You go there, and you ask for a burger, and receive only the patty for the 2$. They sell the dough for the buns separately, and they can bake them for you but you also have to pay for that, you also have to pay for the lettuce, ketchup, onions, and so on. "Well you don't have to spend that extra money, you got your burger" they purposely sold things that should be included in the BASE BURGER separately because they're greedy. You wouldn't accept that, why accept it in videogames as well? If it's cosmetics or whatever sure! But if they literally CREATE PROBLEMS and then SELL you the SOLUTION that is not acceptable. I don't mind if games sell stuff, like a battlepass to get a few rewards, but when you're restricted left and right and the game literally forces you to pay real money if you want to keep playing or progress then that's a shit game, and the fact that you're defending that is pathetic. I'd in fact lock the drops behind pvp. In fact in fact, I'd actively try to make items that look good to f2ps but the game things it's such a power boost it boosts them into getting one shot by whales and it's good for pve but pvp it sets you up with whales that would normally be out side if your reach. Math warning!
From what I understand, it takes somewhere between 400-600 rift runs (possibly more), each fully supplied with ten Legendary Crests, to reliably yield a single 5/5* legendary gem. You need six of those to fully deck your gear, so that's 2,400 runs to get six... and then you need ten duplicates (or enough other different legendary gems) to rank those up to level 10, but let's just consider the case of getting _just_ six 5/5* gems.
For a P2W player, they just throw money at the problem.
Ten crests a run, $25 a run, (with every 33rd run free...)
$10,000-15,000 per gem (minus $300-450 in "free" runs). 400-600 runs.
Five minutes a run. 2,000-3,000 minutes of gameplay. 33-50 hours of gameplay. Per 5/5* gem.
200-300 hours of gameplay for six. At 8 hours a day of gameplay, a P2W player can grind out six 5/5* gems in a month or two (25 to 38 8-hr days) .
    F2P player?
How many legendary crests can they get in a month? One? Two? Ten? I'm fairly certain the answer is _less_ than ten. But...
Let's say the F2P player can (somehow(!)) get a hold of *_FIFTY_* free crests a month. That's 5 runs.
400-600 runs will take 80-120 _months_ to complete.
That means the F2P player can have a shot at the same gear a P2W whale can _grind out in a month,_ in approximately *_40 to 60 YEARS!_*
And that's with an extreme expectation of the number of crests a F2P player can get ahold of.
At _one_ crest a month, the _expected minimum_ amount of time to get six 5/5* gems stacks up at *_2000+ years._*
'Diablo Immortal' indeed. You HAVE to be immortal to F2P this game to endgame.

    • @klutterkicker
      @klutterkicker 2 года назад +61

As a mobile gamer myself, I can assure you he is not paid or trolling. And this is the scary thing about the way games are created now. Where microtransactions become so ubiquitous, that people either stop realizing how detrimental it is to games ("it's just how these games are"), or stop caring ("if you don't like it, don't play"). Both of which leads to game quality suffering. But if you're a mobile gamer, it's all you ever known, and you don't know you could have had it better.

It's fucking sad, people have literally zero capacity anymore to examine their own interests and desires, they are actually incapable of making the internal judgment of "I like/dislike this thing" and depend on whatever source they trust most to tell them what's true and what isn't.

Then again, maybe you could be competing at eating Subway sandwiches, or smoking cigarettes or falling asleep and literally face rolling the game, , or any combination of those, and I'd have to say "yeah, it's probably some pretty stiff competition between the free to play and the kraken class"... 😂

He is probably right that there will be some patch that makes it so the F2P crowd can get the best gems. But as he also mentions, those kinda games get frequent updates with new content. The moment the F2P crowd gets access to it, the whales will have access to something better. Some whales get unhappy if they feel F2P's can threaten them, and you don't want to make the whales unhappy. This also incentivizes the whales to spend money again after they have gotten fully decked out gear. The F2P players will then feel like they are catching up, even if they are really not. The only ones losing "power" in this model are the ones who stop spending as their initial purchases are powercrept.

