around her and for them to feel good, but her ego kind of gets in the way a bit at times. Plus, she doesn't always realise that what makes her feel good doesn't always make everyone else feel the same.
Bee goes off of the logic that being drunk/high/crossfaded feels amazing to her, and she wants everyone else to feel good when they're around her, so she thinks having them be drunk/high/crossfaded will make them feel just as good (hence the "...Are you good? Are you drunk?...").
And she really only picks up that sometimes it's not okay when someone is MAJORLY and obviously overdoing it and/or using that to cover up something else (like Blitzø later in the episode).

@@AnInsideJoke I think we all have a bit of us that puts on a show for others, especially us neurodivergent folk. And considering she’s sensitive to the energy people give off (possibly literally eating it or absorbing it in some way), the way I interpreted the scene was that she could tell that Loona was having a hard time getting into the party and letting loose, and was trying really hard to help Loona out of her shell. But she doesn’t know about Loona’s past or her trust issues, so she doesn’t realize she’s going about it in the wrong way. Plus, if she throws a lot of parties, she’s probably coaxed introverts out of their shells numerous times the way she’s trying to with Loona

Bee didn't come off as narcissistic to me, just heavily ADHD. Storytime dialogue is easier for ND people because it lets us provide examples of empathy. Plus, Bee does worry about if her guests are partying for self-destructive reasons. Despite Loona snapping passive-aggressively, understandably given that Valley-Girl dog, Bee kept her cool until Loona straight up insulted her.
Actually, given how fast she went rage-mode, I'm even more sure she's ND-coded. Emotional regulation is a toughie for people like that. She is over the top happy to be around so many people having a good time, and as long as she did not realize Loona did not like her, she was perfectly cordial and wanting to share the good vibes. It's just that her real self looks a lot like other people's fake niceties.
Immediately after Loona backed down and looked upset, Bee picked up on it and shrank herself. She even acknowledged that she over-reacted when Tex gave her a look.
Bee is the type of extrovert to adopt an introvert, Loona's just not ready for that yet.

I see her as the party girl that wants to all things to all people because she genuinely wants to be connected with *everyone* (she’s a personification of excess and thus takes everything to the extreme - social relationships included) - while those feelings are genuine, she’s not particularly competent in conveying them in all circumstances: so she surrounds herself with party-goers 24/7 because that kind of atmosphere is very relaxed and allows her to freely associate with everyone there without barriers that would otherwise be there in everyday life.
I believe this is why she had such a strong reaction to Loona rebuffing her when she asked her to check up on her father - Loona does everything to keep those barriers up in spite of her best efforts to get her to relax and it frustrated her to the point where she snapped at her (apologizing immediately afterwards as this isn’t like her under most circumstances). This is probably also why she developed a sense for party-goers that indulge to escape from reality (as they tend to ruin the mood and interfere with her ability to freely mingle).

I don’t see Bee as a narcissist. I think she’s an empath, who literally feeds off other’s feelings. Bee noticed Loona was embarrassed, and shared a story where she felt embarrassed because empathized and wanted to make Loona feel normal. Bee reads people really well, and knows when someone is having fun or self medicating. And it isn’t just her assessment, you can see her looking at Vortex for confirmation. Even when Bee gets aggressive, she is matching Loona’s energy. And as soon as Loona backs down (because it put Vortex in an uncomfortable position), apologizes, and turns around, Bee looks genuinely sad. Bee also saw Blitzø go completely over the top, and yielded rather than push it, and let him take the win.
I’m not saying that Bee is totally selfless or harmless, but I don’t think she’s trying to hurt Loona or other guests.

To an introvert like Loona, an extreme extravert like Bee could seem fake, but Bee's genuine concern becomes clear later in the episode, when she recognizes the self-destructive roots behind the "party animal" antics of Blitz. I think you're being a little unfair to Beelzebub, she's definitely not a fake person just someone who is in 11 on every scale, she's Gluttony incarnate so she's over abundant in every category from her design to her personality.
Beelzebub was being sincere and friendly like giving an example of her own embarrassment with Satan showing despite her being royalty they're both the same but Loona wasn't gonna risk being made fun of so assumed the worst.

Agreed - she is a personification of excess, so literally everything about her is over-the-top! I can see why some people might interpret this as “fake” and in most cases I would agree with that assessment, but here, with this particular character archetype, it is most certainly genuine.

