If your videos are representative of Russian stores, at least in Moscow, it implies that Russia isn't hurting and many of these stores stores make American retail look like slums! Quite amazing how people seem to be out even in extreme cold!
The cold is relative, -10 is considered slightly chilly, extreme cold in Moscow region would be below -35 imo, you'll still see a bunch of people hanging about outside in -25 and above.

Когда то обязательная программа при поездке в Москву с детьми была: Сходить на Красную площадь. Поесть эскимо. Покататься на метро . И, наконец, посетить Детский мир.🤗

Там же были и детские постановки - "Конек-Горбунок", "Чиполлино", да и "Каменный цветок" для детей годился... Я, впрочем, в 8-9 лет и "Севильского цирюльника" слушал с удовольствием.

BHS stores in UK do not exist anymore & for a good few years, it was on the brink on bankruptcy after 2008 and then got purchased for nothing, but got under together with the Topshop and few other brands under same ownership & due to the greediness of the owner... So even if it was related to the network at some point in history (and the brand was very popular back in mid-90s in Moscow - there was a huge shop At New Arbat) - it is definitely a separate entity nowadays :)))

I choked on my drink when you said these nail/hair salons are "for kids" xD You can see a grown woman getting her manicure done in the back and two grown women in the ad near the entrance. The list of offers includes brow correction and eyelash extensions. These are regular salons, and they are not targeted at children 😭No one brings their toddlers to get their nails done. Also, the Kitsune Cafe is k-pop/anime themed and offers Korean/Japanese food.
Right, Adult go there also. But the overall building is focused on Children. But perhaps parents drop their kids off at some of the activity centers and head off for lunch and a salon service in-between. Russell.

The gargoyle-looking person at 35:40 is Baba Yaga with her broomstick that she can fly on (Babushka Yaga) - a witch from the Russian folklore and there's her log cabin (izbushka) by her lefthand side. As for Grabli it had been a highly popular and ubiquitous and go-to cafe in the late 2000s through 2010s, we had our graduation party there. It offered a new type of cafe experience back in those days - no waiters to take orders but still a restaurant menu and staff that makes it comfy by cleaning the tables, bringing wines etc. Tbh I don't remember now how we got our wine :-)

You'd better plan in advance a week in summer for SPb and neighborhood. Although you may look at New Year Petersburg as well.

This is the best shop of my childhood! Earlier, there was a carousel in this shop, on the first floor. All children rode on this carousel. This carousel is standing on the Nikitskaya street, now. This shop was like Mr.Dunken in USA!

It looks like life is not so bad in Russia. Better than in sad communist Canada. Canada is 6 years or more behind Europe too. In Toronto many homless people and street are very dirty.

Finland is degrading too, so much snow last 2 years, but they don’t even bother to clean the streets, the roads are horrible, bumpy with holes. The shopping malls are empty, many empty spots, and many second-hand shops replacing the old good shops bankrupted after covid.

Кажется, посередине там еще была большая карусель. И большие часы выглядели по-другому. В первой половине 90-х мы туда ездили как на праздник 😁.

HI Russell! Hamleys is a British store found in Regent St. London. It's a family run business and I believe it's the biggest toy shop in the UK. I'm sure someone will correct me if this isn't the case. It's a must visit if you have kids (or not) and are in the area. Think it has 5 floors?

Наверху небольшой музей детской игрушки, где показывают 3Dкиноисторию магазина, и выхрд на смотровую площадку. Вы туда не подымались? Мы специально туда съездили.
Это магазин подвергся безжалостной реконструкции во времена перестройки. До реконструкции его внутренне помещение было, действительно, уникально. Но новые " хозяева" убили всю идею архитектора. Им потребовались торговые площади. Ребёнок, заходя в тот магазин, попадал буквально в сказку.. Помню.. Я и папа. Мне 6 лет, мы поехали выбирать мне куклу на День рождения. Я это куклу помню до сих. пор.
Вы говорите ерунду. Начнем с того что там был приличным только один центральный зал (теперь он стал не 2 х этажным а восьми и все светильники и архитектупные детали сохранили. ) . А в остальном там были такие катакомбы и темные лабиринты что там света не было даже днем.И вечные километровые очереди.
@@motya7100 мне не надо смотреть проект-я там был сто раз с детства с 70 гг- у меня там тетка 15 лет отработала-просто все кто там работал плевались над этим уникальным пространством- товар приходилось таскать до отдела чуть ли не на горбу по лестницам-даже лифтов нормальных не было. Повторяю что кроме центрального зала там ничего примечательного не было . Да и то этот зал практически полностью сохранили в тч все торшеры,перила и тд только высоту подняли с 2 этажей до 7 .

