My vote is for the cactus. You gave some very good reasons as to why, in addition I think another advantage is it will add a interesting change of level in the small cactus garden. This this will create a bit of a focal point and some extra drama in that garden bed too. Gotta love more drama in the garden!
I am glad you think it will look nice. I have been torn about the size of the pot against that wall, but i do think it will look nice with some rearranging of the plants around. May take some playing around, but that is a large part of the fun!
Are you supposed to trim off those bent stems from the birds of paradise?? I have a birds of paradise that I accidentally bumped into with my mattress (long story-moving furniture nyc apartment) Now I have three bent stems. Am I supposed to cut those off because they’re broken?
......rambling is OK ....if your good at it..........and your ramblings are the best!........wow, the garden is looking beautiful.....keep teaching and spreading the love my friend.....
Thank you Rick! As always your kind words and encouragement mean the world to me! :) I have been trying to learn the art of "focused rambling" lol, so at least i'm learning to stay somewhat on topic and not get as distracted by anything shiny in my way. HAha! I hope all is well my friend! Your orchids are looking amazing!
Hey Jeff! Thanks for showing the vanilla bean orchid (that was me that asked about it). It was actually the very first vid of yours I watched - the one that got me hooked to your videos! 😂 Glad to see it's doing well. Also it's insane to see the growth on that palm, only 2 videos ago it was just sprouting new shoots! - Catherine
Hi Catherine! I'm glad you reminded me to do an update with it. And just now reminding me that i need to rotate it again because the heat wave is back and im so worried it will cook! I should have just gotten a regular one without the variegation! ... but not as pretty
My vote: put the palm in the big pot and get something spilley to go over the edges.... get blue and green shallow pots of different heights for the cactus's and put them back where they are (they look nice there against that wall). Now with that said and in all good faith... you should be aware that I know diddly squat about palms and/or cacti. That's it, that's all.
Im so torn! lol... pretty much everyone voted for the cactus and succulents, but ive been looking and can't find anything big enough for the palm that i like and is also remotely affordable. Then it doesn't help that i remembered i have a big Pygmy date palm that also needs a new pot... too many decisions!
I'd put the desert plants in the light weight pot to bring in in winter..but I would maybe bury it half way in the ground so it would not be tippy....and buy a pot I Loved.... for the palm.
i was thinking about burying it also, partially just for aesthetics, but there are drains in the ground there, so could only bury it a few inches, may not be worth the effort. We will see! i found, and bought some amazing shallow bowl planters the other day. Not big enough for the large cactus and agaves, but i think will work well for some other things to put near it.
I noticed your BOP has some red orange markings on it Is this normal? I just bought two BOP and I was hesitant because I’ve been dealing with blight and fungal issues on philodendrons. Now I’m suspicious of every spot on a leaf. Are some spots normal on the BOP? Some of the younger leaves have these orange spots but i don’t believe it’s rust, the plant is otherwise healthy and bumping up in leaves. Please someone help
C. Bar same here! & when Sam's doesn't have it, I just get it on sale at lowes for like $12 or $13. People like to hate on miracle grow, but for the price imo it's the best option from what I have been able to try.
I Love your plant rambles, and thank you for the fireworks, only ones I saw....also looking forward to aquaponics up date....funny story... I occationally add a teaspoon full of Diatomatious earth in a glass of water and pour 1/3 into 3... 10 gal. Planted tanks....note to self.... Never store your powdered sugar and your D.E. powder in the same area....yep....changed water in 3 tanks in 20 mins....fish are fine. Laughing at self.
Hey You! So sorry it took me so long to respond, for some weird reason this comment was in the spam section which i only check every few weeks... idk why youtube thought this was spam! Weird! Oh no! You put powdered sugar in the fish tank!? Well at least they have all had thorough water changes now! What a disaster that must have been to have to deal with unexpectedly! I have never put the DE directly into my tanks before, but have occasionally put it into my pleated micron filter pads to polish up the water when the main filter isn't pulling its weight. All of my tanks are in need of water changes, but the water pressure isn't enough all of the sudden to siphon water using the python water changer... i could just use a hose and buckets, but they are massive tanks, would take forever to use buckets to water change a 300 gallon saltwater and a 150 freshwater... need to just get a new faucet i think. ...always something! lol!
