Have you ever read a history book? Kolkata was built by the British in the 18th century! Kolkata is nowhere close to being one of the oldest cities in the world - places such as Jericho in Occupied Palestine have been settled by humans for 10,000 years [even before cities were founded] long before Varanasi which is certainly not the oldest. Many cities in the Middle East e.g. Damascus and places such as Athens were permanently settled for 5,000 years [although the actual cities are younger - Athens is over 3,000 years old]. In India Delhi is supposed to be on the site of Ancient Indraprastha which was built around 3,400 years ago and Patna is on the site of Pataliputra built 2,500 years ago. Indeed, I just found "The World's Twenty Oldest Cities" article on the British Telegraph newspaper site whcih gives more accurate information and it agrees with me about Jericho.
