I just wanted to say that I find it amazing that both of you have about the same amount of hair on your heads, just in different spots. The bonsai is nice as well of course.
I’ve done this before with garden centre mugo pine material and it didn’t end well, I cut off a similar amount of branches to you and the tree slowly died. I’d maybe spray with SB invigorator to try and give the tree a boost, and maybe a copper fungicide later on. Some say mugos respond well to being heavily pruned but I think some varieties in particular are a bit fussy so I’d just be careful in future. Enjoyed the video though, keep it up!
Thanks Xavier! Personally.... I am not the biggest fan of cascades in general with Bonsai... I appreciate them and can understand how they are inspired by trees on the side of a cliff or something... I think unless a tree REALLY has a big sweep where it would be a big shame not to cascade it... I don't consider making one 😊 This is just me though!!
Very nice detailed video. My first mugo was soo much fun but ALOT of decisions went into it just like urs. It is a complicated mess but u summed it up very nicely. Looks as if my first has died all needles went brown and it was looking to be an amazing full cascade. Good thing i never spent the money to put it in its final pot. Will u be selling lime sulfur on ur website? And ship to the US? Great video and u guys should do more nursery stock videos together so we can see the both of u style 2 trees at once. Good idea
I love mugo pines no matter what I do they just give up on me. This last time was the longest I had one five months before the intense summer heat got to them. Outstanding work by the way.
They can be tricky but the more I learn about Pines the easier they are getting. They have to be strong before you work on them... like bursting with growth! That way we dont slow them down. If they are not strong, we work on getting them happy 😊
Yes Adam, I hope all is well. Could you show us your Bonsai Trees in Autumnal colours? Either as a fun factual video about deciduous Bonsai Trees or a RUclips short?
awesome video and so many helpful tips. one thing I may have done differently on the slanted tree is avoid the handle bars (having two branches appear to be coming from the same point on the trunk)
Hey thank you! You are totally right, I think it is best to remove the major problems first but in the future when the tree grows more I can come back and fix this 😊
Hi - I really like your videos about trees for Bonsai. So many species to choose. The more that I learn, the clearer it becomes that it may take multiple years and growing seasons to develop a bonsai tree. I have watched dozens of videos about bonsai, but I would really like to see more videos about the life of the trees sequenced over multiple growing seasons. When I see you style a tree, or re-pot a tree, it would be great to see the after care over time, and what the tree looks like later in the year, over several months, or over multiple years and growing seasons. If you are working on a particular tree now, what did that tree look like 3 or 5 years ago? I'm sorry if that becomes a video editing nightmare. Anyway, your videos are very helpful and informative.
Hey thank you very much! You are totally right, sometimes it can even take a lifetime to create a beautiful bonsai. I think it is important to enjoy the journey as we go along 😊 I post updates on my trees on Instagram and when I work on a tree again I will make a video from it 😊
I just found a Mugo Pine at a garden center today. It's now mid-October and I live on Long Island, which is on the cusp between zone 4 and zone 5 (USA). This tree will need to live outdoors this winter. I want to do all the work on this tree similar to yours in the video. Should I wait until spring (March / April) or can I work on it now to do the top trimming, and styling ?
I did a Experiment On apple trees seeds when growing them I made a tea out of dead leaves of other tree and pine needles and some other types tree leaves and other ingredients only gave it to one of them wish I could show you the awesome results.
You’re really good! Been watching lots of your videos lately. Just wondered did you get any formal training because you seem to know loud for young guy Kind regards Jay
I just bought a Mugo, and I am fearful of trying to repot/do anything severe to the roots, given the time of year. I suppose I could just reveal the nebari and do a clean-up (ex: 5m to 7m in your video), right? Or should I just leave her alone until next year?
Hi 🤚 I love the video on pines it’s all good 🌲 There is one thing that bothers me people always try to create a bonsai from a small pine always reflecting on to many Branches and inverse taper Etc them scalp them to nothing 🌳 Then scalp them to 2 or 3 branches. The pines tend to grow with bar branches and bumps it’s the growth habit It’s hard to prune them and make the scars look ok . Great video all the same but I guess I’m more of natural tree looking guy than most 🌲 I would prefer a unique trunk rather than loads of pruning scars witch won’t heal in 50 years . Stay cool nice video. Regards Shaun 🤙🌳 Oh and it’s easier to buy A good one with no Flaws it can be done 🌲
Hey thank you very much! this is very true with Pines! I think if you wish to achieve this "perfect" look in a shorter space of time, seek trees that have been developed specifically for Bonsai and not from a garden centre. You are very right! Sometimes I like the challenge that comes with tricky material like this to see what I can make of it 😊🌲❤️
@@notionbonsai very true. I like the challenge also I forgot the difference with nursery stock and pre bonsai material. I appreciate you are working on Nursery stock not expensive pre bonsai . Very good point 👋🌳🌳 Stay cool . Also the reduced area in nursery’s is always worth a look Especially for yew trees with some browning of the foliage witch won’t concern us to much. Your very right I totally forgot the price difference. The problem with the yew trees they always seem to be in terrible black dirt so they get waterlogged very easy . I bare rooted five in spring last year into pumice Akadama lava rock the usual mix you now the crack . It’s improved them 10 fold ready to style soon as it stops raining in Dorset 😀 Regards Shaun 👋👍
This is normal when you are getting into Bonsai 😊 Trees really dont need repotted that often, I think with Pines especially they are very fussy and they need to be done with care! You should check out a guy called Dan Robinson! He never repots his trees and he has a very unique style of Bonsai!
I know what you mean! At first it seems like a lot, but because this was a "first styling" it is probably the most pruning these trees will see at any one time ever from here on out.
I want to start but I have no idea what to do I live in a small town called Kamloops near Vancouver bc and was wondering some good trees to use indoors
Love both of your styles. I will look forward to seeing the journey of two very different but equally beautiful bonsai. Thank you Adam and Attila xxx
I just wanted to say that I find it amazing that both of you have about the same amount of hair on your heads, just in different spots. The bonsai is nice as well of course.
Whaaaat no I definitely have longer hair! 😋
Where I struggle the most is the stylistic vision when creating bonsai. Making them look like miniature tree rather than just a small plant in a pot.
This comes with time when we prune...and wait... and prune... and wait...year after year! It is important to enjoy the process as we go along 😊
Thanks for simplifying for us beginners.
Nice video. Learned loads. Thanks.
Never worked on a mungo pine before. I loved what you two did on your trees. Now I feel the urge to buy a mungo to style!
I love it when you two work together the things you guys do together is awesome
hey thanks Casandra!
Great primer for how to manage Mugos. As one who had killed my first attempt, trying again after seeing this now seems possible.

