Ladies, you can still shampoo and condition your hair while it’s still in cornrows or braids.
“Leaving your hair alone” does not mean neglecting it.
An unclean scalp is a breeding ground for bacteria and fungal infections.

For tangling and matting. De-tangling dry with oil separates hair better and reduces shedding. Wetting the hair exacerbates tangling because the cuticles are lifted and stick to each other (like Velcro). The oil in conditioner is a saving grace tho :)

The only mistake here, is she didn't take care of her hair while it's in protective styling. As long as you wash and do your treatments, this is the best way to grow your hair. I did it for two years and my hair got to waist length.

A Protective Style protects the weakest part of the hair the ends.
When tucked away they won’t rub up against your clothes, lose hydration & moisture, and keeps the hair in a stretched state (shrunken hair = more tangles)
Also protective styles are low to no manipulation hairstyle. The more you are messing with your hair the more breakage can occur.

Just to emphasise I appreciate you sharing. Just thought it would help you in the future
Water makes the hair swell, so if matted it swells and becomes harder to release. Where as if you use the conditioner first, it will still swell due to water content But it will have more slip, hence easier to undo. Again appreciate you

@@sarahm5926 Yes I do wash and condition my hair every 3 weeks plus I use island mango oil on my scalp and sometimes a leave in conditioner spray just to keep it moisturized.

Conditioner is better as it adds moisture
      Oil seals moisture

I saturate my braided hair especially the root of the braids with oil nothing water based whatsoever. I take the matted root with a bobby pin and the stick of a rat tailed comb.
