I bought my Up! after watching your review (one of the first on youtube) about 6 years ago. Still love my Up! Haven't found anything else that is cheap and cheerful with such character. Thanks Bob.
Fantastic little car. I'm from Brazil and I have one(the engine here is bifuel, you can use Ethanol or Gasoline, or the mixture of both in every proportion you want). I've made 26km/l in 100% gasoline, on the road, fifth gear and A/C off. The chassi is wonderful, the steering responds quickly and the structure is solid. Great amount of power(in the limitations of a 999cm3 engine, of course), great acceleration. It's a fun car, definitely. Strongly recommended. VW engineers, congratulations!!
how did you get 3.8l/100km? I've been doing pulse and glide (accelerate and coast, so the engine is only in use about 30% of the time you spend driving) in my Toyota Aygo and I'm getting 3.7l/100km... I think the Up! has slightly better economy then the Aygo anyway but i'm just curious if you're doing anything special to get your economy to 3.8l/100km. I'm pretty new to this but im absolutely amazed that you can save so much fuel just by changing your driving style, I had coasted in Euro truck simulator to see if it worked and it improved economy of the truck from 8mpg to 14mpg. when I first got my car I did a bit of pulse and glide driving but just thought it was a waste of time until I got my Scan Gauge and just saw how much of a difference it made! I normally got 5.5l/100km (50mpg) and like I said I get 3.7l/100km (76mpg)
great review, lost count of the amount of times I've watched it deciding whether to buy one or not, i finally bought a 63 plate move up and absolutely love it, can't believe how good the ride quality is for a small car.
I bought a new 2016 Seat Mii in March and 5 Months and 10,500 miles later it still puts a hell of a smile on my face. Amazing car's these are! Can't wait to drive the new facelift when the Seat gets it.
I had a test drive on your recommendation. Absolutely delighted with the car, one of the best small cars I have driven. Now I have ordered the same model for delivery in January. Roll on January. Thanks for posting.
just bought this as my first-ish car, had my mums Nissan Micra for 1 year after i passed my test. got this high up for £99 a month for 4 years! i cant wait to pick her up on Wednesday!
I have an Up! In South Africa we don't get the navigation screen, would love to have that. I must say it's the best car I've ever owned. Just will never get rid of it. It's SO perfect.
Picking up my new take UP! blue motion right from the Autostadt in Wolfsburg in a month. So looking forward to it and reviews like this one make me even more excited.
love your review on the up, been thinking of the skoda citigo which i knows the same. have you driven the suzuki alto? dont seem to have done a review on that? whats your thoughts?
I just had my 2013 up remapped from 60bhp to 80 bhp, what a difference it has made it's smoother and faster through the gears and it pulls 5th gear without the need to change down the gears so much. A real improvement from the original mapping.
Who remapped it? and how much did it cost if you dont mind me asking! i have a 75hp up and I would like to get some more power if possible, I did read unless your car has a turbo its no good remapping it. Thanks
Not on my test car, there were no steering wheel mounted controls. There are controls on the radio and on the optional touch screen. It wasn't a big hassle skipping songs though.
Decided to get this car but getting cold feet: will it be too small etc. Of all the videos reviews I have seen this one does it for me. Bob is great and tells it from the drivers perspective. I have played this video several times and will probably do so many more times before taking delivery of the little car. Great review Bob and your personality adds to it, cheers.
Great video, great presenter and a great car!! I really really want this car, and hopefully in a couple of years time I can! It reminds me of my little classic mini I have now, tonnes of space inside (compared to the small dimensions of the car) and it has a great personality.
The Seat Mii has standard and optional sport suspension. Does the car in the test have a sport suspension or standard? Perhaps standard Up! is harder than standard Mii? I ask this because, allegedly, Mii standard suspension has noticeably body roll. Not according to this test. Thanks.
Yup... I have sat in both tote citigo and UP... The interior is a lot better quality and nicer looking in the UP... It is at least here in Denmark... I can see the packages in England are a lot different, so it could be the English versions are different to what I have seen over here... I ordered an Move Up yesterday :-D
We're getting one next saturday. I'm really hoping dealer makes a nice offer for the 75 hp version, 60 seems so little... We'll be driving motorways as well, so then the extra 15 hp would be nice :)
