Very good video. You speak very well, and your information is concise and very knowledgeable. It's on topic without a lot of fluff. I have started watching all of your Bonsai videos so that I can learn more about how to make trees from cuttings and seeds. You always seem to mention after-care steps to consider for your plants which I find very helpful. I followed one of your tutorials about Japanese Maples but I left my plants outside in my garden where they became snail/slug food. UGH! I take better care now.
Hey thanks very much! Aftercare is a very important step so I like to share what I do with trees after working on them. Sorry to hear about your maples, I hope they weren't attacked too much and recover well for you!
Thanks for this video. I have dozens of JM seedlings that I wasn't sure what to do with. I'm going to give this a go in the spring. The mesh tape idea is also really helpful. Thanks again!
Going to look beautiful! But one question, why don't you put it on a plate to force the roots to grow horizontally? I know you said you don't want to wire the tree down but you could use some raffia to hold it on the plate aswell and get the pancake nebari faster😄
@@notionbonsai yes sir I did I will be doing an update video when I get my new shipment of starter Kishu material from Bonsaify. It’s started to leaf of the other day and hope it takes. I have an area behind a shed that has probably 50+ seedlings that just keep popping up. Thanks for the response Adam. You and Nigel are the reason I decided to document my bonsai journey on RUclips.
Awesome Adam! I’m going to give clump style a try! Unrelated: Do you have any suggestions for caring for a schefflera (umbrella tree) and when to repot etc? If you have these in your region?
I wonder if it could be as good to use a "regular" plant pot the very first stage? I am also thinking from the perspective of beginners that could benefit of not having to buy a bonsai pot straight away or don't have the drill to make DIY. I imagine it would not be detrimental in the most early development? Thanks for an informative video as usual.
Hey! No problem man! I repot these ones last year, I think it was mid summer, just separated them from the seed tray they were in, did not disturb any roots and potted them individually 😊
Hey! I hope you have success in yours! Because I use soil with so much drainage, I water all my trees every day. You never want the soil to fully dry out, or be sitting in water / flooded where the water will stagnate and rot the roots. It is a balance 🙂 I hope this helps!
Really helpful video Adam. A couple of questions if I may, did you do a video when you planted the Maple seeds and, where did you buy the Maple seeds please?
Hey Mike! I did make a video on how to stratify and germinate maple from seeds. I got these seeds from Herons Bonsai Nursery on my last visit. Here is the video on how to grow the maples from seed: ruclips.net/video/jD2Ekp-0mew/видео.html Hope this helps!!
It sure does! As long as the pot is dry when sticking it, it stays on no problem! Though you might need to go hunting for it in the soil when you repot a year later!
I see a video where a cable tie was used to hold the young plants together, then after a year there was new roots above the tie which made for a lovely nebari. Btw that RUclips channel was called Eisei-en Bonsai his videos are nearly as good as yours
The tip with the mesh tape is great. Never heard of that before.
It is a handy one if I got a lot of trees I have to repot in one day! 😄
Like this idea. I have some maple seedlings so will try my own clump style next spring.
The most beautiful Kabudachi bonsai I’ve ever seen has been evergreen trees 🌲
Ooh! I probably haven't seen enough of them then!! 😁 What evergreen species look good?
@@notionbonsai I think any coniferous that are straight and tall, but I think I like spruces the best
I like how straight forward you are and sound natural and in your element.
I want to try bonsai and I will share the result.
I am glad my passion for Bonsai comes across this way 🤗 Good luck with your one!!

Send a brother some if you have too many 🙂↕️
Lovely. I look forward to see this clump it the future.
I will do an update in 1 year time! 🙂
Excellent as always Adam! Might try one myself soon.
Thank you Dave! 🙂 I hope yours is successful!!
I want to try a clump style. Thank you for your great video Adam.
As I've access to chestnuts, I might try my luck with them. Thanks for this great tutorial.
They would work great like this too!!
Great video. Those maples are perfect, good job!
Thank you Kristin! 😊🍁🍁🍁

Hey Carol! Thank you so much for your support!!
Great work as always 👍
Thanks Jake!!
Thank you very much for this. I'm planning on doing exactly the same thing with some amur maple seedlings I've grown
oooh nice! I hope it fuses nicely for you too!
Great Video thanks for sharing your knowledge 🌱
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks! Awesome tutorial

I just put a small one together the other day with I believe ginko trees of some kind only used 3
Ooh nice! This would be an interesting one to see! Did you start with seedlings?

Awesome video pal, and thank you for all your help through insta so far 😉👍
When did you first repot the maples?
Hey! No problem man! I repot these ones last year, I think it was mid summer, just separated them from the seed tray they were in, did not disturb any roots and potted them individually 😊
Nice!! Do you have any advice for indoor grow lights?
Thanks! I do not have grow lights at the moment so I do not have much experience with them unfortunately!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching! 🙂
Just curious how you water your Japanese maple seedlings? Thanks and great video
I water them every day, sometimes twice a day if it is hot outside! 😊
Thank you! Looking forward to trying this style.
I’m new to bonsai care. How often do you water?

Hi there, long time didn't catch up on yr videos. How often do you water?
Hey!! I water my trees every day. Sometimes 2x a day if it is particularly warm. 😃
I've found maple seedlings don't like being really tightly clumped i.e. to make a multistem but need at least half an inch or so
Is this the same as maples?
Hey! The species I used in this video is Japanese maple ☺
Similar start technique for Trunks fusion
This is true!! 🙂
Can u use latin name so anyone can be sure of what tree u talking about? Merci 👍🏼
