In China, wheelchairs have been in use since roughly 525 AD. The earliest known record of a wheelchair is an inscription on a stone slate in China.
My grandfather Leonard was in a wheelchair several years before he died. Back in 2003.
Chinese scholar Zhuge Liang (pronounced joo-gay lee-yong) lived from 181-234; there are sketches of him made in these times depicting him in wheelchairs. By the time he died, he was gravely ill and weak.
