  • After becoming the first person to ski the Seven Summits, team athlete Kit DesLauriers found herself searching for purpose beyond herself. And through an epic adventure of athleticism, survival, and conservation, she found it. Beyond the Summit explores her two weeks of traversing the arctic on skis, telling the story of a diminishing snowpack in one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the world-the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
    Directed by Natasha Mynhier, Co-Directed by Nate Luebbe, Produced by Rachel Nederveld, Edited by Eli James, Score by Andy Marsh, Director of Photography: Fisher Creative, Production Company: 37Laines

    One thing we don't focus on enough... are the wins for the climate and for our planet. While this feels like a small win, it's still a win to protect one of the most beautiful places on earth. Love the story telling, so well captured & felt super inspired after watching this.

      I see your point, I really do. I hear you saying how we complain but are unwilling to let our consumption of oil go. And it's a valid point we all need to address within ourselves. But it's just one side, demand side. This film addresses the supply side. And I must say: CO2 releasing at this level with the destruction of the permafrost = too costly. No drilling here, not worth the expense to the planet and all species

    I’m a little conflicted, she spent most of her career jetting around to ski mountains and then she became concerned about the environment. I also agree we shouldn’t be drilling there and I do my part to fuel demand as well.
    Drilling in the arctic is a reaction to American president approval dropping every time gas prices go down. This will be harder to change. The arctic has one thing going for it. Getting oil from there is much more expensive than buying it from the Saudi’s.

    • @vanfja
      @vanfja Год назад

      Everyone always forgets this type of concern when their lifestyle or wallets are threatened. Look at Europe now, they are opening up nee coal plants and scrambling to drill in their arctic regions.

    How come, to me at least, it appears that the people who ski down the mountains have a better and safer time going to the summits, than many people have who are only going up and coming down the most common way?

    • @jenniferlynne3314
      @jenniferlynne3314 Год назад

      It’s quicker to ski down and decreases the time on the mountain which means there is less of a window for anything to happen. Also, there is an intense amount of planning and preparation that goes into it. They don’t just get to the top and throw their skis on and take off. It takes several weeks to climb these mountains, and then entire time they are checking snow conditions, weather conditions and making sure their route down is as safe as possible. It also helps that most have decades of experience.
