I was leveling so fast that half the time I didn't even have ashs equipped because I didn't realize I had unlocked multiple levels of the battle pass while playing.
Word, I'm playing casually and having no problems with ashes, or leveling for that matter. I was wondering if that reward was balanced or whatever.

@@michaelflammer3622 The problem begins at later pass tiers. I'm missing 5 ashes at level 90 and for me the problem began at like level 70.
@@joze714 yeah it was mentioned in the video, I understand what the issue is. Compared to previous seasons however, those ashes are definitely better balanced.

Yeah, you unlocked them, but you can't activate then until later levels. Usually you just level past those activations without realizing it. There's nothing inherently "pay to win" bc you still have to play to reach the level. Her dismissing the definition because it literally counters her point shows how weak the argument is.

It is as simple as Intent VS Outcome. Their Intent is Zero P2W, the Outcome by definition crossed that line.

Technically POE is P2W with stash tabs, but also not a deal breaker for most people.
Technically you are wrong. Stash tabs does not give you character power whatsoever. You can trade without having premium tabs by creating a "shop thread" on the forums which is a hassle on it's own, many people never used it or forgot you can do that. Pay for convenience - sure.

There are legitimate reasons to dislike D4, this isn’t one of them.
I'm glad you don't care, nice. The fact is this was always a potential issue with how they implemented the battle pass skips. Blizz knew it, players knew it.... They made it not a problem early on and promised it never would happen. Now it did.

I've been playing a lot, and I have yet to level past my battlepass level. I think you have to be leveling optimally, which isn't the majority of the playerbase. Streamers and no-lifers, maybe, who are always going to be playing so much more than casuals. This literally doesn't impact the game for 99.9% of us, so whether this is "pay to win" or not is moot.
Your logic is flawed ... the people who swipe do so cause they have more money than they care about. You pretending while why would they swipe for x y and z ... they already did edit omg i let the video keep going its gross how much you believe they wont use techniques to game metrics

I feel like people are just reaching and wanting to find that "Diablo Bad" thing. I agree, I believe this was an oversight, I don't feel it is P2W simply because you DO NOT have to purchase anything to acquire these items. And as you mentioned, they don't make that much of a difference, especially this season....I had 10 cinders before I remembered about the pass.
I wasn't looking too closely at this as I leveled, but I hit the end of the battlepass just before or near hitting 90 and it didn't seem like they were available significantly sooner, I don't know if this is an impact throughout the entire leveling experience or just at a few tiers where unlocks are happening more quickly but for a leveling perspective it would only really affect the first four unlocks. I think the simple fix would be to have the ashes tied to level only as its own track in the bp.

All the stupid mobile game clones are also pay to win just because you can pay money to reduce a cooldown or really just for completely worthless in-game (no economy) currency.

My main is 84 and I have finished the battlepass, although I did use free upgrade I had that unlocked the first 20 levels. But believe I would have finished it well before the level cap. I am not sure this really a big issue though.

This mentality of "its so minor it doesn't matter" is the reason why non-p2w games BECOME more p2w over time. If a game is not supposed to be p2w, then calling out instances of p2w, even if its inadvertent, is still important. Putting blinders on because you're having fun is the dumbest thing you could do. If you can’t win in D4, especially this season, you should pick up another hobby. There is no speed rewards so who cares how fast you level.
Battle pass is nothing, D4 players should be talking more about the one shot BS mechanics in uber boss fights, No place in these games it's poor design.

Well yea. The whole idea of a ladder in games like these often times is who levels faster and who hits lvl 100 first. Reminder, they were adamant that there will be no paid advantage. Then they added advantage to the battle pass for "free", now its purchasable advantage. Slippery slope? Sure, but its a pattern blizz and other companies employed plenty of times.

@@Turtlefry I guess it depends on what you mean by racing. If you mean racing through the campaign, then they don't help, however if you mean the gauntlets, then yes. Hypocrisy arguments however don't tell you whether her points are valid, but she's pointed out POE P2W aspects (which included statsh tabs) in the past.
I got the first pass with the game the second free the third with in game currency from first 2 passes then the 4th the same way so I got all 4 with the ultimate edition haven't had to pay any extra yet

I had an accelrated pass so never ran into this. Maxed the pass super fast and was waiting for the levels to come. I think its meant to be more for alt characters so you can reach end game faster the next time around.
I've seen a few streamers point this out. Raxx is blasting through leveling each class. The game is now alt-friendly. I dunno why this is even talked about when it only applies to like .1% of the players.