Thank you, Adam, for all of your amazing work. I always learn so much from your videos that I can apply to my bonsai projects. Cheers
Hey! I am happy that you can get something from my videos 😊
Design of mugo pined is not easy task. That was good!
You did almost everything the opposite of what I would have done and it looks great. Makes me question all of the decisions I have ever made.
There are always more than one option in Bonsai! 😊
Detailed and fun to watch. No matter how much I tried not to - your tree kept screaming out semi cascade to me. Any thoughts?
Thanks Xavier! Personally.... I am not the biggest fan of cascades in general with Bonsai... I appreciate them and can understand how they are inspired by trees on the side of a cliff or something... Excellent tutorial, loved the explanation about the terminal buds
Thanks for another awesome video. Always enjoyable, interesting, informative and educational.
Many regards to you and Attila.

Good work on both, my knowledge will leave the choice to you. What you did looks great, I am still learning. Cheers

I was told that Mugo pines should be repotted in August/September.
Another fantastic video, a joy to watch, always learning.
Thank you so much Conor! I am happy that I can share my Joy of Bonsai with you!
Another great video, Adam!
I love the result, though i think i would have left the deadwood as a first branch and cut the one above it. You guys are great
Love learning more about bonsai thx
I love your channel .love heron as well but sometimes his Videos put me to sleep 😂.
Hope this work will pay you big. You deserve it
Thank you so much for your support of my channel! ❤️

Thank you Kristinbonz! I am glad to be able to share this!
Lovely job

Both of them look interesting .Looking forward to uppdate in spring.
Thanks Harriet!! I am looking forward to seeing how they develop too 😊

Does it matter the season where I can start trimming branches off?
Hello, I want to ask if the cut putty is then removed, if so, after what time
👍👌🙂
😊🌲🪴
Can you try a silver birch?

❤🥰🥰❤👍
Mugo’s are tough. Killed four.
I find that I am way too eager to repot a tree immediately when I buy it from the nursery lol.

Hey! Ficus is a fantastic beginner tree to have indoors!
@ thank you!!
Love your videos, great job but just too long advertisements 🙃, 5 seconds are ok but 15 seconds 💤
Keep up the good work, you are amazing
I am a bald older bonsai artist. I covet your hair.
I love jin, but you made the better choice to remove.
I am glad that you agree! Of course there are always many options in Bonsai and I could have made this work too!
Hey!
Hey!!
Don't tell me this isn't torture for the trees.
Mugo pine are finicky..they die. For no reason
I wrote you an emai