Дешёвым он был только в советский период. Года 4 назад он вообще стал принадлежать английской сети Hamleys и цены улетели в космос - любая игрушка была минимум вдвое дороже, чем в сети "Детский мир". Зато обставлен он был в разы лучше, чем на видео. Огромные инсталляции Лего, Маша и медведь и т.д. Сейчас ЦДМ вроде купил индус, а Hamleys хотят выдворить. Да и самой символики Hamleys уже пару лет как нет.
Those Silver Cross prams were gorgeous. they are the Rolls Royce of baby prams, hence the hefty price tag. the are a dream to push along ,or rather no effort to push because they just glide effortlessly. We had those plus many more here in the uk back when things were made properly. Must say I was expecting more toy shops than there is, but then I suppose Hamleys was large enough. is it American 🤔
Hamley's from what i understand is British. But perhaps with mixed ownership now. That pram was amazing to see up close. I had to check twice when i saw the price ticket. I am sure people love them though once they have tried them once. The main toy store there Hamley's is huge, literally everyone in one store, toy wise. It's such a mixed-use space now trying to bring people in for more than just simple shopping.
In early 80th it was so much attractive "Detsky Mere" - the place of wishes for Soviet children where were toys from other countries and made in USSR as well

If your videos are representative of Russian stores, at least in Moscow, it implies that Russia isn't hurting and many of these stores stores make American retail look like slums! Quite amazing how people seem to be out even in extreme cold!
The cold is relative, -10 is considered slightly chilly, extreme cold in Moscow region would be below -35 imo, you'll still see a bunch of people hanging about outside in -25 and above.

BHS stores in UK do not exist anymore & for a good few years, it was on the brink on bankruptcy after 2008 and then got purchased for nothing, but got under together with the Topshop and few other brands under same ownership & due to the greediness of the owner... So even if it was related to the network at some point in history (and the brand was very popular back in mid-90s in Moscow - there was a huge shop At New Arbat) - it is definitely a separate entity nowadays :)))

I choked on my drink when you said these nail/hair salons are "for kids" xD You can see a grown woman getting her manicure done in the back and two grown women in the ad near the entrance. The list of offers includes brow correction and eyelash extensions. These are regular salons, and they are not targeted at children 😭No one brings their toddlers to get their nails done. Also, the Kitsune Cafe is k-pop/anime themed and offers Korean/Japanese food.
Right, Adult go there also. But the overall building is focused on Children. But perhaps parents drop their kids off at some of the activity centers and head off for lunch and a salon service in-between. Russell.
38:48 Awww my favorite store. it's just huge (several floors) and has everything from anime figurines to floor pianos that you can play by stepping on the keys. Although the prices there certainly bite, so when I go there, I just wander among the stalls and squeeze plush toys heh

The gargoyle-looking person at 35:40 is Baba Yaga with her broomstick that she can fly on (Babushka Yaga) - a witch from the Russian folklore and there's her log cabin (izbushka) by her lefthand side. As for Grabli it had been a highly popular and ubiquitous and go-to cafe in the late 2000s through 2010s, we had our graduation party there. It offered a new type of cafe experience back in those days - no waiters to take orders but still a restaurant menu and staff that makes it comfy by cleaning the tables, bringing wines etc. Tbh I don't remember now how we got our wine :-)

I know they exist, and BHS is clearly a British brand, but do try to find it here in the UK. You are better off shopping in BHS in Moscow - will be cheaper too. 🙂

This is the best shop of my childhood!
Earlier, there was a carousel in this shop, on the first floor. All children rode on this carousel. This carousel is standing on the Nikitskaya street, now. This shop was like Mr.Dunken in USA!

It looks like life is not so bad in Russia. Better than in sad communist Canada. Canada is 6 years or more behind Europe too. In Toronto many homless people and street are very dirty.
I am sure though there are beautiful places in Canada though. I was working on cruise ships and sailing to Victoria and Vancouver, and it was so nice there. Russell.