Ozzy, my boy, was very similar to Loona towards strangers. He had an impenetrable shell and came off as the most hostile creature in existence. However, that wasn’t the real him. Ozzy, when in the presence of people he loved and trusted, was a super soaker of love and affection. Loona seems the same way with people who she loves or trusts.
Ozzy and I were both extremely abused, and I saw myself in him. Later on I became his protector. Unlike Loona, however, he enjoyed the protection I gave him.
Loona’s a very realistic character of someone who’s been abused and abandoned. No wonder I loved her so much when I first saw her.

18:40 I would push back on this very firmly. Nothing about Bee in the episode signals her as fake. Bee is the lord of gluttony and she encourages others to indulge and have fun. She's actually very sincere as despite benefiting from everyone indulging she asks Loona to check in on Blitz because she can tell he's being really unhealthy.
Rather than fake I'd argue this is another example of how she's very opposite to Loona. Loona is bristly and guarded and Bee is very warm and open.
Edit: I'm really kind of wondering what made Georgia just go in so harshly on Bee cause she was just super negative and judgemental of her

This makes me wonder what is more damaging in the long run. Being actively bullied, or being completely neglected. As a person who falls under the latter, I was upset with Luna for approaching the means girls at the party, expecting it to go well when those girls clearly were not her vibe. I’ve had people purposely ignore me and act as if I was invisible, So I learned not to force myself to engage with people who seem mean and cruel. Of course, this does not exclude the way those girls treated her, but Luna seemed more concerned with fitting in with anyone she could find, rather than having a good time at the party in general. She clearly wants to make connections, but they seem almost superficial. Not like Bee, but fake in a different way. She wants to go back to the party, mainly because a guy shows interest in her by calling her a “hottie”. (Yes, Blitzo gives her extra confidence, but she wanted to leave even when the first imp says hi to Blitzo.) The fact that Tex shows much more of a genuine respect and interest in her, she writes him off just because he is not available as a boyfriend. I get that Bee threatens her in a lot of ways, but she introduced herself, and told her to have fun. She snaps at everything Bee says, even though she’s just doing her job as the party host. People refusing to interact with me actually makes me gravitate towards people like Bee, because at least they acknowledge that I’m present. Even if I don’t know how genuine they’re being, the fact that they talked to me like an actual person, is more than what others have done. Maybe I set the bar too low, but the way Luna approaches relationships seems like she is self sabotaging herself. Love her as a character, but her attitude rubs me the wrong way sometimes.

The most ironic thing is that although she annoys Moxxie in every way possible, they are actually quite similar to each other, to the point that their behavior in the Queen Bee party episode literally resembled Moxxie with his social anxiety disorder. Hopefully we see some development as true companions instead of putting each other down since Moxxie only berates her for her laziness at work 😅

When I first saw Loona especially in the pilot episode and in the first Episode of Season 1, I tend to associate her as a cynical, apathetic, teenager not giving two F’s on everything and going with the flow, but by episode 3, "Springbreakers" along with Episode 8 "Queen Bee" and especially in Season 2, "Seeing Stars" we saw a different side of Loona as a character and deep down she does care for her adoptive dad, Blitzø and her other co-workers Moxxie and Millie and props to Erica Lindbeck providing voice of Loona, and she’s easily within my top five favorite _Helluva Boss_ characters.
Still, seeing her backstory in "Seeing Stars" before she got adopted by Blitzø was emotional.😭😔

Regarding the topic of self-esteem being tied to negative traits, I've actually seen an increased focus in recent years on _self-compassion_ rather than self-esteem -- it's less about thinking very highly of yourself, which can lead to a toxic self-image, and more about being able to _forgive_ yourself for the times you've been at your worst.
Also, I feel like this analysis might've misread Bee. Yes, she's very bubbly and outgoing in ways that seem disingenuous, but this is actually a pretty good representation of a highly social extrovert: social interaction is a stimulant for certain types of people, so when she said that she's "just really high on all this tasty energy right now!", I think it could be taken _literally_ -- it's as much of a buzz for her just being around people as whatever she brewed up in those kegs. So when she said that Loona's unfiltered honesty made her her new favorite person... honestly, I think she was being _sincere._ It might even be helpful for Loona to spend more time around Bee and the new social group she was with at the party, just to help coax her out of her shell and provide the social confidence she's still kinda lacking.

