I wasn't having a go at Marty reason I've replied here is so Marty can see my response! I did not watch the video seen these gadgets before!, And I thought it was out of character for you Marty as a teacher to support such a thing these gadgets are extremely bad and habit forming! And I also know Marty puts out lots of free videos and I am greatfull for this if Theres a song I want to learn this is where I go first always!, As the way in which you break things dwn is second to none on here besides active melody imo, I know ppl may say but it's great for older guys who can't fret properly anymore due to age and illness but I've not met one man nor woman in there later yrs having any desire to use a form of well cheating and as for beginners definite no no I wouldn't advise and as I did not watch the clip I retract my statement about the whole money thing!, I still respect you as a musician and will continue to use you as my go too guy when I'm looking for new material. Moving on I've been looking all over the net for someone teaching if I'm wrong by skynyrd I know it's a pretty simple song but have no clue the chord progression if you could one day consider it would be much appreciated! Lol! Cheers!

I actually bought one of these for a friends child.. Listening to me playing my guitar brought him such joy, unfortunately he’s been blind from birth but his other senses are superb so i gave him an old guitar of mine and in no time he got a little rhythm going and then a few chords .. I have to say it’s one of the best things i’ve ever done in my life for sitting with him and jamming just makes him smile and brings such enjoyment for him... He’s even recognising chords by ear in a song and then replicating it himself.. It’s beautiful to see..

If this gadget gets a guitar in a kid's hands and helps them past the initial frustrations of learning guitar, then it's worth it's weight in gold. I've always felt that's the most decisive time in a beginner's journey, you either get past those first hurdles and stick with it or give it up entirely and never look at an axe again. So in that regard, I give it 4 out of 5 Marty hats🎩🎩🎩🎩
Also, could you imagine how a special needs child or handicapped child would feel if he or she were able to enjoy the gift of music. This device could make that happen and that would be incredible!!!!!

I'm ordering this for her in addition to restringing her new acoustic guitar with super light strings, set of nines, because she has poorer muscle tone than we typically have, and very tender fingertips, can't press hard enough on the 10's and 11's on our other acoustic guitars.

The way it's presented makes sense. I can see where this would be valuable to very new students strictly for rhythm and strumming, but am also a big fan of "learn it by doing the proper technique". But satisfaction is a key element during progress, so if this helps or speeds up the rhythm strum, then you take it off to start working on chords, well done.

I have a Chord Buddy and it has helped me stay interested in learning the guitar. When I get frustrated over keeping time or having a rhythm issue I can use my Fender with Chord Buddy attached and actually concentrate on my problem areas without struggling with open chord shapes. I just wish the CB could make the A and F chord...I highly recommend the CB for anyone who is beginning the guitar journey or who has medical issues that may prevent making open chords.

I have to admit, when I first saw this thing my initial thought was “suck it up buttercup! You don’t need no damn crutch!” but then after some thought and reading a few of the comments here, I humbly change that opinion. It is good for some people. Kids in particular, this will at least get them strumming and playing along with other people. Guitar has an absolutely BRUTAL initial learning curve and this can help ease kids into playing. Of course once you take it off it’s going to be a real pain for them to transition to playing chords themselves but hopefully by that time the desire to play music has stuck with them and they’ll work it out. Also as someone else mentioned, this is good for people who have arthritis or other debilitating condition. The joys of playing music should be enjoyed by all, there’s nothing quite like jamming with family and friends, even if you have to start off with something like this to get going.

Currently I have my Chord Buddy on a slightly used black Ibanez six stringed acoustic electric guitar with the goal of eventually progressing to the point of being able to play my red and white Fender Strat Squire electric guitar/amp along with a regular banjo etc. as well. Chord Buddy in my opinion is a must have for anyone who has quit after struggling to learn how to play any guitar. The first time I saw one was a few weeks before I took up the guitar. I thought WTF who wants to cheat. Now I wish I had brought it then because it allows you to get the strumming down and build up fretting finger strength. BTW Pinky is for Blue, Ring is for Red, Green is for the middle, and Yellow the Index finger for training and strength. I got one from a mate second hand to borrow and it's great, although I'm not sure if its genuine or not. That said I will be buying one when I get the scratch up for it with the books. My learning opinion is it is good and good for people with disabilities also

I have a guitar on a guitar stand literally 3 ft from where I lay my head every night. I purchased the guitar and the Cord Buddy four years ago at the same time, and haven't touched the damn thing.
To be quite frank, I forgot I owned a guitar, but this video inspired me to pick it up again.
    Y'all pray for me.

Need to get this for my brother. He Absolutely cannot make near any chord shapes with his left hand (almost as bad with his right too) due to a few accidents as a butcher back when he was an apprentice. He loves guitar and has one but it just sits in the corner. Will get this gor him as a Christmas present 🎸🎄.

