Only stats that really matter are Net Points...and Jokic is +6 net per 100 (that would be good for 3rd best differential in NBA after GSW and Spurs) while Nugets are - 6 net without him (3rd worst nba net, and consider that his backups were Nurkic and Mason Plumlee, 2 of better NBA centers, now THATS actually scary)...thats 12 points difference when he is off the court...he was rare NBA player with positive net on net negative team even in his rookie campaign... He is not bad defender either, Nuggets are generally bad and running poor defensive schemes, for comparison Jokic, Nurkic (guy that is generally considered "good" defender) and Plumlee all have same defensive rating of 109, and while Jokic will likely never become elite defender due to his limited athleticism he is very good high BBIQ positional defender and usually makes right reads (although Denver Bigs are often placed in impossible situations because backcourt poor perimeter defense they fail to contain dribble penetrations that often results in 2v1 situations) But he is still overpowering offensive player - his offensive ranting was 126, but unlike Gobert and DJ, he is the cause of that effect (for comparison Plumlee ORTG was 112, and Nurk ORTG in Denver was 98 -nearly 30 pts difference, but I do agree it was mostly result of dysfunctional units, despite being solid center (I always thought he could become beast with proper attitude and work ethics) Nurk as more traditional Big can't play well with poor shooting and heavy slashing backcourt since he often clogs driving lanes and is less effective post-up scorer without proper spacing)...thing that really stands out about Jokic is that he is so damn effective regardless of lineups (in fact he maximize players strengths by creating ideal situations, as result all guys playing with Jokic often receive double digit boost to their average FG%, even Mudiay was close to 50% FG) as long teammates don't interfere with his playmaking (he is not ball dominant guy since he generally keeps ball for just few seconds but he needs touches to maximize his skillsets) - and only guy that actually managed to have negative net with Jokic was Nurk and not because Twin-Tower linups or their skills sets but because of their clashing personalities, Nurk heavy usage caused stagnant offense and interfered with Jokic playmaking since it effectively cut him off of offensive flow - Nurk posted solid numbers on decent efficiency but Nuggets offense was disaster - that was reason Jokic asked to be benched and that led to Murray winning November rookie of the month award since that bench torched hell out of opponents and staggered crazy comebacks including 24-0 run against Bulls, mostly their starters...after that month Jokic returned to Starters this time as center, and Nuggets led NBA in offense while he posted PER of nearly 30)...generally speaking most potent offensive players can drive, shoot and pass efficiently and have high BBIQ to chose best options and Jokic is elite in all those categories, plus his size/length and strength allows him to dominate post and crash the boards that scary combination cause gravitational pull of mini Black Hole that distort space and scramble defenders effectively creating unstoppable 5 headed Hydra offense, you can manage to cut off few heads but they will still bite you in the ass...
Came back here after Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets won the 2023 NBA champiopnship. Anyone else present here? As an avid Lakers fan here, I'm so happy for the Joker to finally be called an NBA champion.
I absolutely love watching Jokic play, because he has an incredibly high Basketball-IQ. His impact can't be measured with the "normal" boxscore, because he loves to pass and makes passing infectious. While he is on your team, you're pretty much guaranteed one of the best offenses in the league. In addition to that his efficiency is through the roof, as i don't think anybody has better percentages from mid-range. As for his rank in the NBA: If he can bring the same performances from the end of last season, he could be close to a Top 10 player, but probably somewhere between 12 and 20, which is amazing considering his age
Top12-20 makes sense, I was probably being too generous with him being top-10 next year. But yeah, his playstyle and skillset are amazing, and the fact that he's so efficient despite mainly playing in the midrange and post is crazy. Those two areas are statistically the least efficient spots to score from.
Andy Hoops yeah, Jokic is like the nightmare of the Basketball nerds, because he shoots from spots, which are considered inefficient and he isn't particularly athletic or well trained (yet), but he still does soooo well. One thing is for sure: Jokic will be a joy to watch for many years to come 💪 Thanks for answering btw, I really enjoy your videos :)
Once Jokic took over the starting and play making role, he made Denver number 1 offense in the league. His stats from 2017 only show better how he really plays and how he affected the team. They lost a playoff spot in the last game. Yes, he still needs to upgrade on defensive end and to earn more respect with some refs that have been calling some ridiculous fouls on him.