Finland is degrading too, so much snow last 2 years, but they don’t even bother to clean the streets, the roads are horrible, bumpy with holes. The shopping malls are empty, many empty spots, and many second-hand shops replacing the old good shops bankrupted after covid.

Я немного скучаю по тому, каким был ЦДМ до реставрации. Да, там не хватало лифтов и эскалаторов, но атмосфера была особенной. Внизу был просто большой зал, где продавались игрушки. Кажется, посередине там еще была большая карусель. И большие часы выглядели по-другому.
В первой половине 90-х мы туда ездили как на праздник 😁.

HI Russell! Hamleys is a British store found in Regent St. London. It's a family run business and I believe it's the biggest toy shop in the UK. I'm sure someone will correct me if this isn't the case. It's a must visit if you have kids (or not) and are in the area. Think it has 5 floors?

Наверху небольшой музей детской игрушки, где показывают 3Dкиноисторию магазина, и выхрд на смотровую площадку. Вы туда не подымались? Мы специально туда съездили.
Это магазин подвергся безжалостной реконструкции во времена перестройки. До реконструкции его внутренне помещение было, действительно, уникально. Но новые " хозяева" убили всю идею архитектора. Им потребовались торговые площади. Ребёнок, заходя в тот магазин, попадал буквально в сказку.. Помню.. Я и папа. Мне 6 лет, мы поехали выбирать мне куклу на День рождения. Я это куклу помню до сих. пор.
Если помните ..Там еще обезьяны( игрушки ростом с человека ) на пальму залезали .. это были роботы в 1970 тых 😼

Вы говорите ерунду. Начнем с того что там был приличным только один центральный зал (теперь он стал не 2 х этажным а восьми и все светильники и архитектупные детали сохранили. ) . А в остальном там были такие катакомбы и темные лабиринты что там света не было даже днем.И вечные километровые очереди.

@@motya7100 мне не надо смотреть проект-я там был сто раз с детства с 70 гг- у меня там тетка 15 лет отработала-просто все кто там работал плевались над этим уникальным пространством- товар приходилось таскать до отдела чуть ли не на горбу по лестницам-даже лифтов нормальных не было. Повторяю что кроме центрального зала там ничего примечательного не было . Да и то этот зал практически полностью сохранили в тч все торшеры,перила и тд только высоту подняли с 2 этажей до 7 .

Besides Russell has know Russian, it is no problem to find an English-speaking Russian, especially in a large city such as Moscow, St. Petersburg or Novosibirsk. Most people know some basic words and can provide necessary information such as how to do smth. (go to a transport station, an address or to some famous place, pay for a service etc.). The Russians feel no problems when conversing with foreigners.

Дешёвым он был только в советский период. Года 4 назад он вообще стал принадлежать английской сети Hamleys и цены улетели в космос - любая игрушка была минимум вдвое дороже, чем в сети "Детский мир". Зато обставлен он был в разы лучше, чем на видео. Огромные инсталляции Лего, Маша и медведь и т.д. Сейчас ЦДМ вроде купил индус, а Hamleys хотят выдворить. Да и самой символики Hamleys уже пару лет как нет.

Those Silver Cross prams were gorgeous. they are the Rolls Royce of baby prams, hence the hefty price tag. the are a dream to push along ,or rather no effort to push because they just glide effortlessly. We had those plus many more here in the uk back when things were made properly.

Hamley's from what i understand is British. But perhaps with mixed ownership now. That pram was amazing to see up close. I had to check twice when i saw the price ticket. I am sure people love them though once they have tried them once. The main toy store there Hamley's is huge, literally everyone in one store, toy wise. It's such a mixed-use space now trying to bring people in for more than just simple shopping.

In all Russian fairy tales, she is going to eat the main character, but she ends up helping him.
In fact, this is not always the case. In fairy tales for the youngest children, she ends up being roasted in the oven herself. But I don’t remember a single fairy tale where Baba Yaga was able to eat someone.

Это не Детский Мир. ДМ изначально там был, но давно съехал. Это Центральный детский магазин, в котором самого магазина Детский Мир больше нет, а есть куча магазинов разных брендов. Якорный арендатор там сейчас магазин Hamleys

Depends on the shop. On Ozon (Russian Amazon) it’s 30 days, with premium subscription (which is like 3 bucks a month) it’s 60 days