I like how immediately after he says this is german's Fiat 500, the car tells him he's going too fast. Yeah, well... he's not wrong. But if you can't turn that off, there's nothing that can convince me to buy it.
i bought this one for my wife (move up, brand new), beautiful car in every sense, strongly recommended! i am 40 yo male, so car not for me, i drive Audi A6, but this Up is really fantastic as nicely presented here.
Just finished testing the Citigo and it's just as good as the Up, it might be a little better because I like the leather steering wheel, the three spoke one. Best of luck with it.
Exellent review, Based on this we bought one, an up! black and as you say , its BRILLIANT. Makes the M Sport BMW we had feel old and very outdated. Gone down market, DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!
They already have the GT UP! in the works. It something like a 1.0ltr turbo with 109bhp looks pretty good. I will probably be getting one once I've finished with the up I have now
I believe the one I had has standard suspension, I didn't detect any unusual body roll during testing. I haven't driving the Mii yet but seeing as it's basically the same car I don't expect much body roll there either, I mean they aren't track cars or anything so testing them on a roundabout is as far as it goes. Sports suspension on nearly any car ruins the ride
I think it's brilliant too, like all VWs. very good on details. Here in Portugal i saw only two or three on the roads since launch -People here prefer for city cars a c1/107/aygo, a 500 or a used/new smart f2 (and there's a lot of them) -Due to economical crysis and higher taxes, new car sales falls almost to 50% -Even in basic version, for the price (almost 11000 euros), much people prefer an supermini (new with discounts, used or with less than 6 months of usage) or buy a superior used car
It's not really possible to test city safe unless you try to have a crash or set something up to crash into and that wouldn't be covered by insurance. I tried the Ford version and it works fine, I'm sure it being a VW it'll work perfectly.
Well then the dealer lied to me! Haha. I ordered my up! on the 11th, with every option box ticked except for the side skirts. I'm finally going to take delivery in 3 days time. It was a very slow ship......
75hp is definately 'sufficient' for the up! i mean come on remember the days nearly every golf/bora only had a 75hp 1.4 to pull it around... great review man, keep it up!
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the Up! The TomTom unit is a matter of taste, I don't have a problem with it and I've had it in a few cars. 2 The datalog should be standard if you got the Tom Tom unit, ask your dealer. It's on the home screen and Car info in the test cars. 3 There never was in any of the versions of the Up. 4 I'm afraid there's only 1 Stratos. 5. It is in nearly every car. 6. Again I had no problem with lights or vision. 7. No problem here either. 8,9, MX5 FTW
would you say that the UP is a good adversary for the fiat 500? I am not too sure I like the inside of the UP, but the outside is pretty damn nice. I wonder whether they'll make a sportsy version similar to the fiath 500 abarth, would make the market more interesting, I don't really see any small car at the moment to compare with the AWESOME abarth.
Hmm! :( Not sold in Canada! But i'm mainly impress by your comment" Sound so positive. Since long time i've not heard superb comments on VW products. I hope one ............. day we will have that UP in Canada.
Great review! :-) I actually have a car like this (VW up! black). It's funny that my previous one was a midnight blue Rover 75 2.0 V6 (called it "Beauty Queen of England). :-)
mg rover were bought by nanjing auto corporation in china, they're making rovers under the name roewe (chinese pronounciation of rover) in china and are selling MG in china and the uk. the 1.4l K series engine in my rover is pretty solid and doesnt suffer from the well known headgasket issues, it was such a good engine that it was used in caterhams and lotus elises (105bhp from a 1.4l is still good today)
+ThatIrishLad hey buddy a 5 door High Up ASG... my last car was a Bentley GT but had a change in financial circumstances! like lots of things about the up! I'm used to an auto box but to avoid those flat spots I think I'm going to have to try driving tiptronically... can't believe for a £12,700 model there is no light in the boot!!
Abarth are a tuning company that go mad with the Fiat brand stuff. They make some mental cars, most of them are brilliant but hugely costly for such small cars. VW don't use a tuner, they make their own fast cars with GTI and such, I do hope they do a GTI version of the Up because it would be crazy, wasn't there a GTO Lupo or did I dream that?
I bought my Up! after watching your review (one of the first on youtube) about 6 years ago. Still love my Up! Haven't found anything else that is cheap and cheerful with such character. Thanks Bob.
great review Bob. Actually test drove and ordered an Up after watching this.

