- Upgrading the HP 250 G6 laptop with a 500GB SSD and additional 4GB DDR4 RAM.
This is a fairly simple job, requiring only a small Philips head screwdriver and a plastic pry tool.
Parts fitted:
Sandisk Ultra 3D SSD 500GB: amzn.to/2GtlwXj
Crucial 4GB DDR-2400 RAM: amzn.to/2GssyeF
The HP 250 G6 Service Manual can be found here: h10032.www1.hp....
This was a great video, made getting the laptop open a much easier process.. RAM and SSD now upgraded - the laptop is now usable in Windows 10!
Glad it helped!
I just installed ram on mine, this video was very helpful thank you very much. BTW for all of you that have the 14 inch model is no needed to take off the rubber feet, there no screws in them.
Señor S thanks I was trying to figure how to take them off
sorry to be off topic but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Jaylen Damari I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jaylen Damari it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
@Ryder Julien glad I could help xD
Thank you so much for posting this. Just opened my laptop to get the dust out of a noisy fan. There's no way I would've attempted opening it without your video
Glad it helped!
i opened my laptop before watching this and i broke the case lol
Thank you. Just swapped out my son's old HDD for a new SSD by following this video. Most helpful.
Great to hear!
I added 4 Gb RAM to my 4 Gb, now it's 8 Gb and it works as dual channel. Before upgrading anyone has to look at their model of memory and highly recommended to add the same RAM as you have already
Great stuff!
@@BrueComputing m
thank you man I have been trying to add ram to my laptop but I had no idea about the hidden screws, may God bless you brother🙏
Glad it helped!
Thanks. I found your video when I tried to add memory. Your explanation is so detailed and clear !
Glad it helped!
Used an old plastic card to pry open the plastic cover. A very useful video. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thanks man, you gave me the missing piece of the puzzle with your tip of the screws under the rubber.
Glad it helped.
The case is a pain to get off
Acer is far worse
THANK YOU
Good video, I just added another 8gb to my friends laptop - his had an M.2 slot on the board, as you surmised, and also an m.2 caddy instead of a SATA one. I check both slots, both about 550 MB/s.
Thanks, very useful video instruction!! After watching it i was able to upgrade my notebook quickly!!
Gracias, me sirvió para cambiar el disco. No encontraba un buen video donde explicasen como se cambia.
Thanks for your tutorial, was very helpful. To open the laptop case with an opener require gentle touch and know where to do pressure or leverage.
Thank you for this tutorial i managed to change my HDD whit a SSD, and put another ram memory inn.
Glad it helped

Thanks for the help 👍🏼 great video
I basically wanted to know whether I have to remove and replace the screen. Thank you this clip has made it very clear.
I like working on towers and am not used to laptops. Once again, Thank You!
Glad it helped!
Thank you James !perfect manipulation and comments :)
So they designed it so you can easily remove/replace the DVD but you have to "crack it open" in order to replace HDD and Ram. Go figure. Well done video thanks for sharing.
Pretty standard for modern laptops now unfortunately.
@@BrueComputing Yes, very poor engineering last years...to disassembly something you need power aka Avengers
Great video ! I followed it step by step and I upgraded my son's laptop !! Greetings from Hellas !
Thank you James this video was very helpful
Thanks James, great video and instructions, those last clips near the battery are a right pain to release but took it nice and slow and job done 👍
Nice, I got the 14 inch one, this will be very helpful
Is this model upgradable to 1tb SSD? and what is the maximum RAM capacity for this device?
Thank you, i found m2 slot so upgrade incoming
Glad I could help
とても勉強になりました!どうもありがとうございます!!
thank you so much from Turkey
No problem 😊
Very helpful to do not distroy the plastic cover.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! :-)
Excellent video. Clear n precise. Good job.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a lot! and that's how it is done.
Glad it helped!
I have 1tb hdd. Can i have ssd and hdd at the same time,?
Thanks mate! Just did it today, flawless
Hi Thanks for your video and show step by step upgrade the Ram and Hard disk. I have a HP 255 G^ with 4G RAM, may I ask can I add 8G Ram into the spare slot and make a total of 12G Ram?
Thank You and looking forward to hear from you.
Yes
Question can this laptop only handle the 500gb ssd and 4g of Ram or can it go higher than that??
You can add more storage & RAM to it as you feel fit. In terms of RAM I believe the maximum is 2x 16GB SODIMMs, 32GB in total.
okay so i’m hoping this question we’ll get answered today 🤞 cause i badly need a tech’s info, i’m about to upgrade my HP laptop 250 g6 with a processor intel core i3 6006u cpu to 2400mhz ddr4 8gb sodimm ram. would that work? cause i’ve been reasearching and half i found is yes and half is not. so i’m in the verge of choosing if the money will get wasted or not 🥺
A 2400MHz SODIMM should work fine. It'll only run at 2133MHz though as that is the maximum official speed the i3-6006U can work at.
