@@tadtacosinc According to Bulbapedia, there are 524 evolution lines in Pokemon. Skyen has probably covered something like 50 by now. A new Pokemon short is uploaded on this channel every 4 days or so. Therefore, we can expect TB Skyen to catch up on the current run of Pokemon designs in roughly 1,900 days, or 5.2 years.
So probably not decades.

if Overqwil was here, I would've loved him to talk about how the small q in the tail became a capital Q after evolving. Haha.
See, there's the even bigger pun:
Johto Qwilfish has an 11 on his tail, and Hisuian has a 9. They're billiards balls. So Overqwil being a Q makes him the cue ball.

@@yeasstt and normally Ice Cream cones are a golden color, and normally bulldogs don't come in Pink/Purple, and normally mice aren't bright yellow and electric.
I just realized Qwilfish's design similarities with Voltorb. Considering Voltorb is a bomb and Qwilfish is supposed to look like a naval mine it is definitely not a coincidence.

Curious if Overquill was forgotten, or if he has a lot to say about it. Probably the former, but it might be worth a full short of its own.
It’s probably just that he’s either never played legends arceus, or he has and just didn’t use a hisuian qwilfish and found out that it had an evolution
@@Visceral2096Even if that is the case, it's not like you need to play the games to know the mons. I never played any of the gen 6 or 7 games but I still knew about most if not all the mons from them even before I played the newer games that they appeared in.
fun fact: the design on its tail is the character ハ, the first kana in it's Japanese name "Harysen"--it also looks like the nearly identical character for the number 6, which is why hisuian qwilfish has the little 6 on its tail :)

Theres a lot of potential for a regular quilfish evolution that goes more into the sea mine aspect, being water/steel type.

I’m a big fan of how the lowercase q shaped mark on hisuian qwilfish’s tail turns into a capital Q when it evolves into overqwil. I just find it amusing

Qwilfish is a convergent evolution of Voltorb. It grew a tail to help swim around. And unable to self destruct effectively in the water, it grew spikes. As for the lips I think it just wants to give you a pokékiss

I’ll never get over how they put a lower case “q” and the Hisuian form’s tail and a capital “Q” on Overqwil’s tail.

Jokes on you guys in the Comment Section, Skyen likes Overqwil so much he refuses to group it together with Qwilfish in fear of bringing down Overqwil's S+ Tier Ranking.
I also like the fact that on the tails, Qwilfish and Overqwil had a lowercase q and uppercase Q
If you're patient enough, you can catch Qwilfish with an Old Rod in GSC. My favorite mons are just the plain old animal ones, so this fella made it onto multiple teams.
Qwilfish was the Johto pokemon I'd always forget about, it could only be fished in a single area outside a cave and rarely any trainers used it. In all my replays of Crystal as a kid I never caught one because I always forgot about them despite them being right near the guy who'd give me free water stones.

LOVE the design of hisuian qeuilfish... And the rest of hisui's Pokemon. I love the idea that they've evolved differently due to their environment! Hisuian Zorua is my favorite, tragic boy!
YES, Hisuian Zorua is my favorite pokemon in the ENTIRE game
The purple underneath Hisuian Qwilfish's eyes makes it look like it hasn't slept in 2 days.
They also have colors that blend in looking up pr down at them (sky color vs ocean color), further making them seem like trapping type animals

The Hisuian form's evolution Overqwil accentuates the naval mine inspiration even more- I'm surprised you didn't mention it!
A lot of comments here are saying that he missed Overqwil. While I acknowledge the possibility that it was an oversight, he did mention in Snorlax video's comment section that Munchlax would get it's own video, and I'm confident that's likely the case here.

The naval mine inspiration is a bit tenuous, until you get to the Hisuian form. It’s Darker colour palette and more aggressive look given the feeling of “Do not touch me. I will explode.”
Oh shit, I always loved Qwilfish as a kid (poison type is my favourite) I didn't there were so many Qwilfish enjoyers out there until I read this comment section.

I do wish it had a cute pre evolution, like puffish, where it's pure water type, and it acts tough, but it ends up being so cute that other Pokémon leaves it alone
It's really interesting how many aquatic weapon pokemon were introduced in gen 2. Remoraid, Octillery, Mantine, Qwilfish (based on a gun, a cannon, a fighter plane and a naval mine in that order)
The second one looks like it has a robber mask.

Water/Poison and Dark/Poison
Not exceptionally good compared to other Poison combos, but not bad for these puffy critters.
But, it could be DIFFERENT.
A Poison/Fire Type Qwilfish would’ve made it stand out more back in the heyday of Generation 2~3.
While Pin missile is the go-to to THIS DAY-give J-Qwil some fun Fire-Type moves for extra damage.
Now, H-Qwil is a weird lil’ guy. Dark/Poison and it’s a fish? Where’s the water??? Lol
If they wanted to expand on, or exemplify the Naval Mine idea/concept, they could’ve made it a Steel-Type.
Just a comment though-I think Overqwil being a Dark Type is actually funny.

J-Qwilfish Poison/Fire
Pufferfish skeletons actually inflate as well! If you've ever seen one of those spikey plastic balls that expands and shrinks as you pull on the corners, that's about how their skeletons work!
Been 2 years and a half and still thinking that Qwilfish should evolve into Overqwil the way Stantler got an evolution.
But the Hisuian one is *such* an Angry Round Boi!
Overqwil is so good, it goes to the next level of emphasising that it is indeed a sea mine, so cool.
I love qwilfish, I find it really cute and was really excited when I heard about it’s Hisuian form and then was ecstatic when I saw overqwil. I don’t know why I like a lot of hated Pokémon but it’s 2:50 am and I need to talk about my little round spiky boy
Quilfish looks like a voltorb but a fish and spikey
Gen 1 and 2 designs are limited since the artist only has access to 4 colors in a sprite for both hue and value. The use of color in new regional forms is a way for them to make the 'mons they wanted from the beginning without the restrictions of experience and legacy, or at least, that's what I feel
My all-time favourite Pokemon and my namesake - so happy it got love in Legends Arceus

I could be wrong but I think this thing was possibly also designed to look like a sea mine. Like those old abandoned ones you see in films like finding Nemo for example.
Even as a kid i always thought it would be funny if there was a pokemon who used quillfish as a flail.

Shiny hunted the hisuian form because it looks cool, then the normal form in Violet because I heard it was a good support in raids. Haven't had a chance to use it because it's not all trained up yet and the data corruption thing, but hopefully I can soon

Lewis did definitely go a roundabout way to say he didn’t like the Link’s Awakening art style for the upcoming Zelda game, but… I kinda agree with him, it doesn’t have the same charm as Wind Waker’s toon aesthetic or ALBW’s manga-inspired models.
Now hear me out, a 3D MOTHER remake with the toy aesthetic…

Always kind of shocked me how large pokemon are. Even a pokemon like Quilfish. They're all pretty freaking giant sized .
I wonder if there would be any difference in the way we consume Pokemon media if the actual pokemon were all like 3 feet or less in size.

Anyway... Qwilfish is very round. Rotund, even. It also could have been Water/Electric at some point during development, considering that its discarded evolution Shibirefugu looked like a Whiscash with a ⚡ on its forehead.
And that's not all, apparently Qwilfish had an alternate design that looked somewhat bigger and more serious.
Overqwil is an ok attempt at recreating Shibirefugu. Though it is just bigger Qwilfish.
Another case of Game Freak being bad game developers and only giving evolution to a regional form