And the fact that he's STILL not keeping up with the whales speaks volumes more than anything that is coming out of his mouth.
The average player isn't going to play 13 hours a day every day. They'll barely play 4 consistently. This is his job. The rest of us are busy with our jobs away from CPUs and diablo. So we will never catch up. That's what he's not saying. There is a difference between trashing a game while being too lazy to even play it and not being able to play the game enough.

We're at a crossroads here. The tactics Diablo Immortal is employing here aren't new tactics. Blizzard didn't think of this on their own. Eastern audiences have been dealing with these sorts of monetisation schemes for a long time now, almost to the point where it's normalised in their gaming industry. The difference is that DI is now trying to bring these scams (let's call it what they are) to the western audience and set a dangerous precedent that Genshin Impact opened the door to. It's much harder to fight this once we're used to being exploited (much like how eastern gaming has become) then it is right now at the cusp of being exploited.
F2p games have many ways to be fair with their monetisation, and we see a lot of good examples in both eastern and western gaming. These games don't need to employ these tactics to make money. They just want to because it makes them more money. And we'll suffer for it.

    • @Volair
      @Volair 2 года назад +3

Yeah, in my mind, League has always done it perfectly. I've always been F2P, and while I never was competitive, I never felt like I lacked for anything other than skins. But with the "loot box" system now, I went from a total of 7 skins in the first 7 years (3 gifted, 4 freebies) to 63 in the last 5 years (70 total) and 58 of those in the last 3 years. So this is one of the few cases that loot boxes actually improved the game experience, oddly.

@@andreytsybiskin6831 I've noticed. I've played a lot of Gacha games, and other similarly styled games. But there's a difference between a game being on the western market and made for western audiences.
The games you see on the mobile market are made for eastern audiences, and expanded to the western market. Even RAID is the same.
DI is an IP that has firm roots in the western audience and was built and marketed for them. This is wildly different from transporting an IP from say China to the western marketplace.
It sets up a precedent to turn other IPs into the same cash grabs and degrade the gaming market we're used to. If this is normalised you could see this in Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls, Pokemon, GTA and so on.
We have already started to be encroached by malicious monetisation tactics in other games, sure. But they face repercussions for their actions. It's completely different from the eastern audience where it's already normalised, who no longer even recognise they're being exploited.

You will never be stronger than a paid character... Simply the reagent you need to buy in order to awake your gear is bought only with premium currency... It is still pay to win! Strongly pay to win! But for a casual play it is Ok I guess... You can get 5 star legendary gems, but once you get best in slot, there will be a paid player with awaken gear, that will crush you :) If you are BIS in 1k resonance and for example 5k rating, there will be paid player with 300-400- 500 resonance more and few hundred rating more, he will do more dmg to you, you will do less dmg to him... I did a little bit of research into it, and couldn't find any videos to support your claim. I found videos of his covering cheaters, but nothing about him cheating. On top of that, he is taking the company who made raid to court over a copywrite strike they gave him. This option is available to all content creators, but most of them just end of complaining for content. It's nice to see people actually fight abusive claims.
Tldr I went in looking for more negativity, but my respect went up 1% for him

Context matters so your comment is kind of disingenuous. Engineowning was being used in raid for years for people to change the speed of the game and cheat in arena. People using this speed hack had an advantage at the end of every arena reset to complete arena fights faster and therefore win platinum arena. This was an issue for a long time and Plarium was doing nothing to address it. Stew made a video showing people how to do it and encouraging it to force Plariums hand and actually do something to fix it. They didn't like that Stew did this and in turn kicked him out of the content creator program. Some may not agree with how he went about it, but not so long after Plarium actually started handing out bans for using it and implemented a way to detect people using it. That's a lot different than just saying "Stew was cheating using this so he got kicked out of the program".