Obrigado!
Thanks for the video! VEry helpful. I'm adding memory, also. That looks like a ....project!
Best Video, thanks for Tour explanation.
Thank you for this video!
thanks for the guide
hi! I have the ph 250 g6, can I add a second SATA disk to the pc? through a caddy replacing the dvd player
EXELENT VIDEO .. thank you for sharing..
Thanks for watching!
I have one of these laptops from 2018 and it worked so well for everything, a true veteran and I have a silly sentimental attachment to it. Toward the end of 2021 its performance dropped though, I think the HDD got heat damaged from me working outside with the computer (the sun got this thing so hot I've burned myself on the touchpad).
Do you think replacing the hard drive with a solid state type would deal with the issue? I'm also a bit freaked out about it now because a friend has the same model which also slowed down to unusable but it might've already been like that from the start.
I wouldn't call this a simple job if you have a metallic case. It is very hard to remove the cover without damaging or scratching the plastic - there are a large number of clips around the edge. Also, on some models, HP puts the M.2 SSD in a bracket where the 2.5 hard drive should be, presumably just to make it difficult to upgrade.
Thank god they changed their machines to be more upgrade-friendly. Those HP Mini PC's are very upgrade-able and just require 1 thumb screw to open up
Hello james it's a great video η helped me to change SSD. What kind of ram must I buy.Ddr4 or ddr3? Could you ride the details of the ram. I have the same laptop 250 HP g6. Thank you very much
I also have the same HP 250 G6 laptop, but I can't find out the maximum RAM that I can install on this laptop. I have a 4GB DDR4 2400Mhz installed. Please help.
I got the version without the dvd drive and it took me 30 minutes to open it. Pretty frustrating. There is a plastic catch in the middle near the hdd that can't be opened without breaking. I hate that nowdays you have to open the case to change the drive.
Great video. Thanks
Life saver!!
Excellent video! One question. How much is the maximum that ram supports?
Depending on the model either 16GB or 32GB.
Thank you for this video!!!! 👍🏼👋🏼🙃🙂😶🇨🇦🏍️🇵🇭🛵🇺🇸📸📹👍🏼
Thank you so much .i added ram.
Hi James, I'm from Argentina and I have the same laptop, I want to know if you can put a memory ssd m.2 in that laptop model? I loved the video!!! Thank you!!
No bro there is no slot for m.2 in this
Loptop becouse I also have the same one.
Thank you so much, your video saved my life❤

Great video. Can I install M.2 SSD? I have HP 250 6G
Great video. When you change the RAM DDR4 does it need to be the same brand and MHz ? I want to change on mine that has a DDR4 1866MHz but the new one is of frequency 2100MHZ. Do i need to change both the DDR4 in this case?
You should be able to fit a higher speed module, it'll just run at the lower speed.
@@BrueComputing Thanks - Can you have 2 8GB DDR4 on a HP255 G6 ? Or is maximum 8GB in total--2 times 4GB DDR4 ?
2 x 8GB should work fine.
hi, thank you so much for the video! can i use the HDD i took out as an external one to run my games? would it work fast enough? i'm asking this bc i need 1 tb for the amount of games i play but a 1 tb SSD is way too expensive for me, so I'm gonna buy an 128 one just for windows.
Please help : My already installed RAM on my HP 250 G6 is 4GB with speed 2133 which i can't see on the Amazon link you provided .the RAM upgrade must be 2133 or can i install 2400 MT/s instead ?Can I use this Crucial CT8G4SFS8266 8 GB (DDR4, 2666 MT/s, PC4-21300, Single Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Pin) Memory ?Many thanks for your help
I have 250 g6 ddr3 2133 MHz
I3 6006u
Thank you very much.I will do that.Cheers
Thanks very usefull
Glad it was helpful!
I'm currently working on this same model laptop, but it doesn't have a fan, just a heatsink piece of aluminum.
Guessing your laptop is using a 6W Celeron or 10W Pentium chip, not a 15W+ Core i3/i5? The lower power models don't have a fan.
Hi, thanks you James, very useful video. I have put a SSD instead HDD. Is possible put the HDD in the place used for DVD? If is possible, what caddy you can recommend me? Regards.
Thanks
hi! im a problem with connector power jack intern - i have Hp 250 G6 SSD notebook Sep 2019 - somewhere its works somewhere not. i think only need to change the power cable. you know a tutorial to replace ? thanks
Hallo James!
I just purchased the Hp 250 G6 (3VK25EA).
Can you tell me if i can upgrade my ram?
It is very difficult for me to find this information at the HP service guide.
Very nice work.
Thank you!
It is possible to do so, but it's not easy. These do come with 8 gigabytes though which is usually enough to run most of everything (including Warthunder with the Intel i3 which is crazy)
I have this model and looking to upgrade to SSD with additional RAM, so I found your video very useful, thanks. However if I didn't choose the Sandisk option what cloning software would you recommend (are free ones OK?)
