By thexway Brant, youve inspired me as a older dude to get back out and ride again, seeing my city built a 3.5 million dollar park. (Concrete, with pool, several small quarters its pretty wild), BUT NO DAMN WALL TO RIDE 😂. Thank you for these dope videos. Im constantly watching, learning and absorbing the info to be able to measure my success from learning from you.
It really is mind blowing when you look at how it works and everything. I've been riding this style of hub for over a year and it still feels like magic to me.
So you're saying that I won't need to pedal while riding fakie and I could still cheat with using pedal pressure on several tricks? Damn, I need to buy this asap
BSD should make a 16 tooth driver for this. I would buy it today, but my bike can't use a 9 tooth driver. It would be easy for them to make an optional 16 tooth driver.
Hey I just like to mention mine silent is that normal everybody else has seems to make noise I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong or if you guys are doing something to make it louder because personally I like loud hubs
I was really curious if there would be a difference and it seems like it's marginal at best, so I'm not missing out with the OG freenight. Real happy that BSD can take this tech I've been telling people about the past year and a half to the masses.
I'm not sure what to call the trick in the thumbnail but it's dailed. I got another trick for now till I put a video going in depth about that one insane trick, can you do a nose pick grind (front peg grind) can-cam. Not a nose pick grind and can-cam out. FOOT OUT TOWARDS THE RAMP FOR IT NO SLACKING.
It depends on how you do it. If the wheel ends up rotating forward in the process, yes. As soon as the wheel is rotating forward again it goes back into cassette mode again
Not exactly. There’s tricks to it that could make something work but if you think about trying to do that while freecoasting it kinda doesn’t make sense how it would work anyway.
Mine makes a horrible loud "click" noise every so often when I land in fakie. Anyone else? Can't find reviews for it anywhere to see how well these are holding up for other riders...
Update:i commented on a vid awhile back saying i wanted to learn Smith to feebles and fly out 360s. I started trying to learn fly out 360s. Took maybe a week before I was getting almost all the way around. Then i landed a few. Then I had a bad crash 😢. Broke my arm. Was trying a 360 and just messed up in the wost way. My back tire didn't clear the lip of the landing, so I did a 180 then my back tire clipped and i had commited super hard to the spin so it just threw me onto my arm and SNAP. Had to get surgery to have a metal plate and screws put it. Pretty sad. The 360 is like my dream trick and now its going to be a mental battle to even try it again. I'm itching to get back on my bike but nervous. A couple people who supported me in my bike riding are now pretty much telling me at 32 im too old and that I should stop. I've got to get back on the bike for my mental stability😅. I don't want to be thinking about brraking my arm forever. I got to get back on the bike and get over it. Sorry for the long story thats irrelevant to this video😅
I'm 41 years old. I started to learn 180 flyout and hurt my wrist a little in the last session ... I will rest for a few days and get back to training. I know that if I get hurt I may not be able to ride BMX anymore, so I'll take it easy ... I'm 41, but I'm not Ryan Nyquist ...
If you take care of yourself and get the right vitamins and things, you can ride and learn far beyond 30/40!!! There’s a rider who started at 62 and is 68 now! Sorry to hear about your arm man, that’s a bummer. Don’t let it slow you down though. It’ll heal and sometimes freak accidents happen. Hoping for the best!
@@Brant_Moore That 68 year old guy can fly out 360! He's the man and for sure inspires me to want to get back to it as soon as possible. It really was a freak accident. Figured I'd injury something on my leg some day...not break my arm 😅. Thanks for responding Brant. You are the nicest dude in bmx. Cant wait for my no promises dvd to come. Wanna see your wild ass put your peg in some coping haha.
Dude right? He’s so inspiring. The freak accidents happen but getting past them is the important part. I always try to respond and hopefully the dvd will be there Saturday! It went out on Tuesday. Hope you enjoy man and thank you!
@@Brant_Moore like pedaling forward while rolling back should disengage the freecoasting so you can turn around on pedal pressure? But you can pedal forward on these hubs while going backwards And like in the video couldn't really get it to engage going backwards which is what cassette and classic freecoaster can do when you turn around a fakie
@@Brant_Moore yes I understand that but I feel it's missing one of the components that other hubs have with that I would have to test one out to see if I like it because I don't like doing high speed fakies on a cassette remembering to back pedal before you land but also would have to re learn fakie in general without pedal pressure On my scooter I kinda just do sliders for that reason
wasn't that the idea? be able to go backwards no matter where the cranks are. the problem of having a back wheel "lock up" the second cranks go into the wrong position as been solved.
Thanks again Brant!
❤️❤️
I've been waiting on this, and it was totally worth the wait! I'll be riding my FN until it breaks, but this was so informative!!!
Heck yea thanks for watching man! Can’t go wrong with the free night
Your cranking the content out bro. Your killing it!!
Thanks man. Trying my best.
The thing is in the imprimatur podcast. It might not be online anymore
This is what I was waiting for, made my day :)
Glad to hear it!!!

Hell yes man I love to hear that!!! How's it going so far for you?
Hell yea dude. Pre ordered the BSD after seeing previous vids of the freenight. Seems you can't go wrong with either. Big ups to Tal and BSD.
@2:33 Interesting. I stopped riding mine because it engaged so often. I guess I'll throw it back on and break it in like you said.
This blows my mind this is so rad
It really is mind blowing when you look at how it works and everything. I've been riding this style of hub for over a year and it still feels like magic to me.
That’s it! I’m switching to this freecoaster 😆
Been waiting for this

was waiting for this video!!!!!!
Hope it didn’t disappoint!

