Brazil has bought the Gripen E, not the Gripen NG.
There has only been built one Gripen NG and that aircraft was a modified Gripen C and it was used to test new technology and engines for the upcoming Gripen E.
It also serves as a test platform for upgrades for the Gripen C (we still have 95 of them in Swedish Air Force).
Simply put, Gripen NG was a Gripen C but with a more powerful engine, the latest electronics and sensors and it had a new designed landing gear.
There will not be any more Gripen NG built.
Hopefully there will be several hundred more Gripen E built.
The new Gripen E is more or less a completely new aircraft.
The only part it shares with the old Gripen C is the airframe around the cockpit.
Everything else is newly designed (in the 2010’s).
Wings, body, rudder, canards, electronics, engine, radar and other sensors, avionics..... everything is newly designed.
I know that many sources claim that Gripen NG = Gripen E but they are all wrong.
That's what I meant... Gripen E/F coming to FAB in 2021!

I am a Swedish aeronautical engineer so I know one or two things about the versions of the Gripen.
The airplane Gripen NG was only built in one (!) aircraft and there will not be any more built.
It was a higly modified Gripen D (sorry, I said C in my previous answer).
The main purpose of that only aircraft was to test and develop new technology for the upcoming Gripen E & F but also for upgrades for Gripen C & D.
That is an undiscussable fact.
Gripen NG was also the version of Gripen that won the Swiss procurement of new fighters a few years back.
When the Swiss people later voted no to the deal, the Gripen development went on yet another development journey.
SAAB redesigned more or less the whole aircraft to make it bigger and to be able to carry more load and extended it's service range considerably.
That development resulted in Gripen E & F.
But....
It is true that the new Gripen E & F in media often is referred to as Gripen NG.
Even wikipedia got this wrong.
This might just be the most amazing display on RUclips... the scenery, sound, and everything else is just perfect! HUGE Like from me!!

Bin jedesmal froh, wenn ich mich zwischen den Vorführungen mal für ein paar Minuten auf meinen Campingstuhl setzen kann. Naja, man wird leider nicht jünger, gell. ;)) Klar haben wir im Osten viele wunderschöne Gegenden. Den Thüringer Wald, die sächsische Schweiz, den Spreewald, oder die Ostsee, um nur einige zu nennen.
