    Here's Part Two of my look at a British 24 Hour Ration Pack from 2015. This is Menu No.3, and in this part we check out the final two meals that I made up from the components. Overall, everything was excellent--especially the main entrees!

      Probably not!!! The British are already making it with Beef, just not in this particular instance.
      It's a running joke:
      Why is British Curry better than Indian Curry? BEEF!!!

    Just shows the difference in national taste, beens and sausages, is one of the best liked ration meals for British squaddies, and has been since the ration packs of the 1960s

      One of the best things about trying out rations from different countries is to see what kind of national dishes will be represented!

    Great review, and glad you liked it. The British Army listens quite closely to what the troops want, so they change with the times..I notice things like "biscuits brown" get dumped but "Cola" gets added. The MOD are quite eclectic from where they source their stuff, they don't care provided it meets their standards.

      "an army marches on its stomach" Napoleon.
      Yeah we beat the ever living shit out of him but it's still a good idea & one we've used for quite a while now, a soldier that isn't demoralised from shit food is typically better at his job.

      they drop off cases of them at the BC & everyone decides who gets what, there are 20 different menus in a standard drop off, imo no3 which he had is one of the weaker ones, 14, 15 & 20 are the ones that are snapped up first, so seeing as how much he liked 3 which is the base line of the bunch you can imagine how much better the others are.

    UK soldiers were until recently issued with hexi stoves which folded out and had a cup sized stand too.
    Now after a MOD tender dragon fuel won.
    Thier stoves with non toxic solid fuel are great. Available on civilian market. Stove isn't badly priced but fuel tablets pricey.
    However testing whilst camping I found it to be well designed and convenient.
    Have one in car in my emergency kit so at least can have nice cup of tea and a mre if stranded awaiting rescue.

    The Anti-Baci wipes are large so they can be used as wash cloths when you're out away from proper wash facilities. 1 for morning, 1 for evening. Generally, meal wise, I'd hit the carbs in the morning, and proteins for evening.

    great review, mr. gschultz!
    i really enjoy your mre reviews and all those from steve1989, kiwidude, stickyfingaz, and all the great reviewers.
    when i started mre reviews on my german bushcraft, survival, knives and gear channel, i didn't expect, that my german review buddies would do that too....
    but its very nice to see that and i love all the reviews in english and german.
    now... i have about 80 mre's to eat and review... french, spain, italy, germans (if you need help to translate the epas: contact me on facebook!), usa, dutch, swedish, norway etc. etc... new mre's and vintage from the 70's, 80's up to the fresh rations...
    so to give you and your great mre-buddies and friends a big hug: thanks to you guys for giving me the idea for making german mre reviews and for growing after my idea the german mre scene!
    it feels great to be part of the international mre reviewers scenes.
    all the best greetings from cologne, germany
    arthur brehm 😉
    p.s.: if you like to check my reviews in german.... look for my epa/mre playlist on my channel! ;)

    Yay part 2, looks good. That cola beverage though umm I dunno looks like flat cola to me. See you have been tainted by US MREs over processed artificial preservatives etc. A lot of the international rations have real food in them, so when I taste I do compare them to real food because other countries have proved that you can have really good tasting real food in rations.

    Was going to suggest perhaps the tropical drink is mango flavored. It is a tropical fruit.
    Love your review of this ration. Something bit different than the US ones you usually do. There really is a lot of food in their 24 hour ration.
    Soda is a strange drink in a way. The fruit squeeze thing is similar in a way to that squeeze pouch of fruit found in the toddler section at the grocery store in US. This was a great ration and seem to have a good variety of foods.

    • @dogsnads5634
      @dogsnads5634 7 лет назад

      Thats exactly what the fruit pouch is. It was seen as a good way of getting fruit to the troops, particularly in Afghan conditions. Thats why there is no chocolate, or anything that will melt. A lot of these ORP's have trail mix in them as well, like the nuts they're designed to be chucked in your pocket and eaten through the day to keep energy levels up.

    Hey Gundog, when I was in the US Army stationed in ( then ) West Germany in the late 70s and 80s we were issued
    MCI ( Meals Combat Individual ) in the field. Basically they were C-Rats but no cigarettes.
    In cold German winter when you were trying to stay up on guard duty you needed a pick me up.
    I would fire up our trusty M-1950 Track stove to boil up some water in my canteen cup and add
    my C-rat coffee and my C-rat creamer and C-rat sugar and my C-rat Hot Coa Coa and give a big stir.
    Yes, I invented Coff-Coa.
    Why don't you give that a try here some time.

    Thanks for the review - these UK ORPs are quite rich. I had this breakfast beans/sausages in the ORP and it was... not to use other words ... tasteless. I added a lot of Tabasco - it became spicy, but not tasty

  • @rockyraab8290

    Gundog might have put some peanuts on the curry - Magnus certainly would have. That's more Asian than Indian, but I bet it would have been good. I think I speak for many of us when I suggest you can skip the coffee from now on. You don't really care for it, and there isn't one of us who hasn't had instant coffee, so it's hardly a revelation what it tastes like.

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  7 лет назад +1

      The peanut idea is a good thought. It certainly didn't NEED anything extra, but I agree that it probably been quite tasty. As far as the coffee, I appreciate the sentiment about skipping it (and would be more than happy to not have it). But let me share the reason why I DO check out the coffee. Believe it or not, I didn't do the coffee in the old days. Since I don't like coffee I never bothered to make it up (makes sense, right?). But I was constantly being scolded for not doing a "complete" review because I was skipping the coffee. It was a pretty good point. Even though I don't have anything deep or insightful to say about it, it does seem more like a full review with it there. Maybe I'll try doing less with it? I could quickly make it up and say something like "There's the instant coffee" without really trying to "review" it too deeply.

    • @rockyraab8290
      @rockyraab8290 7 лет назад +1

      I don't think leaving the coffee out would make it any less "complete." If viewers insist on using everything, then some reviewer will have to video himself "using" the toilet paper...

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  7 лет назад

      Although I almost always forget/neglect to try the gum, I otherwise try to check out everything that is edible/drinkable. I might try to gloss over the coffee a bit, but will continue to at least make it up. The complaints about leaving it out far outweigh the ones I get for giving it a lame review.

  • @mariohendriks1
    @mariohendriks1 7 лет назад

    Douwe Egberts is a Dutch coffee brand. The Dutch stole coffee plants from Yemen in the 18th century which they then took to the East Indies (Indonesia) to grow and the beans were imported to Holland to be roasted and be sold by the Douwe Egberts company. The Dutch later brought plants from the botanical gardens in Amsterdam to South America. Most plants there still have Amsterdam genes.