Make no mistake.Jokić is the real deal. When reentered in to the starting five of the nuggets on dec.15 he led the team to 26-19 record (47 win pace)and the best offense in the league while posting 20 11 and 6.5.When he is on the floor the nuggs are a diffrent animal.Everybody wants to move and cut bcs he makes the right pass everytime. His IQ is unbelivable.Him , Millsap and improvments of garry harris and jamal murray(whos starting at point this year) this squad could be a 50 win team
Millsap is also low-key an incredibly underrated player. I think 20/11/6 is possible for Jokic next year and they're definitely a darkhorse playoff team. The West is just so loaded though, so it's possible that even 50 wins might not get them into the playoffs...
Andy Hoops Millsap might be 3rd best power forward in the league after AD and Draymond Green. He's a better defender than Kevin Love, more skilled than Blake Griffin, and better generally than Lamarcus Aldridge.
I remember hearing about Jokic, and I checked his stats and I expected more than 5 assists. But then I saw his minutes, and I was like, HOLY S###. This guy has future superstar in his DNA man, just you wait.
Nope Mang As Andy said: "(PARA) Conditioning is his downfall." more time in the weighttoom, and trimming down a bit would boost his MPG to 32- 35, perhaps.
he needs to get in shape but that is not teat reason. The reason is that he was a backup center in the first half of the season. With an average of 14minutes. And when mid season Malone saw that he is by far the best player in his team he played rest of the season 35min avg. and 22poin avg.
Exactly. And he came into the league with no ESPN talking heads talking about how big his dick is. It takes the average fan a couple years to catch up to a player's actual value. Brand recognition goes a long way. See: Carmelo Anthony.
Personally with Jokic, Cousins, Gasol, and maybe KAT I can't. I'm not denying how good of a player he is, but there are players(namely Gasol and Jokic) who definitely deserved the recognition more.
Gasol DEFINITELY didn't deserve it over Jordan. Jordan was 1st in eFG%, 2nd in TS%, 2nd in TRB%, 1st in ORtg, 10th in DRtg, and 1st in WP48. The guy had an incredible season doing the same role that Tyson Chandler had on the 2011 Mavs and the 2013 Knicks, both great teams. Those players are extremely valuable. Cousins? He's basically Carmelo Anthony in a center's body. Overrated as fuck. Gasol is also a league-average scorer with good defensive metrics to back his claim. But he's not even top 5 centers in today's NBA. Gobert, Jordan, Whiteside, Jokic, Davis. Oh, and KAT.
Congratulations man, great and the most objective analysis of my favorite player! I've watched I think all of Jokic's videos and this one stands out because of how realistically analyzes the player. There are a lot of great ones too, but this one is the best! I've been watching Jokic since he was playing in our domestic country (I took his autograph on time) and I completely agree with you! You see just things better, congrats again and all the best from Serbia! p.s. you should be doing this professionally, so far you are better then all sports analysts and commentators I've seen and heard ;)
It's amazing how good a guy is when he's the main rebounder and main passer on the team. He gets a rebound and can immediately outlet pass for a fast break it's a huge positive to have.
2 years later and he's an MVP candidate leading the Nuggets to the second best record in the Western Conference while averaging 20/11/8 with much improved defense
i know that this sounds impossible right now..... but i want him on SPURS,... he suits perfectly in the team style of play... High IQ, plus his tremendous passing ability for a player his size...
The Spurs AND Warriors really fucked up by not drafting this guy. He's an obvious franchise player and there's no way he just "learned" this kind of court vision in the last two years. Totally missed opportunity by those teams to add a player that fits their motion offenses perfectly.