I don't know if I'd call Bee a narcissist, rather a representation of gluttony and by extension addiction.
You can see she's thoughtful and a caregiver in her own way and maybe that makes Loona a bit envious of her, but Bee also requires constant endless indulgence. Not just in food and drink, but also in company. She's never not talking to someone because she can't handle not having that stimulation.

At some point she calmed down and started to warm up to us. She was still grouchy but she had calmed down and settled in.
Then came a time we were moving to a new house. She started making noises and even started over eating because she thought she was going to get left behind again.
She calmed down a LOT once we had her in the truck and she realized she was coming too. She got to live the rest of her time as a pampered house cat.

I really hope that Loona sees through Blitzo's frustration and sadness. They are so alike in so many ways (and I don't mean the trauma) but Blitzo whether he is aware of it or not is giving her something he didn't have, which is a foundation of support. She hasn't ruined her life yet like he thinks he has... and maybe he can help her when he went so long without meaningful help. And I just adore them so much... She quite literally brings out a part of him that makes him better for it... even if some aspects of that love and affection aren't always reciprocated or understood.

Luna seems like that kind of person who will grow into being the fiercest protector for kids who feel unloved/unwanted. Though Octavia's circumstances couldn't be more different from her own, she saw a similar pain and that instantly brought her usually-walled-off protective side to the surface.
I really hope we see more with the two of them, Octavia could benefit from a worldly big sis sort of friend and being there for a teenager in a kind of messed up lonely situation would probably heal a little bit more of her inner wounds.

In defense of Bee, I'm pretty sure she's a psychovore, and is literally feeding of the party's energy. "Keep making me that m*f*ing honey" probably isn’t a metaphor, since she's Gluttony and the creator of Beel's Bub (which seems to be a type of mead, playing into the honeybee aspect). When she first approaches Luna, I think she's hopped up on party energy. If she really didn't care, she would've let Blitz spiral.

With Bee, i feel like a lot of people either immediately get what she's about, or completely miss it. As the embodiment of Gluttony, she does everything in excess. Meaning that she's being 100% herself in every scene. It can be very easy for someone with social anxiety, or especially someone who's had negative experiences with someone of Bee's personality type before, to immediately assume that she's being fake and a jerk. But Bee, as an extrovert, feeds off of other people's energy - and as the sin of Gluttony, she LITERALLY feeds on it: "I'm just high on all this tasty energy right now." Other people having fun and a good time feeds her bottomless appetite. She feeds them, and in turn, their energy feeds her. When she first interacts with Loona, she doesn't immediately pick up on how Loona's feeling because Loona is trying to hide hers, so it's being drowned out by everyone else's energy. So Bee does what she usually does to people at her parties: make them feel welcome and encourage them to have a good time. She tells the story about her seeing Satan without a shirt off to try to relate to Loona, showing that even the Queen of Gluttony has awkward moments and can feel embarrassment. She calls Loona her "new favorite person" to try to pump her up. But from Loona's perspective, it feels like "nobody is actually *this* happy or well-liked without some ulterior motive." Bee doesn't actually have any motivation to make Loona feel bad, or anyone else for that matter, because she can't feed off of that. Or, she could, but it wouldn't be nearly as sweet. Loona doesn't know that though, because she's too in her own head to realize.

