May I ask.... Is there aspects in the apparatus set that can jeopardise the accuracy of the results of the experiment?
One thing that would be hard to quantify would be expansion of the bordon flask and pipe connecting it to the pressure gauge. The flask is immersed in the heated water which could lead to expansion. Expansion is a problem since the pressure law assumes a constant volume during the process.
Other factors that should be checked and resolved if necessary:
- Calibrate the pressure gauge. Not doing this could allow a zero error to go unnoticed.
- Calibrate the temperature probe.
- In the set up that I used for this experiment it was not possible to measure the temperature of the air directly. It was assumed that the air inside the flask was the same temperature as the surrounding water. That's almost certainly not the case. This would lead to an offset between my measurement and the real temperature - thus affecting accuracy.
