I was in Switzerland on a tour from Germany in early 80's and you could see the taxi ways going into the mountain side. Don't remember where that was. They had F-5's then.
We still have F-5s in the south of Chile, they are very well updated and they are lethal, fully equipped with bombs and missiles with 3d helmets, digital screens and modern radars. Here they are called Tigre ll, they have already completed 40 years of service and will be given Low in a few more years, but they are still in perfect condition and modernized to almost F-16 standards, greetings.-

The original designers of the Northrop YF-17 Cobra and early prototypes of the McDonnell Douglas F-18A Hornet in the late 1970's must be very proud of what their aircraft went on to become.
The funny thing is that the YF-17 lost or to the YF-16. Thank God the Navy was there during the competition/demos
Fun fact, the YF17 design comes from the F5 Tiger. Knowing that the YF17 lead to the F18 hornet that means that the F5 is a bit like the Grandfather of the F18 and both are still flying in the Swiss Air Force.

Just when I think I'm not likely to be wowed, again, you share with us this utterly stupendous video. Truly the best air show I’ve ever seen on YT. I just saw Top Gun Maverick at an AMC theater last Saturday and I gotta say, these video scenes can compete with the scenes in the movie. Swiss pilots a tremendous!
No matter how many times and from different points of view I see it, I'm still in awe.
Some of these are in the UK at the moment for an exercise. One caused a sonic boom, over parts of Yorkshire. It was reported as an earthquake!
At .23 are you fu*king kidding me? Damn that was some insane g’s. Honestly, one of the coolest vids I’ve seen showcasing aircraft in service and not altered for airshows.
Funny how I can’t get enough of this video and keep coming back to it. No joke, it’s the best I’ve seen that shows the true combat capabilities of the F-18. I wasn’t a big F-18 fan, that is until I saw this video. Nice job!

As a retired sailor I can tell you that this display was tame to the ones we get at sea with no FAA restrictions.
We would be doing plane guard for the carrier and the f18s would buzz by at Mach 2. Absolutely AWESOME power!
if youve never been to axalp or mach loop,, you have no idea what your talking about.. live fire and jets flying under and over you within 50 feet..youre insane

@@DafyddPhillips Is this a yearly event? Tickets for sale? I've been to countless Air Shows ( Paris Air, Confederate Air Force show Texas, Reno 10+ and dozens of locals). As an Army Huey Repairman and door gunner with a pilots license, I would give a left testicle for this. Aviation Fan? Hell Yes !

I love how they have the IAD on the drop tanks for interrogations. Just incase you did not know you were in trouble when you look over your wing and see a F/A 18 formed on your wing they have the damn radio channel that they will be yelling at you at painted on the fuselage.
What a setting for this display of power and speed.

Exemplary panning skills there Dafydd ! I tried to film F1 cars in the past and it’s not easy to keep them in frame. Takes a lot of skill and you make it look easy.

I was in San Fran. for fleet week, I remember walking about city hearing jets ahead, but seeing nothing. I thought to myself that how crazy an AO must be from the ground; if you heard those engines and lived , you lucky lol. At home I lived under a flight line for aircraft that did the Football games fly over after the anthem. I would always be grilling at 1pm to see them fly over. Many a time it was A-10 Hogs. So close you can read, see rivets and pilot.
Very cool! Fleet week is on my bucket list. Maybe 2024.

Top gear again, reminds me of my time in the gulf war when we had two hornets from Independence doing gunnery practise on our Larrn Target streamed 100 yds astern. When they finished we had a private air show rolls loops low low passes sound barrier smashed and to finish off they at, no kidding, about 100ft ripped past and at the bridge wing stood the two jets on their arse straight-up rolling out of sight. Keep up the great footage.
These hornets are giving quite a show, and you have recorded it most wonderfully!

I remember being in the Swiss Alps almost 30 years ago and what a strange sensation it was to hear and get glimpses of F-5's flying below in the valleys! I can only imagine being that up close to those Hornets there!
It was October 1987, and my wife and I were on our first trip to Europe. We chose to drive around Switzerland for week 1 because of the mix of languages and cultures -- and the gorgeous scenery and lovely small towns and villages. Apparently, the Swiss have many military exercises at that time of year. Outside of Chur, we stopped at a local gas station to refuel. At the next pump, a Swiss army 4x4 pulled up, a couple of soldiers got out and refueled their jeep-like transport. Biggest difference from our car: the Swiss vehicle was equipped with a nice recoilless gun (about 105mm) on a swivel mount. Imagine seeing that vehicle in your rear-view mirror on the highway -- would clear traffic in an instant! Later, we pulled into a small hamlet but had to thread our way around a military checkpoint. The Swiss had turned the village into a strong point -- HQ troops in military vehicles in the central plaza while others ringed the town taking up defensive positions. A day or so later, we pulled into Andermatt only to find military convoys moving through town and taking up positions in the hills. Was like being on a giant movie set! We had coffee and cakes and at a café and took in the show before moving on to take a car train through the mountains to Brig. Loved it.

I grunt involuntarily whenever one of those guys yanks back the stick and goes vertical! The airframe doesn't so much carve the turn, as it just skids through the air until it's able to change direction.
Hornet has amazing low-speed high alpha maneuverability. You can pretty much yank the nose wherever you want. 😀

That scenery alone is stunning. To see those jets flying by must be awesome. Maybe someday I will be on one of those mountains. But by then I will probably watch Gen 6 jets. hahaha - Edit: Hail to the engineers who make this possible.

Not an air show but on the first day of the first Gulf war I watched 27 or 29 (can't remember which) F15's refuel over my head at about 4000 feet, one KC 10 and 2 KC 135's, the 15's were banked up behind each tanker in rows of four, they few a slow race track pattern over the Aramco town of Uhailiyah, 2 hours south west Of Dhahran KSA. I'm sure the tankers must have been modified as I was convinced they were refuelling off the wings as well as the centre boom, amazing sight in the clear blue afternoon sky. Love your work.

Thank you. I use a canon 1dx2 with a 300mm f2.8 lens. My camcorder is then mounted on top of the lens.

Do what.. in 2021 they will not survive against modern threats. I can't understand how people don't see that.. the f35 is the future in 2 years when the block 4 comes out everyone will wish they had the f35.
@@dwizzleusa4202 neutral country, impossible to do real flight operations (swiss military Airplanes can t flight during the night by law)... The f35 is too much for us. An AAS system will to the job alone here.