Like some others, I'll have to give some pushback about Bee-elzebub. She may be fairly shallow, but she wants connection with people at her parties. For some context on her relationship with Tex, in Hell, the Imps and Hellhounds are the LOWEST of the low, as far as class goes. Bee is not only a Royal, but the Lord of Gluttony, ruling her own ring in Hell. From the get go, that tells us that she's probably pretty chill, as Tex also seems pretty chill, and not the type to put up with stuff.
I'd say she's got earmarks of ADHD, as someone with ADHD. She wants everyone to be happy at her parties, and while that can seem superficial, she shows genuine concern when she asks Loona to check on Blitz, while saying that normally she'd be all for his activities at her party, if they weren't compensation for something negative she felt from him. I would say she stepped in it, a bit, with Loona, because she was trying to connect with someone who didn't want to. Because Loona was so closed off, Bee likely couldn't get a read on her, while Blitz was an open book because of his throwing himself into self-destructive behaviors.
I think there's a bias about a popular party girl, who's voiced by Kesha, cuz I have a feeling that that's how Kesha actually talks, to some degree (and after listening to some interviews, yeah, just a hyped up, excitable version). I think the laissez faire way she speaks comes off as more superficial than she actually is, as she takes everything to eleven, as someone else said. Food, drinks, drugs, fun, music, partying, and since Loona tends to be closed off and keeps it more around a negative number, Bee's behavior will be jarring... not to mention that Bee is the "hot" girlfriend of Loona's crush, so I'd say part of Loona's upset might be from the fact that the competition is too steep. You can see from her immediate reaction, it was almost like, "THIS is the girlfriend? F*CK! I was hoping I was cuter than her, at least."

18:40 I'm going to disagree with you here - Beelzebub is also very direct and honest. She's more cheerful and such, but that's not fake. She doesn't need to be the center of attention either - this scene is literally her dropping out of the center of attention to chat with just her boyfriend and the friend he brought. She makes sure that everyone is enjoying themselves, sure, but I'm not sure how "making sure people are enjoying her party" indicates any of the personality traits you are ascribing to her here. She's also _literally_ an empath - she's not making people fakely seem happy, she's making sure they actually _are_ enjoying themselves.
20:15 That's the kind of compliment Beelzebub _just gave,_ though? She specifically compliments Loona's direct honesty.
20:55 The anecdote she just shared is literally about an awkward situation she got herself into with a lack of tact. "Here's a related anecdote about the time I too made a faux pas that I felt awkward about" is not exactly "listen to how wonderful I am"
It also feels a little weird that you cut out Beelzebub talking to Loona about how her dad really isn't _actually_ enjoying himself despite outward appearances, and getting her to take him home.

Glad someone pointed out how fake Bee comes across as.
On the one hand she does seem genuine, but I also wouldn't be super comfortable around someone like Bee.

If we get an episode or two more of Vortex, we need an analysis on him too. From what we got so far, he is such a good buddy and solid friend

I think a vid of the sins we've seen would be awesome to contrast them; Ozzie and Bee are so different from Mammon, and if Lucifer is thrown in for Pride it could make a really dynamic vid.

I feel a great deal of kinship with Loona now that I know more about her.
Speaking as an Autistic introvert there is quite a lot going on with her that I can relate to.

The scene with beelzebub was also hard for Loona because Loona had feelings toward Tex.

Yeah, no shade towards Dow, but I feel like this was kind of a surface-level analysis of Loona. There were a lot of complex emotions hinted at and we didn't really touch on many of them.

I think you're a little off about Bee. She is genuin. In that moment, spending time with Luna and getting to know her, a new person who reacts in a way she rarely sees, Luna genuinly is her favorite person. Bee is a super extrovert. Her favorite person is whoever she is with, having a good time with.
But for someone with trust issues like Luna, Bee is too good to be true. Too kind, too open, too honest, too genuin to be true.
They are perfect fouls to eachother, really.
I know Bee isn't the topic of this epesode, but she is genuinly worried about Blizo. He isn't endulging, he's distracting himself. He is wallowing. And that isn't what Bee is about. She wants people to have fun and enjoy themself. Get tipsy for fun, not to drown yourself. She is the Queen Bee of the Party. And not a pity party.

When I saw the episode I really thought that Bee wasn't so much fake so much as over-tuned into people's desires, or a straight-up empath. She uses synesthetic words like emotions being tasty (or not) and when Blitz beat her at her own game, she showed respect but also exploded when Loona got upset at being asked to check on him.
NOW, in retrospect, maybe Bee only cared because Blitz was killing the vibe and blew her top at being questioned, but I'd like to believe the best.
Also, unrelated, it's probably a bad sign when you win a drinking contest with the literal Deadly Sin of Gluttony. An excellent point on the resume, but his liver is probably a war zone!

It may be derived from anxiety but I certainly know I polarize between introvert and extrovert when blood family is in the vicinity. Being around family is very draining.

One thing that I like that their dynamic is they call each other "safe," names instead of being a nuisance. The way Loona said "Da- Blitz." instead of Blitzo.