Harold Vergara as soon as Pau retires he is there. Pop is aware of our national team and our players alike..."If his name finishes with ic.. he can play..shoot whatever"
Nuggets won't let him go. He was more or less the only consistent player in the last season for them. When he was drafted, he was fat, big and slow. But he had talent, and the Nuggets recognized it. He was the 54th pick, and alongside Thomas one of the best last 10 picks of 2nd round.
I thought I was the only nigga who that he is a fucking underrated player. He's a fucking goat and people look over him. Jokic is one of my favorite players and will be an ALL-STAR one year.
Hi, great video, thank you. The fact that Jokic is the most athletic and great defending player is correct, but those two things have been what Jokic worked on for the whole summer. He even missed to play for Serbia in the European Championship because he dedicated the whole summer to his individual practices on those two elements of the game. So, feel free to count him in for the top ten players next year, of course if he is lucky to stay injury free :)
No, no worries, he is healthy. I spent my summer in Serbia and everyone was talking about him and looking forward to the next season and him showing more of his "magic". ;)
Jokic is a really good player right now. But his best quality to my eyes is he makes other players better. Not only with his passing, but with his screen setting and rolling/popping out of the pick and roll, situations which he has mastered. And his decision making is rare for a player his age. He actually isnt a bad defender, he just lacks the athleticism and conditioning right now. But he will be better this season. And we have to have in mind that the nuggets did not have great defensive talent last year, but with the addition of Milsap, I think that things are going to change dramatically for them on the defensive end of the floor.
Nikola Jokic despite of his young age plays like a 35-40 year old veteran like tim duncan and pau gasol. Imagine Jokic reaching on his prime and of his full level in athleticism, defense, inside and outside scoring, he could dominate the NBA like how magic johnson once did.
Hope you enjoyed the video! What does everyone think of Jokic? Will the Nuggets be a playoff team next year? They signed Millsap who's a great fit next to him and can cover his weaknesses on defense. Instagram: @Andy93y Twitter: @AndyHoopsYT
Andy Hoops Jokic, Sap, and Faried sounds decent; but, a backcourt to compliment them and keep the offense running is still needed. I wouldn't see them getting better than #10 and missing the playoffs by 6- 8 games.
Jokic´s passing skills remind me of Arvydas Sabonis. He also had that court vision, good hands and great decision making to put the ball in the right place at the right time.
Gotta disagree here with you. Jokic IS that kind of a beast. The minute average is cause he didnt start at the beginning of the season and sometimes foul trouble when he was finally starting. Apart from that offensively he was on a whole nother level. The advanced stats dont lie. If he has 82 games like he had his last 50, watch out. Keep up the great videos tho. Quality content
Watch his footwork in the post. 1on1 in the post he will get to the rim 100 times out of 100. Hes got great balance besided his footwork. So everytime a double team is coming over theres someone open. And he will find the open guy 100 times. That alone changes the whole nuggets game. He might be the best big in the league next season, i know how crazy that might sound. But if he worked on his stamina a bit and stays out of foul trouble you could get a statline like 25/12/6 with a TS% top 7 guy. Millsap will also be perfect next to him. If they develop some chemistry watch out for the nuggets.
Agree on his perimeter d, but taking curry as a reference to be guarding is like saying hes not capable of defending rubio on the perimeter. Hes very good defending the paint with his amazing balance and bball iq. His pnr defense will grow if he puts in work and chemistry. This kid is still only 21 and has a crazy impact on offense, which has a lot more value than defense.
Now jokics impact is great as a center picked in the second round of the draft he’s averaging 80% free throws and 30% three point percentage last year he was averaging 36% from three as a centre. No question he’s a great player in advanced stats and normal stats we look at. No question top ten player
spot on review. Jokic is a great player, with couple of big flaws/gaps. If he addresses his athleticism and his defense issues - he might even overachieve now already very high expectations (my guess is that defensively - he can get better quickly, but athleticism, at least the quickness and "explosion" will be more difficult to acquire for him [stamina shouldn't be a problem] - I hope I'm wrong). Anywho - I enjoy his every minute on the court, he's pure bb intelligence and feel and most importantly - he's always completely aware of everything on the court and his every team mate.
he's not just a top ten player, he's now the BEST ACTIVE PLAYER in the league 5 years after you posted this video. a 2 time mvp (should've been 3 consecutive), a finals mvp and a ring put him solidly in top 15 players to ever play the game.