Those sweet potato vines blow me away. Calm down, guys! You can't go in the pool! I would go with more palms! Which is so surprising because I love succulents and cacti but you always have such good looking palms! I mean all your plants are fabulous but I love the whole tropical look. Also, I've noticed that a lot of the potting mixes seem to retain a lot of water, even the ones that claim to prevent soggy soil. It rains so much here in the summer that I'm finding so many plants that are just....drowning. Even my cactus mix is retaining too much water and it's so irritating. That Sago is out of control too. He took summer to heart and said, "I got this, fam." Can you guys grow coonties in your zone? They grow really well here and they're like the nice Sago. They don't get that hard and stiff. Plus an added bonus ....they look like dinosaur food. Who doesn't like prehistoric plants that look like a Brontosaurus would munch on? Samsung scares me. I still have my old Galaxy 5 and would love to get an update but I don't trust the new ones. Maybe I'm turning into one of those old buggery people who is afraid of technology. I guess I'm gonna have to get a Jitterbug. I just love your palms. I live in Florida and palms are a dime a dozen but yours look really, really nice. We have Chinese Fan Palms EVERYWHERE. You could trip over them when you go to the store. Ride or die plant party.
HAHA! They are growing like crazy! Those poor petunias are just being smothered, but is what it is, next year i'll just stick with the potato vines but i'll use a dark and light variety for contrast and color. I love how palms look too, but the votes are definetly leaning for me to do the desert planter. No big deal though, i have 3 large palms that all need new pots, so there will be plenty of palm planter videos to come! I've also noticed the soils holding onto moisture for a long time. I like to see it drain out at almost the same speed it is going in, and thats hard to pull off without just amending it. I'm glad the sago got its' ass in gear this year because last year it did nothing! ... which is my fault, needed a new pot, new soil and more sun... my bad! I was busy! lol. I was relieved when it starting pushing out new growth, i've it since i was a teenager, and it is so big! Would cost a fortune to buy a new one as large. No coonties, but i want some! One grower had some this year, but they were tiny and $50 wholesale! Neither one is hardy here, but there have been studies and reports of coonties and sagos coming back from the ground in zone 6 if mulched very heavily. I love how coonites look, i still am keeping an out for some! No you are right about your samsung. I got this new S8 active last summer, and it is nowhere as good as the S6 i had before it. The only reason i even got it is because the s6 only had 32gb of memory on it and i could put an sd card in it for more space. So i got the new one soley so i could put an sd card in it. Having someone in Florida tell me that they like my palms is a huge compliment, thank you! HAHAHA... Ride or Die! lol!
Hi I was just checking out your video, I have a bird of paradise plant outside on my patio, it's supposed to be like a rescue and I understand is perennial, have one leaf left on it is still green, what can you recommend do I need to just cut it all the way back and hope it come back next spring coming?
Hello, Michelle! What growing zone are you in? If it has a leaf I'd leave it and maybe tie it to a steak for stability so it doesn't flop around in the wind too much. Every bit of green helps the plant grow so unless it is a bad or infected leaf it's a good idea to leave it until the plant starts putting on new growth. 😁
I agree! Though if the cactus weren't in that spot, i probably wouldn't put anything else there because it gets so hot against that wall. Also!... I found some awesome shallow bowl planters on clearance... so im really torn because i put it to a vote and i may go a whole different direction! lol. ... i think i know a solution though, just need to iron out the details.
lol, Thank you! The average view duration overall on my channel is only about 5min. So that means the majority of people watch my vids click away within 5 minutes... I talk too much! lol.
Wow, no kidding to the watch time!! That's crazy. I must be in the minority... I prefer longer videos! I can sit there and watch/listen while I work... You don't talk too much at all!
Oh yeah...the Espoma plant tone does stink bad, I didn’t even put in in my storage room cause of the stink, plus the 3 semi feral cats 😻 (that I feed 🤫) like to sleep in my storage room at night when it gets super chilly or super hot. Plus the cats like digging up my plants cause of the smell, must be like the manure smell 🤭in there I just have both Espoma plant tone and Bio tone stay out in the corner of the yard in the shade, cause of the smell. Anyways...happy planting 😝