@@Brant_Mooreyea dude keep it up !!
Well I THOUGHT I would never get a freecoaster...
Hahaha right?! That’s what I thought before the free night came out
Same. Now I’m interested.
@@punisher9oneone Good luck in finding the BSD one
@@sole__doubt oh I know. Hoping some time next spring/summer.

I look safer from a life changing head injury too.
Thanks for the kind words at the end though
Nah, people who don’t wear helmets look funny
Sir, this is dark majik you speak of..... 👍🙏🇬🇧
Haha yep it is!
It sounds good and looks good. With your stalls you are going to put your feet where ever you need them for even more balance.
1:29 How come you didn’t use the hub guards that come with it 🤔?
I know the ones that came with mine run too tight against my shadow half link chain so I currently don't have a guard on driver side 😬
@@sethbasom4669 I just got a Grinder out and made it a bit wider so it doesn’t rub against my shadow supreme chain 👍

Pretty sure 13 tooth is a possibility. 36 up front wouldn't look like an abomination.
Just got mine but need to lace it up.
So I dont personally have one but I'm pretty sure to get it to engage you have to pedal faster than its coasting
Hey I just like to mention mine silent is that normal everybody else has seems to make noise I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong or if you guys are doing something to make it louder because personally I like loud hubs
it usually gets louder after a while when the grease spreads out a bit
@@nightriderbmxshop6768 thanks man I can kinda hear it but it is sooooo silent idk it works and that's all that matters

What is the engagement like compared to a z coaster? More or less slack while clicking?
I would guess comparable as they both have 3 pawls. The BSD definitely has quicker engagement while cassetting than the free night
Old school rider getting back into it.. are chain tensioners not a thing anymore?
People don't really use the ones that go on the axle for freestyle anymore. They're usually built into the dropouts on a frame these days.
I may sound like a broken record but I need one of these In my life!
Nice video. Thanks
I wander how it would be with even more pawls or a toothed pawl like the colony wasps. The engagement would be superior ?
It would just make it heavier, as they all grab at the same time.
😎👍 I'm wondering once you break it in it's probably going to be even better
What happens if you stop the wheel with brakes before pedal pressure trick?
My FreeNight broke today 😭😭😭 won't engage at all anymore, but the mechanics still work inside it
have you tried the aliennation carbon fiber rims ?
My revolution hub makes these popping noises when I torque the crank. Is this normal or is mine in need of adjustment?
When you are on a fakie try to pedal back, it should engage.
Yeah I don't know why he didn't let his buddy do it
rolling backwards and spinning the cranks forwards tottaly looks like you are moonwalking bike.
Right? Can’t believe I never messed with it before
Guess these hubs are the ticket to being able to crank flip both fakie and regular.
What is specifically happening during break in period?
I'm not sure what to call the trick in the thumbnail but it's dailed. I got another trick for now till I put a video going in depth about that one insane trick, can you do a nose pick grind (front peg grind) can-cam. Not a nose pick grind and can-cam out. Would I be able to Full cab with pedal pressure on this hub
It depends on how you do it. If the wheel ends up rotating forward in the process, yes. As soon as the wheel is rotating forward again it goes back into cassette mode again
@@Brant_Moore thanks!
It seems bsd is hands on for FN and just making it bigger.
What spoke sizes did you use?
184mm on both sides
Your chain is proper loose on the OG hub and tight as, on the BSD.
Nah I made sure they were about the same, and even with it more loose it still does the same thing
Skip to 5:20 and you’ll see what I mean. When you’re spinning the wheel for the sound comparison it’s really noticeable.
He probably just threw the old whee back on for a minute just for that comparison
I didn’t, but the BSD still doesn’t double crank flip yet
Damn! I need one of these.
I'm curious how a fakie hop E.T. feels with this hub
Probably not very good. It’ll most likely try to engage from pedaling so hard and fast
So you can’t use pedal pressure to halfcab or full cab?
Not exactly. There’s tricks to it that could make something work but if you think about trying to do that while freecoasting it kinda doesn’t make sense how it would work anyway.
Mine makes a horrible loud "click" noise every so often when I land in fakie. Anyone else? Can't find reviews for it anywhere to see how well these are holding up for other riders...
I don’t have that when I land in a fakie ever. Sometimes it clicks when pedaling forward in awkward situations
Cool hub. on a different note, how's the sprocket holding up? Im thinking of investing in one.
I just bought one a week ago it’s still not here😪
Yeah man after a while the bearings will run better after they are well broken in.
Is there a price difference between the BSD and the free night ? And are they gonna only make one or the other? Or is it just a branded thing
No difference in price, both are US$240
Whoa
Bearings are new they will brake in propubly and crankflips will become better
They already started to the second time I rode it, I think you’re rifht
Why are those planetaries sooo damn squeaky when they go to engage i wanna say????
Watch my updated Planetary maintenance video. It shows how to fix that
I have freenight now,so with a freecoaster do i need to run a loser chain??
No you can run it however you like with the free night or BSD
Yo are u in wooster I live there homie
I want one but using my tsc raptor coaster until it explodes
Does it crankflip effortlessly like with a regular cassette hub? That's my biggest problem with moving to this new hub
Did you even watch the video? Haha