I ran into an article that Joel Anthony was paid $3 million though he rarely played in 2010 season and that some who played more got less than that, like Jokic this season. So can you make a video about the highest paid benchwarmers of all time or at least the last season? Haven't found a video for that. Thanks.
Jokic could be a top 3 C in a few years, especially when you consider the era of basketball where in. Where small ball is taking over and becoming the primary play style for most teams.
Jokic is THE BEST young player in the league not named Giannis. There is no one I would rather build my team around because he will make everyone else better.
He's breaking advanced stats with his IQ and is underrated because he's not athletic, flashy dunker like the other centers. Everybody's forgetting the fact he is only 22yo, there's enough time for him to improve his physicality and be able to defend much better. He is already stronger, than last season, cause he was working on it. The only way is up, for him! P.S. I just saw this video is from september, few days ago he made the fastest triple double and broke record from 1955. ;)
I think you can make a great case for him being a top 20-25 player in the league. I think advanced stats are a great tool to gauge how good or bad a player is, but it's just a tool. I love advanced stats, but I don't like when people use them as gospel; the tell-all to a player's abilities and impact. While guys like Barkley are just old school dudes who have a bias against analytics, they also usually bring up a great point, and that is simply that you have to actually watch a player play to order to really see his true impact. Like advanced stats think Westbrook is garbage(relative to other top players). While I do think he's overrated, if you watch him play, you can't measure that veracity and can't deny that the way he plays has a huge impact on every game. But, honestly, like you said, if Jokic comes into next season in better shape and can play 32-34 minutes a game, I think he'll be an all-star. I mean, skill-wise, is he NOT a top 10 player? He really might be, it's still too early to tell. Every time I see him play I am shocked that his name isn't mentioned more. The dude can ball.
He's one of the most offensively gifted players in the league. He's crafty, he keeps the ball high, so defenders have a tough time blocking or changing his shot, and he's a great passer. If he could lose weight so he could stay on the court longer, and at least stay in front of people defensively, he will be a perennial all star, possibly even first or second team all nba.
he is not underrated, he is great player on defense (among the best in the league atm), but very limited on offense. No range, no pass, no playmaking ability, very few post moves, no boll control, no ''go to move''. Kinda useless if he doesnt get the lob dunk , or a putback. So he has MONSTER shooting % , and still he is not good at offense. So u r wrong , this stats only show that he is overrated on offense, and not underrated. All good on defense tho
actually i can believe that no one has ever had bigger influence on a team in their rookie season than him but i think thats all, thats why all these stats look so insanely good MJ, lebron and david robinson could have had like 12 BPM with this nuggets... this just means the nuggets was horrible and they found a leader who can show them how to be a team
The future of NBA big men are weird unicorns like Kristaps, jokic, KAT, Joel Embiid, and green, players who affect and play the game in ways you don’t expect big men to, don’t think we’ll be seeing any traditional bigs becoming the focal points of teams anymore
Good video man keep it up , horrible back ground instrumental try some modern trap type shit that's popular rn or even old school simple shit or classic hip hop any type of beat but this that's raw
Defense is so important to a center. They have to be able to contain a drive or if not that, contest a shot at the rim. Centers are generally the most important defensive players, and offensive oriented centers that cant defend dont get minutes like okafor and monroe. the fact that jokic gets minutes being a bad defensive player says something but he wont be a great player without being a decent defender.
I think Jokic is undeniably a top 25 player and a top 10 franchise player, if not arguably the best franchise player under 25 years old. His passing revamped the Nuggets offense and has the potential to revolutionize passing in the NBA (far more than overrated Lonzo don't @ me)
"In professional sports, a franchise player is an athlete who is not simply the best player on their team, but one that the team can build their "franchise" around for the foreseeable future. " -Wiki :D. I think in that regard Jokic is better than both KAT and AD. Sure I think they are better individually now but as a player you build around I'd take Jokic. And in both of those teams you got guys like DMC and Jimmy Buckets so its arguable.