SHARON SHORT' Orchids and Garden ha! I do the same with miracle grow, when it goes on sale I try and stock up, even if it is only a couple of dollars off. There is another I really like called fafard. It is really great stuff, but it's a few dollars more and the bags are smaller so I only use it for very special plants. My epidendrums are potted straight into it and doing wonderfully!... don't tell anyone I put my epidendrums in pure potting soil! Lol, they'll have my head for that! Haha

Desert planter. :D I like your Vlogs. I think part of the reason is because I can relate to some of your thought processes, experimenting, etc. ;) Are you a landscape designer? I can't believe all you do in your garden, amazing. Have a great day :)
Thank you! I used to think i should leave the though-processes out of the vlogs bc they are long and it's just a lot of talking. However people ask how i come up with ideas and design plans so i figured i may as well bring everyone along for the ride that is my indecisive and overly complicated mind. lol. my background and formal education is in psychology and research. :)
Yeah, I can be indecisive also but I always think that's part of having a creative analytical mind, and being a libra :D Are you a Libra? hehe Also, that's an interesting background, very cool.
Chinese fan palms are everywhere this year (ha) I spent all day looking for them where they were earlier this year. Kicking myself for not buying them when I had the chance.😭😭😭
Where do you guys live that Chinese fan Palms are everywhere? I live in Indiana. This makes me sad. I used to live in Key West. Born and raised. Isn't that like zone 11? Yeah...I never gave a damn about plants until guess when? After I moved from the tropics to Indiana zone 5a. 🎶🎶 Don't know what ya got 'til it's gone...
My pink sky petunias upped and died on me too and I’ve never had that happen before. I’ve had petunias struggle but not give up the ghost like the pink sky did.
exactly! The supertunia vista bubble gums all look ok, despite being choked out by the potato vines, lol, but that is it, just about all the others just rotted from the heat and rain... oh well! like you said, can't control the weather.
thank you! I've tried pro-mix and it didn't really work for me, drained too fast for the soil to saturate when using my drip emmiters, i like it though, great soil!
Fortify it with some worm castings to help bulk it up and add some nutrients. Seems like Miracle Grow is a grab bag, never know what you''re going to get in a bag of that stuff. But whatever you're doing works, so keep it up!
Kathy Macomber wondering the same actually... not only because of the depth and soil moisture control(which I can work around and fix) but might just look weird... the problem is that those cactus are so big, to put them in a bowl or shallow planter, it would need to be a minimum 12 inches deep. Even the largest bowls I'm finding are only about 10inches deep, which makes them 30 inches wide(diameter)..and oh my goodness are they expensive! Why are big & shallow bowl planters hundreds of dollars!? That's just craziness!
I think you’re talking weird because you’re a bit on the gay side. Jk. Jk. I don’t care. Just being a wise ass. Love the garden. Especially the palms and Strelitzia - favorite plant. That pool tho. Omg. Jelly! Plant some bananers! Love them as well.
🙄 Why exactly did you click on it when the length is right there on the screen? Do you stick your hand in a fire then whine and complain about it being hot? Says right in the title that this video is a VLOG. I'd suggest you make your own channel and your own videos instead of clicking on mine where you can clearly see the length beforehand and then being an asshole over something you were aware of when you got into it. There's a pandemic going on and you're trolling the internet spreading your rude and entitled negativity. You should be ashamed of yourself.
awesome video on your tropical garden and your bird of paradise👍👍
well thank you!

You got a nice piece of mini tropical jungle in you yard. Keep it up.
Thank you!
Are you supposed to trim off those bent stems from the birds of paradise?? I have a birds of paradise that I accidentally bumped into with my mattress (long story-moving furniture nyc apartment) Now I have three bent stems. Am I supposed to cut those off because they’re broken?
if they are still green, you can leave them, but it wont hurt to cut them off either as long as the plant still has other leaves.
Spindle palms are everywhere there were many of them @ home depot in Wisconsin along with Christmas palms this summer.
Su flores son extraordinarias

Oh, and desert planter gets my vote 👍
Hi Catherine! I'm glad you reminded me to do an update with it. And just now reminding me that i need to rotate it again because the heat wave is back and im so worried it will cook! I should have just gotten a regular one without the variegation! ... but not as pretty
You can plant in here a croton with the adonidia. It will shine in this black pot
never settle, go big !

Sounds beautiful. Isn't it fun o put an idea out there and see what the vortex comes up with to suprise you.
I vote for the cactus planter! It sounds like you'll have to get something bigger for the palm anyway so I would get it now...
I noticed your BOP has some red orange markings on it

The fans blowing on the plants is seriously funny! I must say I have never seen fans outdoors on gardens! Too funny! 😀 🎆💖True saying!
Oh I love my outdoor fan!