Great little car. I got Skoda's version, and it is SO good. I've had it over 2 years, with zero complaints. Love it!
just bought this as my first-ish car, had my mums Nissan Micra for 1 year after i passed my test. got this high up for £99 a month for 4 years! i cant wait to pick her up on Wednesday!
And ????? How was it ? Planning on getting one ! :) :)

Another great review I drove one today & there great fantastic car ,small outside huge inside & loads of fun.
Had a test drive yesterday in the UP!, such a funny car to drive, everything about it is great.
Me too! My mum just bought one to replace her KA lol. Gets it Thursday.
I've bought a high up in blue looking forward to getting it !
Good choice! Best of luck with it
Picking up my new take UP! blue motion right from the Autostadt in Wolfsburg in a month. So looking forward to it and reviews like this one make me even more excited.
Picked it up on the 16th January, delighted with it, great little car.
Yes, I mentioned that in the review. This is the German version of a 500 but more solid.
Love your reviews man! Great fun!
Yeah we bought Take Up for my Dad. Really feels big on the inside and was quite quick and grand on the motorway. My Dad loves it......
I've gone and bought one ..
really good little car especially for a student .
love your review on the up, been thinking of the skoda citigo which i knows the same. have you driven the suzuki alto? dont seem to have done a review on that? whats your thoughts?

Just amazes me how fun the UP! Is to drive its sounds like a miniature 911 can't wait to see the UP! GT.
Excellent review, possible replacement for my Audi A2 when it dies.
Great video, great presenter and a great car!! I really really want this car, and hopefully in a couple of years time I can! It reminds me of my little classic mini I have now, tonnes of space inside (compared to the small dimensions of the car) and it has a great personality.
terrific clip, car just seems to be a total package and presenter has a wonderful sense of humor.
Nice quirky review... Thank you!
The Seat Mii has standard and optional sport suspension. Does the car in the test have a sport suspension or standard? Perhaps standard Up! is harder than standard Mii? I ask this because, allegedly, Mii standard suspension has noticeably body roll. Not according to this test. Thanks.
I bought an 2013 asg up. White. Good mpgs and nice overall. The only bad thing is the asg slow shifts.
Yup... I have sat in both tote citigo and UP... The interior is a lot better quality and nicer looking in the UP... It is at least here in Denmark... I can see the packages in England are a lot different, so it could be the English versions are different to what I have seen over here...
I ordered an Move Up yesterday :-D
Nice review, did you try out the city stop on it?
Enjoyed your excellent video several times. And ordered a red Citigo (a lot cheaper than up!). Thanks a lot for your review.
Great review!
Love Ireland great little country
We're getting one next saturday. I'm really hoping dealer makes a nice offer for the 75 hp version, 60 seems so little... We'll be driving motorways as well, so then the extra 15 hp would be nice :)
your face driving this is hillarious a typical boy with this toy..happy out haha..well done on another great review :)
I like how immediately after he says this is german's Fiat 500, the car tells him he's going too fast. Yeah, well... he's not wrong. But if you can't turn that off, there's nothing that can convince me to buy it.
What should be my target price for this model with auto transmission?
I saw a Dutch test drive and it was dubbed and he said that when the Up! broke down, it would be known as the Fucked Up!.
has anyone had problems with the clutch or gearbox
i bought this one for my wife (move up, brand new), beautiful car in every sense, strongly recommended! i am 40 yo male, so car not for me, i drive Audi A6, but this Up is really fantastic as nicely presented here.
+srbjbt ...
I am a 49 yr old male...and car deffo for me :-)
Just finished testing the Citigo and it's just as good as the Up, it might be a little better because I like the leather steering wheel, the three spoke one. Best of luck with it.
I'll get mine next week cannot wait
Thanks very much and good luck with the new car!
Well done Malcolm, I'm sure you'll set a new trend!
which do you think is better, this or the kia picanto ??
Exellent review, Based on this we bought one, an up! black and as you say , its BRILLIANT. Makes the M Sport BMW we had feel old and very outdated. Gone down market, DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!
@blackdubsociety what do you mean by by fashion accessory?
They already have the GT UP! in the works. It something like a 1.0ltr turbo with 109bhp looks pretty good. I will probably be getting one once I've finished with the up I have now