I can see the argument for either of those based on just how beastly those guys are right now and have the potential to be in the future, but I think Jokic has shown that his impact on the Nuggets is unparalleled by other young players in terms of winning and playing better basketball.
Honestly honestly.... If I had a vote he would've been my All NBA 1st Selection for Center... I think he's better than Davis, Cousins, Whiteside and Deandre. I think Jokic, Nurkic and Karl Anthony-Towns are gonna be the All NBA Centers next season.
Jokic is underrated to the casual fans and overrated to those who only look at boxscores
Fax
His per 36 stats are 22, 13, 6, 1, and 1. If he could get those points up to 25 during his prime, dude's top five in a stacked NBA.
Aren't those who only look at box scores casual fans?
Only stats that really matter are Net Points...and Jokic is +6 net per 100 (that would be good for 3rd best differential in NBA after GSW and Spurs) while Nugets are - 6 net without him (3rd worst nba net, and consider that his backups were Nurkic and Mason Plumlee, 2 of better NBA centers, now THATS actually scary)...thats 12 points difference when he is off the court...he was rare NBA player with positive net on net negative team even in his rookie campaign...

Jokic is the reason I started watching Nuggets. He makes the game look fun
As a Celtics fan, whose team got murdered by the Nuggets on both games, yes, this team is on the rise of becoming an offensive juggernaut.

Not only with his passing, but with his screen setting and rolling/popping out of the pick and roll, situations which he has mastered. And his decision making is rare for a player his age. He actually isnt a bad defender, he just lacks the athleticism and conditioning right now. But he will be better this season. And we have to have in mind that the nuggets did not have great defensive talent last year, but with the addition of Milsap, I think that things are going to change dramatically for them on the defensive end of the floor.
anybody that plays fantasy should know this. He's been a monster ever since getting the nod over Laveurgne rookie year
Nikola Jokic despite of his young age plays like a 35-40 year old veteran like tim duncan and pau gasol. Imagine Jokic reaching on his prime and of his full level in athleticism, defense, inside and outside scoring, he could dominate the NBA like how magic johnson once did.
people need to recognize those european ballers and you are contributing it andy, really appreciate that
Hope he has at least same season as last and NUGG go to playoffs. Great video
THANK YOU ! JOKIC IS NOT TALKED ABOUT ENOUGH
Hope you enjoyed the video! What does everyone think of Jokic? Will the Nuggets be a playoff team next year? They signed Millsap who's a great fit next to him and can cover his weaknesses on defense.

Andy Hoops.he is overrated
Andy Hoops make a video of daimen lilerd
Daniel Livingston more like underrated
Andy Hoops Jokic, Sap, and Faried sounds decent;
but, a backcourt to compliment them and keep the offense running is still needed.
I wouldn't see them getting better than #10 and missing the playoffs by 6- 8 games.
we missed the playoffs by 1 game last year and we have gotten a lot better in the off season so for us to be out of the playoffs is a stretch
Jokic´s passing skills remind me of Arvydas Sabonis. He also had that court vision, good hands and great decision making to put the ball in the right place at the right time.
Please make a review now that the nuggets and which jokic's production this 2019 playoffs
This dude still beasting
You predicted it and i am loving it
Gotta disagree here with you.

He kinda had a disappointing season
Amazing Video Andy
You are the first youtuber that pronounced "Nikola" right
Im excited for the new season
You got like just bcoz youre my president:)!!!
Hehe thank you son
My favorite player
Jokic is the best young big in todays game imo
Great Video 👍
i have jokic on my fantasy team and cant be more excited
This video aged so good
He is just a smart player,he doesn't tako much shots, doesn't make silly passes and isn't trying to do it all by himself
Now hes on the verge of winning his first Finals. Hes been the best player in the NBA for a while now. Nikola is legit unguardable.