@@TropicalPlantParty they in Kenton Ohio I do believe my zone is 6..
Oh ok. Bird of paradise is only perennial in zones 8b and warmer. So in zone 6 will need to be grown as houseplant.
@@TropicalPlantParty okay as a houseplant is there any chance that I can still start new growth if I bring it in and put it under a grow light?
I vote for making that a cactus planter and go big for the palm, maybe you can find a clearance planter if your lucky!
I’d put the cactus in the pot. It’s a tropical yard. They take up too much real estate in the ground where you can
Have more tropicals.
Love to you!

Will cactus mix soil work for BoP?
Not everyone stays until the end of your videos? I enjoy listening/watching your videos until the end... two thumbs up from me!

Thank you!
Succulents is the way to go.
What is the watering care for the bird of paradise plant?
My choice in garden/potting mix was definitely LAMBERT and I'd refused to use anything else. Home Depot stopped selling LAMBERT (and so did Lowes), which is based in Canada and switched to Miracle Grow, which I do not like but have no choice...Rode and died..😀😀
lol, rode and died! You're so funny Sharon! I remember the Lambert mix, i loved that so much! I feel kind of the same with the miracle grow, it's not my preference, but for me and the amount of mix i buy every year, it is my main option. :/
Tropical Plant Party absolutely...we gotta do what we gotta do! 😏
Between us, I only buy miracle grow potting mix on sale...refuse to pay full price and now, I find myself buying any brand that's on sale or cheaper...nothing compares to LAMBERT...
Haha
Tropical Plant Party Cool... Epidendrums are hardy....down here, they'll grow in anything.
Go with your heart, if you want to do a desert scape planter go for it.
WHERE DID YOU GET THE DOLPHIN FOUNTAIN FOR YOUR POOL?
Hello! It is a from a local place outside of St. Louis... I will try to remember to look it up tomorrow to see if I have the manufacturers name for the fountain. 😊
Thank you. Its AWESOME!
Am I seeing coconuts on that tree??? 👀👀👀 excuse me if I'm wrong... I'm new at this.
Chinese fan palms are everywhere this year (ha) I spent all day looking for them where they were earlier this year. Kicking myself for not buying them when I had the chance.😭😭😭
lol, well yeah, earlier in the year, they were everywhere. At least here they were. :/

My pink sky petunias upped and died on me too and I’ve never had that happen before. I’ve had petunias struggle but not give up the ghost like the pink sky did.
I was surprised, i planted nearly a dozen, in all different areas, every single one just vanished! They apparently don't like heat! lol.
My vote is for a desert planter.
My Petunias all rotted this year... extreme heat then extreme rain then extreme heat... Dead as can be! I had no control over weather
exactly! The supertunia vista bubble gums all look ok, despite being choked out by the potato vines, lol, but that is it, just about all the others just rotted from the heat and rain... oh well! like you said, can't control the weather.
Need a big pot check it out at the Dollar General?
put the cactus in the pot, and find something bigger for the palm
Cati definitely
Plant sunflowers in the pot.🌻
lol, that is the only spot i have that gets enough sun for sunflowers!
Cactus and succulents
Succulent plants please. Would love to see the combination!
Use Pro-Mix, not Miracle it Grows! Nice video, by the way.
The pot is too deep for Cactus
Kathy Macomber wondering the same actually... not only because of the depth and soil moisture control(which I can work around and fix) but might just look weird... the problem is that those cactus are so big, to put them in a bowl or shallow planter, it would need to be a minimum 12 inches deep. Even the largest bowls I'm finding are only about 10inches deep, which makes them 30 inches wide(diameter)..and oh my goodness are they expensive! Why are big & shallow bowl planters hundreds of dollars!? That's just craziness!
I see your problem 😩
and i put it up to a vote, so i'm kinda stuck now. lol.
I think you’re talking weird because you’re a bit on the gay side. Jk. Jk. I don’t care. Just being a wise ass.
Love the garden. Especially the palms and Strelitzia - favorite plant. That pool tho. Omg. Jelly!
Plant some bananers! Love them as well.
31 minutes?? Nope. You should be getting through all this in like 5 or 6
🙄 Why exactly did you click on it when the length is right there on the screen? Do you stick your hand in a fire then whine and complain about it being hot? Says right in the title that this video is a VLOG. I'd suggest you make your own channel and your own videos instead of clicking on mine where you can clearly see the length beforehand and then being an asshole over something you were aware of when you got into it. There's a pandemic going on and you're trolling the internet spreading your rude and entitled negativity. You should be ashamed of yourself.