I normally use TrueImage 2018.
@@BrueComputing Just an update. I eventually bought myself a SanDisk 3D Ultra SSD and a cheap £5 cable to clone it from my laptop. I used a free software called Macrium Reflect and it took about 50 minutes to clone just over 200GB of OS and data to my new SSD . The difference between the old cheap Seagate HDD and the new SanDisk SSD is astonishing, so much faster etc. So simple to do also, the hardest part was actually getting the laptop opened up without breaking anything, a bit fiddly and tricky but OK with a bit of patience. Many thanks.
what do I do when the screws on the metal plate holding the harddrive is too tight and I can't apply a lot of pressure in case it breaks the drive?
HP 250 G6 Notebook, Intel Core i7-7500U, 8 GB di RAM, SSD da 256 GB, Display 15.6", is my computer. Is it possible to upgrade the RAM and the SSD, and if so, to which kind of RAM?
Thanks.
Yes. It uses DDR4-2400 modules (link in the description) although you can fit 2666/3200 modules, they'll just run at the lower speed.
Hey I bought yesterday the Hp 250 g6 i3 and have now read that a PWM flicker with a frequency of 2500 Hz produced you would advise me to buy one with a higher Hz or sounds worse than it is. Many Thanks
Hi James could you please provide the link for the video showing how to setup the UEFI installer you mention in this video?
ruclips.net/video/ic5vSYCaay8/видео.html
Or use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool
Can you please help advise how to get into the BIOS screen after the upgrade? My laptop is just showing a blank screen.
2400 mhz, bro?
is it "HP 250 G6
Intel(R) Core TM13-6006U?
Yes
The keyboard of my pavilion 250 G6 is not working properly the letters are working but the function keys, page up down plus some other keys are not working.
What could be the cause? What shld i do??
Hello, I have the NOTEBOOK HP 250 G7 153B9LT 15.6 / I5-1035G1 / 4 / 1TB / DOS. And I want to add 8gb of RAM to it. That is, it already has 4gb to DDR4-2666 and I want to add another 8gb DDR4-2666 module, in total 12gb. The technical question is the following:
Is this 12gb combination (4gb DDR4-2666 + 8gb DDR4-2666) going to work at the speed of 2666 or 2400?
Because someone told me that this configuration of 4 + 8 in this notebook works at 2400 but if I put 8 + 8 it works at 2600.
Could you confirm how fast the 4gb 2666 + 8gb 2666 combination works? 2666 or 2400?
Thank you, I await your reply.
Great and helpfull video.
I do have the same laptop, but with an 1tb HD. Bit i still want to Change it to a SSD.
About RAM. It looks like that the max capacity is 8GB i Guess it is include the 4 GB theres allready in the computer. What Will happen if i install 8 GB ?
It'll run 8GB modules just fine.
Hello, I'm trying to open this laptop and I can't remove the plactic cover. I have removed all screws and those plastic clips aren't holding the cover. It looks like the only thing that it holds is a VGA port as I can't pull the plastic cover over it. What should I do? It also feels a little bit that it's being held by something inside, but there are no screw left, so it's maybe just na odd feeling. What should I do? Apply more force?
There may be clicks that would open up the back side....no force only look for clicks .
@@bigfred8495 Hello, clips around the edges are released, may you elaborate where to look for the others that may not be released?, or how to achieve their releasing?
Is the cpu integrated into the motherboard?
Yes - this is the case with any modern laptops, bar a few high-end gaming laptops which use desktop components.
@@BrueComputing Oh right, I saw that some similar models had a ryzen 3 but it doesn't seem too upgradable except for the memory and secondary storage.
You'd have to replace the entire mainboard, as the CPU is soldered to it. Its not really economical to do this in most cases.
@@BrueComputing Thanks for the advice! I'm gonna sub :)
Glad to help! :)
very useful video,i like it
Thanks
Is it possible to upgrade the processor of this laptop?
Only by replacing the mainboard.
Thanks for video mate, Can I upgrade graphics with independent grapich card to this notebook?
No, there is no internal MXM module or external Thunderbolt connector.
Hi, any guide to install OS on the new ssd replaced from hdd on this same model laptop..? Thank you
hi, i have a question, can you put a 4gb ram ddr4 memory but with 2666mhz?
How much did everything cost you?
Hi, I have the same hp model. I've been trying to upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1 pro but it does not allow me to, it keeps on showing red lines on the screen. Is a problem with hard drive or what? And I can't even activate windows at all
hi I have the 1tb version of this and wanted to add more ram but after removing all screws and unclipping all edges can still not remove the bottom from the laptop it seems to be stuck in the middle somewhere? any ideas please. its brand new so scared of breaking something
I had the same issue. I think there may be some kind of adhesive in the middle. Just make sure you go around the outside and undo every clip then apply some pressure and it should come off