Now he's the best center in the league. 💪
Where small ball is taking over and becoming the primary play style for most teams.
lMAO now he is a top 3 player
Great video! I didn't know much about him. I wanna watch him now. Nuggets got Millsap now too! =D
I'm watching this in May 2019 and damn it maaan. He is a beast 💪 and these stats are saying a lot
Been here since 5k,Keep it up soon you'll be like Korzemba :D
Andy mark my words this man the future
First European EVER, in his second season, to finish regular season with 6 triple doubles !!!
You mean triple doubles.
yes sorry
Nikola Jokic 2020 NBA MVP
1 year off but holy shit
Jokic is THE BEST young player in the league not named Giannis. There is no one I would rather build my team around because he will make everyone else better.
AD
DKM Davis is about to lose his playoff spot to the nuggets tho
He's breaking advanced stats with his IQ and is underrated because he's not athletic, flashy dunker like the other centers. Everybody's forgetting the fact he is only 22yo, there's enough time for him to improve his physicality and be able to defend much better. He is already stronger, than last season, cause he was working on it. The only way is up, for him!
P.S. I just saw this video is from september, few days ago he made the fastest triple double and broke record from 1955. ;)
SoulFullOfMusic81 What are you talking about? Jokic is the flashiest player in the league.
His is going to be one of the greatest players that NBA had ever seen once his career is over
I think you can make a great case for him being a top 20-25 player in the league.
How are the stats looking now!? Advanced stats nailed this one, Denver without a doubt has a top 5 NBA player
And he was even better this year
Well, he's an all-star now, I guess advanced stats don't lie
Jokiccc in 2021 is a beast!!!
he did something even more amazing...
hmmmm. stats say hes a top 10 player. he passes the eye test. hes the best player on the best offense. but nah hes not top 10 because reasons.
Your growth has been large after that lbj video
Aly3 Mavs Which video?
Damn now he’s a consensus top 10 offensive player ever. If the stats tell you something, believe it
Gang 💯💯💯🏀
Now hes a nba champion congrats
Now he is a top 5 NBA player
nice vid... you had to say something bout an injury eh -_-' ... he is on my fantasy..lol
FATHER!!!! Carry us to the playoffs
Jokic is a monster and i expect for him to get better this year, I bet a guy today 100 dollars Denver makes the playoffs.
Now he is a star
Imagine a player with Jokic's offence and Gobert's defence.
Madness.
Sup Andy love your vids I know I'm early
Andy knew something we didn’t…
From those stats you can see that Rudy Gobert is underrated
haha yeah, but I think people have started to appreciate Gobert a lot more recently
Nassim El Ansari gobert is fucking garbage, I'm not gonna lie he's a beast on defense but he's so slow and hard to watch. But I respect
he is not underrated, he is great player on defense (among the best in the league atm), but very limited on offense.
Gobert is going to take a big step this year. It will be the first time he has played with a pass first PG.
Me looking at this in 2022 lol
actually i can believe that no one has ever had bigger influence on a team in their rookie season than him
but i think thats all, thats why all these stats look so insanely good
MJ, lebron and david robinson could have had like 12 BPM with this nuggets...
this just means the nuggets was horrible and they found a leader who can show them how to be a team
Hehe
Jokic is a monster!
This aged very very very well
The future of NBA big men are weird unicorns like Kristaps, jokic, KAT, Joel Embiid, and green, players who affect and play the game in ways you don’t expect big men to, don’t think we’ll be seeing any traditional bigs becoming the focal points of teams anymore
His passing revamped the Nuggets offense and has the potential to revolutionize passing in the NBA (far more than overrated Lonzo don't @ me)
I'd still say the best franchise players under 25 would have Davis and KAT ahead of him
"In professional sports, a franchise player is an athlete who is not simply the best player on their team, but one that the team can build their "franchise" around for the foreseeable future.
Giannis easily
chogathsnutsack g
yeeeeah ! fellow europeans where ya at?! 💪🏼😄
What about Gobert? He will score more this year as Gordon is gone. Still the best defensive big in the game.
NOTIFICATION GANG💯💯💯
