I free-soloed the East Buttress of Mt. Whitney twice. It's only about 5.7 but it was fun, no rope, no partner, and I seen all kinds of holds and options that I never seen the three times I was leading on a rope. It really opened my eyes and heighten my senses.
Beginner climber recently just started and suffering with a wrist injury . Does anybody know how long this can last for as I’m really missing going bouldering
the worst thing you could do is wait and do nothing. Look on youtube for exercises, there are lots of them, and go back to bouldering, only doing non-risky moves that do not hurt.
I used to want to expand the sport until it became cool and the wrong people that have zero respect for the rock and other climbers showed up to the crag. Now I'd say only climb if you're compelled to do it and actually see nature as your home, trend followers need to stay in the cities.
Yeah I'm also a boulderer who hates heights. Took me like a year until I tried to topout and jump down from up high. Now I am super comfortable but.. I won't trad climb ever probably hahaha
Funny you say that. Apparently doctors scanned this dude's brain and the part of the brain that triggers a fear response just straight up... didn't work. Bro doesn't feel fear because he c a n ' t
I think any footage of Alex honnold should come with a "danger: gravity" warning 😂 This was way too casual showing him freesolo on cliff edges with a caption like "come on its climbing day are you joining us or what?"
I’m a newbie tree climber and this was actually very applicable advice for me. I just realized I’m leaning too much into the tree and if I leaned back more on my lanyard it would be much more secure
Every time (every time, seriously) I watch Alex free soloing, my hands start sweating. I just can't comprehend this man's lack of fear. Nothing else makes my hands sweat, just by watching it.
@@gregory7632 not a deficiency, a lower response to stimuli. And science is nowhere near knowing whether he was born that way or whether it is the result of decades of climbing.
As a certified rock climbing instructor, I really wish they wouldn't use Honnold as the face of climbing, or having him teach technique. I have enormous respect for the man and his achievements, and realize that how he does things works for him. I'm just afraid that others won't understand what an absolute unicorn this man is, and how many like him never made it to fame because a minor unforeseeable problem killed them. Don't freesolo, people. Go take a class in proper safety techniques from a certified instructor, and never make the mistake of believing you're the next Alex Honnold.
Alex Honnold, for me HE is the one and only (no doubt there are others). I was watching his 2018 Oscar award documentary Solo with my sweaty palms sitting on my couch while Alex was chilling out climbing El Capitan without ropes. Even doctors said he's more unique than uniques, having low heart rates while climbing thousands of feet up vertically.
Mikey just wasn’t at the caliber to climb this one, nor el cap. I think he’s a great climber, but for easier climbs. He doesn’t have the experience or greatness as Alex, and because of this, he almost brought the exhibition to its end. Alex is a different breed and for the next time needs to choose climbers the same caliber as himself
He once told the story of him soloing Halfdome, when he was scared to stand up in a foothold he thought was too small. Watching the footholds in this video, I cannot fathom how tiny said foothold had to have been for him to feel anxious.
teaching while freesoloing😂
That’s why he’s a legend! 😂🐐
This guy lives literally on the edge..
How about in Free Solo when his girlfriend let go of the safety rope 😱😱😱

To be fair he's probably only 800ft up when demonstrating
Freesoloing is a great strategy for becoming a lifelong climber 👍🏻
I see what you did there. Great observation (and true)...
hahahaha
true💀

Gonna climb till the very end
I like how he dangles his feet for dramatic effect then proceeds to put his feet back on to non-existent foot holds. 😂
😂😂😂😂
While he is free soloing omg
I found it interesting how he was slightly mocking the fear of falling while in that position.

He has a Documentary out - Free Solo. Really enjoyed it. Dude is on another level. Id say genius in his own right.
My hands and feet are tingling just from watching this.
The most chill guy, and the bravest one 😂😂
I'm afraid of hights, this guy is something else i wish i've had 10% of his skill and not being scared of hights or fall 🤦😉
The GOAT!!!
Ok but he’s JACKED now I’ve followed Alex for a long time. I have never seen him so big.
For some reason everytime I see / hear Alex my hands start sweating :)
I freaking love watching Honnold climb even though it makes my palms sweat. I just hope I don’t hear of the one mistake he made any time soon.
i love you honnold!!!!!!!!!
My legs are shivering 😅
Alex Honnald is the literal GOAT.
Just watching him makes my palms sweat...
Seriously 😂
I watched his VR movie at a friends and i had much more than my hands sweating in the end :)
He's like spiderman.
Wish there was a climbing gym in my country man.

Alex looks and talks like your best friend. Like you have always known him. There's sth really mystical about this man.
he actually is like the rock climbing friend who shows you how to be passionate about it
My fiancé introduced me to climbing this year and I've been going with her to the climbing centre every week and I love it.

I’m 12 and I just started climbing
He looks so happy
I don’t care how impressive he is at climbing. I do care on how he’s so fearless at it

Technically all free soloers are lifelong climbers because they will die climbing
To be clear, usually you dont climbe that high without a rope.
Fuck this savage he's literally teaching us what NOT to do while freesoloing :sob:
I like watching this young man climb
this guy is insane
that's it. that's the comment
The thing is, he is actually chilling up there. I just can't grasp it. How is he playing around acting all dramatic upon the wall.

You don’t need to free solo to enjoy climbing. Get out there on some boulders or ropes. It’s very safe and great fun.