@@Mike_Dubayou I have been on off watching Stew for a few years now but have no interest in diablo so am not watching now.
The raid devs always hated Stew (And anyone else who did this also) because he would call them out on shit all the time. The speed hack and arena exploiters were the two main ones i remember plus the general lack of new content and QoL like hero space.
This resulted in getting excluded and ignored a lot as the raid devs wanted pure yes people and of course a legion of people who have made raid their life (seemingly much like Stew now has with diablo) looking for anything and everything to take them down for daring to speak bad about their game. Which results in posts like this one.

I played an "app game" once. The big whales in my kingdom forced everyone else to spend all of their free gold not on upgrades but on the anti-pvp shield so we could keep some resources. Later kingdom vs kingdom opened up and our whales could not keep our kingdom from constantly serving another king, because he spent even more. One year later their biggest whale still beat all our whales combined, and one of our whales could (if they wanted) still raid all of the free or normal paying players that didn't keep the pvp shield without taking losses.
The fact that old powerful stuff eventually become available to free or normal paying players doesn't mean the whale still can't crush and infinite number of us, because at the same time some new tier of item is released that keeps him untouchable.

This is literally what a person addicted to copium looks like. I'm having a hard time trying to guess if he's actually trolling or being delusional.
After finishing the video I just can't believe how conditioned this person is to believe the game "is good", he believes getting completely and utterly destroyed by whales is ok because eventually you will fall down again and play with people of your level. This is literally a successful skinner box experiment, the electric shock are the whales destroying him and the reward/water is getting to play with people of his level after a certain period. It's unreal to see something like this.

The problem I have, is that a company that was once lauded for making games so good that the games themselves have inspired the dreams of developers across multiple generations and decades, that is directly and indirectly responsible for creating some of THE most popular games on the planet; has destroyed AND defiled the games they were known for (WC3:Reforged, SC2) and is now creating shovelware designed for the express purpose of making money. We knew Blizzard was losing everything that made them who they were the moment they announced this game, but what we didn't realize was that they had actually already turned into a soulless corporation that abuses the names, titles and clout of the past to make as much money as they possibly can. Blizzard is no longer a game development company, its a corporate profit company that happens to have inherited a once glorious empire. I can only give thanks to the Blizzard of the past, and look forward to the games that will rise from people who were once inspired by them.

A company isn't its branding and logo, but a collection of people working together to an ends. Blizzard is not the same company in any way shape or form as when it started. Not in its organisational structure or its members. The company that made those iconic games is long dead. What's left is a collection of money hungry imposters driving a brand and its intellectual property into the ground with the intent of making money, not games. RIP OG Blizzard.

I knew D3 was a mess when they implemented the auction house, it just want Diablo. In saying that, the downfall of Blizzard was with WoW. MMO trash that requires continuous payment that has been milked for nearly 20 years. Blizzard burned bright, but not for very long.

Yes because someone who plays 13 hours a day and is in the middle of the pack progress wise is definitely good representation of the average player. When D3 came out the people who played 13 hours a day were the ones who were doing world first events, getting to lvl 60 first, getting to nightmare hell inferno first. Imagine how far along someone is who plays a conservative 6 hours a day(generous af). Now imaging how far someone is who plays 2-3 hours a week.
The sheer fact that you are a 13hour/day player and still middle of the pack just shows how much of a boost people get when they pay

"For example, in one implementation, the system may include a microtransaction engine that arranges matches to influence game-related purchases. For instance, the microtransaction engine may *match a more expert/marquee player with a junior player to encourage the junior player to make game-related purchases of items possessed/used by the marquee player.* A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player.

In one implementation, when a player makes a game-related purchase, the microtransaction engine may encourage future purchases by matching the player (e.g., using matchmaking described herein) in a gameplay session that will utilize the game-related purchase. Doing so may enhance a level of enjoyment by the player for the game-related purchase, which may encourage future purchases. For example, *if the player purchased a particular weapon, the microtransaction engine may match the player in a gameplay session in which the particular weapon is highly effective, giving the player an impression that the particular weapon was a good purchase.* This may encourage the player to make future purchases to achieve similar gameplay results."