I started guitar a year ago and only had an acoustic until I got my electric a few months after. This tool would have helped me so much prior to me getting an electric as I got frustrated with my dad's old acoustic with 15 year old strings (in which I eventually replaced don't worry). Keep it up Marty!
*P.S: A tutorial on Izabella by Jimi Hendrix would be super cool! :D

Hmmm, I think that you really need to know the basic chords before trying to figure out rhythm strumming patterns. I still struggle with figuring out the strumming changes in a song, and I prefer to mute the strings for while I strum to figure it out. Maybe it is just me, but I think the chords are the first building block, then comes strumming, and eventually leads. If I had something like this, I would be sitting around the campfire playing all the songs that had 4 chords that the chord buddy creates ;-) Thanks for the chord buddy demo Marty!!!!! It did make me think back when I first began trying to learn the guitar too ;-)

I don't think there has to be any particular order. Just do what works. Adapt, improvise, overcome. Django didn't let having only two fingers hold him back.

Joe Burger I was trying to compare the difference as I watched the video. As a kid I quit playing due to sore fingers. I recently picked it up as an adult and now it find it easy to play and memorize chords. I think it’s similar to the balance bike. Is peddling more important than balance? Did most of us still learn how to ride a bike before balance bikes came on the scene. Sure we did! However, my youngest son had a balance bike and learned how to ride a bike before my oldest. We all learn differently.

Came here because I saw a lot of hate for this tool under another video and I can't understand why so many people are outraged by it.
People said stuff like "I'm a professional guitarist, this is disgusting" or something like "if you can't play the guitar without this thing, just give it up buddy."
Those comments really saddened me, because people with disabilities, nerve damage, muscle problems and what not can really benefit from tools like this one :(
I can't wrap my head around why people would hate on something that doesn't hurt them, but could potentially help others to discover their passion for playing?
Anyways, I'm a fan. Keep going!

Thank you Marty. The Chord Buddy will be mine. Cause I suck at learning guitar. I'm better with a hammer and nail. Only because hitting my finger hurt so much I really made an effort to keep my fingers out of there. Unfortunately that has been my approach to the guitar as well. 😬 Oops. That was back in the 5th grade. Now I'm 56 and still need help focusing on my strumming so I will stop breaking strings. :) Today I will play guitar better than I ever did. And enjoy hearing it happen. That's my motto. Right now.
Your teaching method has caught my attention! Thank you.
One day in heaven I will play the guitar and know what I'm doing with it. And until then I really appreciate you taking your valuable time to make these videos for me to learn how to play all the guitars I have bought through the years that sit around waiting for me to make something more than spider music. :) And your five minutes a day... turn into middle of the night pick up that guitar and strum it thinking 🤔 about what Marty was teaching me in that video that caught my ear and keeps me coming back for more. That was a informative post, here are a few more tips on how to play the piano…
Try practicing about an hour every day, or just half an hour if you have a busy schedule.
Do extra practice whenever you have more time. For example, on weekends you could do more than 1 hour, like two or three, or even more. This is very helpful because it pulls you out of the routine of piano playing, and lets you practice more and perfect the pieces you play.
Listen to the song or piano piece you are playing. For example, if you are taking piano lessons and are about to play a new piece, you can try searching on the internet for videos or songs and hear how it sounds. This can be very helpful because it teaches you how a song is played and lets you recognize the 'emotion,' the piece is giving off.
Try not to look at the dynamics in a piece, as rules you cannot break. For example, if the piece starts with an 'mp' (mezzo-piano) it only means 'moderately soft' these dynamics don't have specific volume levels. If you are practicing, you don't need to play accordingly and then have a difficulty hearing yourself, you should only play as it tells you when you are actually trying to play it properly.
(I read about these and more from Denelle Piano Lesson website )

If it gets some people started playing guitar, especially kids, I think that's great. I suppose that everyone learns things differently anyway. As others have said, it may be most useful for people with various handicaps who might not be able to play guitar otherwise. Pretty cool.

I agree with you - I have a mate who used to play until he lost some fingers in a work accident. The only way he can play now is to tune to an open tuning and play using the side of his hand almost like a slide. It means that anytime his wants to play someone else’s guitar (at parties etc) he has to retune it. I reckon it might be easier to keep one of these handy.

You should demonstrate how you can remove a button at a time and still play the real chord. A lot of people commenting about dependency and not learning real chords would see the benefit to a beginner. For example you can remove a single button, learn that chord for real but still play a song and once you get that down, you can remove another button and learn your second chord. More fun than just practicing a chord repetitively

Personaly, I think this may do you more harm then good as a beginner. You need to learn those shapes first, and get your hand and fingers used to strings. I mean this didn’t exist when I started playing, and I’m fairly young bloke, still I learned the rhythm and the shapes old fashioned way in couple of months. Now if there was a gadget for dedication that would be another story. Again, this is my personal opinion, cheers!:)

I just saw this thing hanging up in Guitar Center today and was wondering exactly what it was. I guess it does a great job at its intended purpose, I just don't know how good it will be in the overall scheme of things. Working strumming could just as easily be done by muting the strings and working on the patterns. I do like J Bolo's comment about possibly it being used for people with disabilities to allow them to enjoy music. Time will tell how well it does.