However something I don't think many noticed was they lowered the amount of platinum you get back in a battlepass. S1-S3 if you bought the BP you would get back 666 plat for completing the track. In season 4 you now only get 630 plat.

This is a case of semantics: one side says it's P2W, the other side says it's pay to catch up -- and both sides are true at the same time. From my point of view, those who already at level 100 already won -- so there's no point to argue about anything else.
Any game with a cash shop is P2W. The game was compromised the minute it launched. The only question is, does it repulse you enough not to play?

So I tried this on Xbox, doesn’t work. This isn’t intentional.
The one thing I don't understand in this video is that she is stating you have to complete Season Journey objectives to level up the battlepass, which plainly isn't true, I think this is a bit of a non-issue, as I've leveled up my battlepass faster than I've been leveling so I've been able to just take the ashes as they get unlocked by my character level.

in all fairness I had this happen to me last season, I don't think its a on purpose thing as much as its just kinda a design flaw. because they didn't want them to be separate tracks for ease of coding or something
Pay to win what there are no rankings and your character has a max level of 100... So somebody who buys the battle pass can make it to level 100 faster for no reason... cool
If anyone could even sees this coming in the leveling race, he/she is not even in the race… Why the F would someone in the leveling race go check the battle pass in the heat of leveling nonstop race? Every minute maybe every second counts in their race.
How do you win the game with this? It doesn’t give you extra power. Maybe you get some extra loot with the whisper one, but that’s it. And people will catch up.
would be good to see progress of the season journey with that claims. i finished the battlepass with level 70. and had locked ashes. if people don't play the season at all, they swipe. if you do the journey while leveling you have 0 problems with that.

@Darth Microtransaction I believe that , that portion of the season progression is borked. I haven't payed for a season since #1. I do NOT get the ashes when I achieve the specified level. I have to progress at least one level beyond, or in the most recent case two levels. To be honest I do not know about other season rewards because it only is mission critical when it comes to ashes. If you would like to use my experience in a bug report, feel free.
I used my free battle pass and my season journey was always ahead of my level. I had to wait for my level to catch up since the ashes level requirement is set to high.
I was one of the people that called Lily out on just hating on the game, after watching the video I admit I was wrong but i called her out for a different reason, in lilys original tweet she spoke as if she just wanted to jump on the d4bad wagon but had nothing bad to say, but yeah after the her video its definetly an oversight that should be cleaned up

"It's not that bad, this will barely effect you" - People with no concept of having principles. It shouldn't be in the game. You should only EVER get cosmetics from paying. If the playerbase allows this to continue, there will be full blown pay to win in the game eventually. US history has proven that almost every company will do whatever they are allowed in order to make more money, no matter what.
I don't care if it costs $10,000 to get 1 smoldering ash, it shouldn't exist on principle. But that concept is beyond most gamers now, apparently.
The player base will allow it because that's what they always do anyway. Blizzard are already laughing their asses off considering how successful "cosmetics micro transactions" are in this fully priced 3A game.
People wanted faster leveling, begging for it without even thinking about what it would cause issues with leveling faster and the battle pass ashes.

She is technically correct, but there is no practical advantage here, and quite frankly, I don’t see this escalating as she claims it might
At worst, it needs an adjustment, though I’d argue that if they’re going to accelerate the battlepass xp, they need to add more tiers to compensate
And adding more ashes to those tiers defeats the purpose
Stash tabs are just as much pay 2 play as buying d4 for 100 bucks is. The difference is that you can try PoE for free before essentially choosing to buy it.
I think lily just wants to farmed to get some publicity. Her approach seems to have stagnated her growth so she's trying something new.

Not a biggie at all. Leveling is a problem now in D4? n. I don't think they intended it to be P2W, they wanted everyone to get their ashes faster. I for one didn't even put ashes in XP first. Her points make sense, but it sounds like looking for a reason to complain. As long as D4 doesn't have a competitive speed leveling "ladder", the point is not a high prio.
