Can we just talk about how Sara gets SO into this song every time I see her play it? I think this is such an underrated song of hers, and I really love her passion cuz I feel like I don't see that much passion in her with too many songs. But she always rocks this song out.

@BREEPxoo not sure how she meant it, but i was thinking of the distinction being that california was the first state where the legislature proactively passed a law allowing it, instead of a court ordering it? so technically the first place where the "representatives of the people" made it happen?
Three years later, its amazing Prop 8 passed, and a relief that ultimately justice prevailed when it was over-turned. Tegan was completely right...in the future California will be remembered for taking this long overdue step.
Canada has had same-sex marriage since 2005!!! They were the 3rd in the world to legalize it after the Netherlands and Belgium. Gays have been allowed to serve in their military since 1992!!! Its time the "Land of the Free" gave equal freedom to all its citizens.

DITTO. for real. i remember having a conversation with a group of canadian teenagers at the back in your head video shoot, and they didn't KNOW that gay people couldn't get married in the U.S., and thought it was totally ridiculous when i told them we couldn't. oh, to grow up in a world where it's all just so NORMAL!

I am straight, but I agree with TnS: It is so digsusting that there is so much racism and cruelty and hate in our world, and I definitely protest against prop 8 because that's just not fair. I have several disabilities and that's like telling me I can't get married because of them. So unfair.
Um...but the performance was amazing :) Sara was very passionate.

i know. :( but, the CA supreme court HAS agreed to hear the case... they were the ones who ruled in our favor the first time... so there is a little bit of hope...

Dude, that's just ridiculous. They talked about Prop 8 at every show they did, and had a booth for the anti Prop 8 people at their shows. Tegan went to every Prop 8 march in L.A. after the election. They posted to their website, Facebook, Myspace, and email list about voting on the amendment several times before the election, and about every protest that happened after. Tegan worked Rock the Vote the day of the election calling voters.
Tell you what if your friend is so confused on the issues I'LL debate him...
LOL... plus, if you've ever seen them fight each other, I'm sure you KNOW they have no problem debating someone with an opposing view... and I'm quite sure either of them would be ready to take on anybody about Prop 8, ESPECIALLY Tegan, given how strongly they both feel about it.
Anyway... it's rare these days that anyone gets to talk to them at ALL, let alone take up enough of their time to have a full out debate. I think your friend was asking for a bit much, and shouldn't be surprised.

well... there was a proposed amendment to the california constitution that was voted on in november and passed, which changed the definition of "marriage" in the CA constitution to be a union between a man and a woman. however, the california supreme court just heard arguments about whether the amendment can stand... so at the moment, no, gay people can't get married in CA. there were many many who did, and those are still valid. and in the future... we'll see. there's a chance though.

Sure, they COULD have made it up, but there would be no reason for them to do that, they're in front of a crowd who already support them and their views... and that's serious stuff, T&S wouldn't exactly be the type to make that up.
And really, I've never had one of my comments posted either. Like I said, they just get too many. As for the blocking, well, rather than avoiding debate, they're probably just avoiding drama. Arguing with people online rarely gets you anywhere...
i'm sorry? i don't quite follow. are you suggesting that tegan and sara made up someone yelling homophobic comments at them? for what purpose?? not to mention that they seemed genuinely upset about the whole thing. who would make that up?
as for asking them to debate on their myspace, they don't respond to ANYONE who messages them... they simply get too many messages. trust me, i'm sure either one of them would be more than willing to debate the marriage topic... and would probably win.

Still, from what I've heard, in Sara's case that's just not true. But you were talking about Tegan right? Um, like I said you might be right but ONLY because she tries to avoid drama. But she has talked about a couple "debates" she's had in the past with people after a show, I don't think its something anyone wants to deal with at a show, and I don't think its smart, you can't really go there, EVERYONE will start trying to do that. It could get outta hand, fast!

I'm thinking that's far more than most other people did to oppose the amendment. Not to mention the fact that they're not even American and CAN marry in their own country, but are doing all this anyway. Not active? If that's your opinion, then your opinion certainly isn't a very informed one.
