- Bobby Hull was 14 years old in 1953 when he went to Cambridge to play Jr. B for the Hespeler Black Hawks. He was billeted at a hotel in Preston, attended Preston High School and played at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. In the fall of 1954 he returned to Galt to play for the Jr. A Black Hawks, and attended Galt Collegiate. He also honed his famed slapshot. (Particular thanks to Bill Bartels, Randy Faist, Tom Conaway and Ed Heather).
No one could bring the fans to their feet like Bobby Hull. To see Bobby Hull skate with his powerful strides was amazing. Don't recall ever seeing Bobby Hull knocked off his skates.
As a Dear Friend in his last years, especially 2022, maybe because he is now gone, I can only say he was a Tough as nails, Sharp as a whip, hysterically Sweet man with a heart of Gold to Authentic people..
Nothing stopped him, he was a very generous & strong willed with a memory like an elephant. Oh the stories he had would go back to his childhood with precise detail...
I loved this man like a second Dad and he treated me in kind, I'll cherish so many treasured moments forever...as a great Friend and his hand picked 'adopted' Daughter xxx
I miss & love him very much...
Thank You for sharing! Bests, dtf
I had the great honour of meeting and chatting with him here in Nov. 2010. Quite the legend!
I love Bobby Hull , he was no “Saint” but he was a Great Man … he was every thing good in hockey …. God Speed “Golden Jet” you will be remembered Dearly ❤
Great Man? You're talking about the guy that beat two of his wives, was charged for assaulting a police officer and said Hitler had good ideas when talking about the black population.
@@jeffgilbert9917 I met Mr Hull I liked him as a person and a hockey player.
@@jeffgilbert9917 Were you there ? Can you even skate?
@@jeffgilbert9917 Please fact check below the surface & or add the full parts you left out. Human's are fallible to the human condition. Read The Full available info. Bobby Also was A Great Man among men. Bests, dtf
No#9 Golden Jet he was a force to deal with in his prime strong heck of a shot. No shot blocking when Bobby wound up defense men peeled out of the way in those days.
I loved Bobby hull he was along side Gordie Howe in my eyes
Bobby Hull I know as as 15 year old stayed ( was billeted) with my grandparents for a short time. I know from my dad's stories over the years. My dad George Holtl was playing with the junior B Hespeler Hawks. As a 19 year old he would lend Bobby sweat shirts to wear that were always a tad too small for Bobby's hulking frame even at his younger age. Another story was Bobby's ability to throw rocks with pinpoint accuracy and easily break street lights in a single shot. He was as it turned out an all around athlete and could have easily had a career in baseball.
One of my dad's good pals was John Last. I'm still not sure the relation to Toots Last if any. I always assumed there is a relation. I could be wrong...I'm not sure. There were a few fellows from that period that played hockey together who remained very tight knit for many many years on into a further development of Old timers hockey in Cambridge. Most notably the Galt Gore's Hockey club
I'm not certain but I think Hespeler already had an existing Old timers club. I have less knowledge of Hespelers roots me being a Galt guy..lol,,
well done video ...dry but detailed ...hard to figure only a few comments made here. wd
"dry"~ imho This was very warm & mindful & thoughtful work from a good hearted man who could rival PBS's Ken Burns. Bests, dtf
Do you have information on Kenny Wharram?
Yes, some information on Kenny. His good friend and teammate Pete Conacher has fond memories of Kenny. Indeed, when Pete was called up to play with Chicago in his last year with Galt, he wanted to return to Galt to close out the year. Kenny was leading the league in scoring that year and was just ahead of Conacher. Pete wanted to play with Chicago but also wanted to finish out the year with Kenny. They clicked. For most of Conacher’s goals, Kenny assisted. Chicago wanted to keep Pete up in the NHL-Kenny still had a year to go-and Pete’s father Charlie wanted his son to return to Galt to finish high school. Kenny and Pete were the best of friends and were an incredible 1-2 punch.
@@Ithappenedincambridge Well said!
Bobby was a very short tempered alcoholic and had a nasty mean and viscously violent side. Assaulted a cop and beat up his wives. Avoided prison time. Not a hero.
Incredible speed and slapshot. Great at signing autographs for the fans. 💨