great review Bob! by the way...didn´t you like the song Up! at 8:08 ;) ?
Please tell me that annoying beware sound can be turned off?
Gringo Tom YES! 😆
a fabulous piece of kit, love it
Thanks and duly noted.
I find it amazing that your 11 year old Rover is still on the road! Well done
i find it amazing that my 11 year old rover 25 has a lot of the boasting points that he talked about for this car
Thanks very much!
It's brilliant, you'll be seeing a lot more of it.
Would be nice if You drove the 60 HP base version..................nice they gave You the top spec........
@Smokerspack Where did you get the profile name it's in no way related it what you produce. Still I like it keep posting
That's very brave of you! I hope you're enjoying it?
What are these cars like in the real world? Im thinking of getting one??
I think it's brilliant too, like all VWs. very good on details.
Here in Portugal i saw only two or three on the roads since launch

-Even in basic version, for the price (almost 11000 euros), much people prefer an supermini (new with discounts, used or with less than 6 months of usage) or buy a superior used car
They are produced in the same factory. Why would be interior quality of Mii or Citigo worse?

Thank you!
I wish they'd make the UP GT
I wonder where they got the idea if painted metal the same colour of the car from ( the fiat 500).
Well then the dealer lied to me! Haha. I ordered my up! on the 11th, with every option box ticked except for the side skirts. I'm finally going to take delivery in 3 days time. It was a very slow ship......
What a great review!

great review man, keep it up!
This car is really great, i have in my rent a car company, and i am preety sure of buying myself one. Volkswagen really does make great cars
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the Up! This is d true successor of d beetle of yester years gud job vw never thot woukd praise them after all their recent boxes ....
I used to own a 97 Carina that only had 85bhp from a 1.6ltr engine...those were the days
Yes it is, I'm a big G-Shock fan I've had loads and broke none :D
I would love for it to reach north America, but I doubt VW will bring it. unless they market it as a fashion accessory like the 500.
@Bob Flavin! Do you think this car will make it to the US market? (Fingers Crossed) XI
I still really like this car, I want one
Hmm! :( Not sold in Canada!
But i'm mainly impress by your comment" Sound so positive. Since long time i've not heard superb comments on VW products.
I hope one ............. day we will have that UP in Canada.
I'm looking forward to that too
Perfect for a first time driver, easy to park, only 5 gears and cheap to run/tax/insure.
Good review! 75 horses in the car and lots of cows out there!
Great review! :-) I actually have a car like this (VW up! black). It's funny that my previous one was a midnight blue Rover 75 2.0 V6 (called it "Beauty Queen of England). :-)
Thanks kindly, I do like my toys. I might be getting on a bit but I've the heart of a teenager :)
mg rover were bought by nanjing auto corporation in china, they're making rovers under the name roewe (chinese pronounciation of rover) in china and are selling MG in china and the uk. the 1.4l K series engine in my rover is pretty solid and doesnt suffer from the well known headgasket issues, it was such a good engine that it was used in caterhams and lotus elises (105bhp from a 1.4l is still good today)
No problem, anytime!
the only thing i didenth like is that you cant turn of the esp
This car looks like great fun, and a great car!
So you like it then Bob?
Man this guys accent is hilarious! I love the irish lilt!
They have compromised as there are no indicator repeaters in the mirrors and you can't open the passenger window from the drivers side!
agreed but still good
+ThatIrishLad now I've just bought one!!! Pick it up tomorrow!!
+edward mercer awesome good luck with it. what model did u get?
+ThatIrishLad hey buddy a 5 door High Up ASG... my last car was a Bentley GT but had a change in financial circumstances! like lots of things about the up! +edward mercer lol hope u enjoy it anyway :D
I think because the car is so light weight the engine does a fine job of pulling it around.
Is it? I believe the Skoda Citigo should be very similar in fact. Perhaps the SEAT Mii is the one that has cheaper interior quality.
Abarth are a tuning company that go mad with the Fiat brand stuff. They make some mental cars, most of them are brilliant but hugely costly for such small cars. VW don't use a tuner, they make their own fast cars with GTI and such, I do hope they do a GTI version of the Up because it would be crazy, wasn't there a GTO Lupo or did I dream that?
i would buy one of these immediately if it came to the us!
"Der are lot of words der that I don't usually associate wit VW... But der der..." Epic accent is epic!!
PS: Love the video!
I bought the high up! Because of this video and more importantly because you have a lot of car for your money.
It's taking 12 weeks to come after the order, however the car takes 2 weeks to build apparently .
No problem, there's plenty more
