What happened to the embedded reporters and cameramen on board who then jump overboard outside the heads. They would catch the upclose drama. All we got was a couple of geriatrics who could only marvel that women now competed in the race! Worse coverage ever.
Thos was the most abysmal coverage of the beginning of this race I have seen. The big boats were hardy shown. The footage stayed away from the race leaders after the first turn and didnt cover the sail issue Law Connect was having but stayed on the minor boats at the first mark. It was terrible to watch.
Wow, what an incredible start to the Sydney Hobart race in 2024! The energy and excitement are palpable as the boats set off on this challenging and prestigious race. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds. Thanks for sharing this thrilling replay!
Some asking about Black said Black sails are often used in Sydney to Hobart races due to their UV-resistant properties. Carbon or Kevlar laminates are UV-stable, which reduces wear over the course of a long race, and these materials are typically black.
The colour and UV stability makes little difference in a race like this. It’s not long enough for decay to be a factor (even though they probably have other sails for delivery). Carbon is stronger for its weight than other sail cloth, so carbon is a preferred material.
One of the worst if not the worst coverage by Nine of this sports event. No reporters or camera men on the boats, no commentary of any substance with one commentating without fail stating when he named a yacht that it had a real chance of the handicap win. So so bad. Bring back channel seven coverage.
Seems like we are watching amateur hour racing after being spoilt by Americas Cup earlier…this is slow motion stuff…even a stiff breeze isn’t helping these boats produce much…still, I suppose it matches the pedestrian commentary.

The big ocean racing tri foilers would smash that with reasonable conditions. 😊 Holcrim-prb a single handed foiling imoca did 579 miles in 24 hours just a month ago, it also holds the crewed 24hr distance record at 640.48 miles.
Poorest telecast of the Sydney to Hobart start I have had the misfortune to watch, channel 9 hasn't a clue, couple of grey hair old farts giving a geriatric commentary
@thethirdman225 he is past it. It took him 2 minutes at the end of last years race to realise Law Connect was moving across to steal Andos wind. An obvious move that he finally grasped.
@@stevekiberd3474 There might have been more. I don’t know. It was the first time I’ve missed it in decades due to a family emergency. I suppose if you look at the the RSHYA website, you can get the start lists from other years. You could well be right. I think they’ve had as many as five. I seem to remember one year it was Wild Oats XI, Law Connect, Comanche, Scallywag and Ragamuffin 100 but that was a few years ago now. Black Jack is another that has made occasional appearances. Wild Thing has had so many mods it doesn’t know what it is.
Great analysis, thank you! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?

Where’s the advertising money to pay for it?

100 boats in the race , over 600 NM to go . Hard to show that many boats after they are hundreds of NM into the race
Everyone’s a critic.

When I was a kid this used to be interesting
Gordon Bray's Ch9 debut making his 4th FTA network he appeared

You provide the money and I’m sure they’ll oblige.
Some rookie mistake on law connect today painfully apparent to all.
Pretty easy to do on a boat that size. It looks simple enough from the shore…

What's with all the black sails?????
That's what I was going to ask. An ominous sort of look.
@@Mar--Mar I think you will find they are made of carbon fibre which is naturally black. Very strong, tough and light sails. ( and dam expensive)

Carbon sailcloth. Stronger for its weight than most other fabrics.
The race should have stop to show respect for the two sailors I think and for the two families. Thats my opinion.
600 miles in 20hrs? That isn't going to happen. The IMOCA foiler's aren't even doing that

@ Yeah well, everyone’s a critic. He’s never impressed me but I make mistakes too.
@thethirdman225 Fortunately, I have never made a mistake. I've just learned a lesson.
No foiling imocas?
I would love to see a current foiling imoca smash the course record.😊
Not many Maxi's this year?
There are three 100 footers. That’s about normal.
@@thethirdman225 Ah ok ty, I just seem to remember more last year
