This is so great! I wished more schools/places did this. I’m a college graduate myself and I was still having trouble fully understanding the propositions. The way all the faculty explained the propositions made it so clear to understand! I appreciate you all putting this presentation together and allowing the public to access it.
I’m so thankful for this helpful discussion. I hate to speak ill of any of the presenters but I think Dr. Cox must’ve been nervous or something as her explanation of Prop 36 was rather confusing. I was just surprised that such an educated person would be so confusing. Perhaps public speaking just isn’t her forte. But I do very much appreciate the time she, and each one of you put into your research and explanations. I am genuinely grateful that you took the time to make this video. I feel the way the propositions are written with so much tricky language or jargon that it’s very difficult to get a true understanding of what’s being proposed. If you’re not a highly educated individual from an educated family, and spend hours upon hours educating yourself about all of the issues, it feels nearly impossible to make a truly “informed” decision. You really have to know so much of the history, background to be considered informed. It truly begins long before you actually vote on any given issue. Additionally, it feels like you either get highly divisive rhetoric explanations from either side or just a reiteration of what’s written in your voter info guide from any of the neutral information sources. It just feels like no one actually breaks it down in plain, straightforward language. I’m sure for fear of the backlash they’d endure if they did try to do such a thing. Perhaps there’s really no way to do that without the influence of one’s own personal bias. However, I don’t want my sentiment to undermine my appreciation for this video. I did learn a lot, and feel much clearer on a few of the propositions that I was initially unsure of. That is directly thanks to all of the speakers from this video. I thank you so much for all the time and energy you out into your presentations and for sharing your knowledge and insights so freely.
I’m so thankful for this helpful discussion. I hate to speak ill of any of the professors/presenters but I was left feeling rather confused after Dr. Cox’s explanation of Prop 36.
That's because (im guessing) she didn't read the law, she just read the summaries. She wasn't able to answer any of the questions and talked in vagueries about how the law is oppressive without addressing any of the issues CA has been having over the last several years
Yeah that was kind of my question too. If the organization is a bad actor for its tenants and misappropriating its funds, is it an issue if 34 is a targeted law?
Prop 33 Rent control argument by economist is similar to minimum wage. Yes, it can disincentivize building of new apartments but not necessarily single family homes, mobile homes or condos. Also, some of the low income housing are subsidized by the govt via taxes and the low income housing ends up creating slums and puts money in the pockets of slum lords with less oversight. There are many who own 3 or 4 homes and cause a reduced supply of homes to buy but increase homes for rent. However, it is also possible that a landlord will sell their property because they can’t generate a profitable return on investment. BTW, why is property 34 the only one u are telling me how to vote? No other prop you’re talking about has you telling me how to vote. Why is prop 34 the only prop u are telling me to vote no?
Thank you for this presentation w/ Q&A. It helped me make a final decision on a few propositions I wasn't sure which way I'd vote.

For the opponents of Prop 34, where is the concern for the 500 violations? Who cares about those?
