Of course sanctions work, What most people do not understand is that they take years before they start to kick in and most politicians will do anything they can to stay in power and get voted in before they show this. So it is no surprise to see Russia selling everything it can before the elections. Look at Russia's reserve's Gold, Platinum, etc. Russia has sold it all. They even have massive Chinese company's stripping the forests in Siberia, Not normal logging, Stripping it all. (Note the local are very upset because they did not get any work and the wildlife is gone. AKA much harder to live now for them.) Any normal nation should see the sanctions in 3 to 5 years. BTW this is the same way printing money works as well. When a nation prints money, you will not see the inflation for about 3 to 5 years. I hope this helps. It is very sad, But I think Russia is in for a very hard time, Russia most likely will lose Siberia and Kaliningrad and have war debits to pay like Germany after WWI and WWII. Right now as I am writing this Kaliningrad is signing a petition to recede from Russia. I think 75,000 have signed it already. Good luck, I really hope we do not see Russian's starving to death again because of bad leadership. But Russia is well known for this. Looks like it is just a repeat of the past.

As someone who went to the North East's biggest shopping centre this weekend (saw more life at my local funeral home), I'm starting to think sanctions are hurting us more than Russia.
The West has noted the stupidity of most "malls". There are very few locations where the giant shopping mall concept is viable in the long run, given modern Western attitudes and priorities. You have to endure a car-centric society to enable the supermalls.
What a place. I would love to go there - shop till my hearts content. Honestly seems Russia has come off better over the 700 days of sanctions. Thanks for sharing x
Well, hey, if the Ruzzuns are enjoying the sanctions, and prospering BECAUSE of them, they should be begging for more of them, right? Ok, we'll oblige.

This looks like America at its peak. I remember going to malls that were full of people and goods to buy. During Covid people shopped on line and continued to do so. Many still working from home. During the Holidays Mall business did increase some what and brought back the customer who liked to see and touch goods first and easier to return or exchange.2. HIgh Gas prices for vehicles caused some people to shop on line and they continued. 3. Some Malls have too much crime and the fear of getting assaulted or shot in some areas causes people to stay home. 4. The type of stores in the Mall has changed to other businesses and and not as popular. Stores are not updated or trendy. Arm Chair shopping on line is the main reason in my opinion.

Irrelevant. When there is only one watering hole, all the wildebeests show up there. The operative question is what is the per capita purchase they leave with. The best choice Russia made in the last 20 years is to get together with China - That saved them access to many goods they would lack by now. China is obviously a friend to have. India and Africa too. And China and India are very happy too, buying Russian Gas and Oil in quantities Europe only can dream of by now. And despite Putin saying he is always ready to make bussines with Europe and America again, I rather believe he would be very reluctant to do so, because you cannot trust them. China keeps it's contract promises. And I believe strongly that China and Russia are also reliable defense partners by now, able to protect each other against the Anglo Saxons very well.
So you think that the CCP is "together" with Ruzzuh? What makes you think that? At the first sign of the imminent collapse of Ruzzuh, the PLA will be flooding southeast Ruzzuh, grabbing land and resources like crazy, daring Moscow to do anything about it, as XI uses Pootie's argument that any land once controlled must be retaken.... China used to control much of Mongolia, Eastern Siberia, etc.
La Suisse est un petit pays. Dans les grands magasins, peu de choix et des prix inabordables. Je n ai jamais vu un magasin avec autant de choix et aussi bien tenu.

In the US, we view a mall restaurant to be low-end "experience". There are plenty of them, but you aren't going to find much fine dining, since prosperous people don't frequent mega-malls all that often. They are largely for the middle class in more prosperous areas and the low wage earners in many other places. I find it telling and amusing that Rooskies copied one of the worst and least survivable mercantile ideas in modern history and now are touting how great things are because these monstrosities have become heating centers, or cooling centers in summer, for the people who don't have heat or AC in their homes.
@@kimweaver1252 at least some roots of the Russian implementation of these malls originate from Finland. The weather is quite similar which results in similar solutions. I remember visiting Finland in 1996 and how impressed I was by Itäkeskus, a mall in Helsinki, and by Serena Waterpark in Espoo. In 2008 we already had similar and even better malls in St Petersburg, in 2012 we got a similar waterpark, in 2017 we got an excellent modern football stadium which is better than FC Barcelona had at that moment. All of them are large public spaces which can be visited any time of year. And the stupid thing here is that Russian tourists still continued visiting Finland as well and spending their money there because we were used to do shopping and have leisure in Finland, but the borders are now closed from the Finnish side. So we easily continue doing the same, but at home, whereas the business in Finland is now losing its money. As for the food, it largely depends on the city or town. Here in St Petersburg one can find plenty of restraunts with wide range of different kitchens (except traditional Russian and Caucasian there are least Italian, French, English, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Persian - usually having native Chefs and/or with specially educated cooks), and in the historical center of the city one needs just to walk about 5-10 minutes to find some good place. In Moscow it is a bit harder to do and the difference between luxury and regular places feels stronger. Anyways, nice middle class restraunts can be found inside and outside the malls. And also there is a more rare case of multi-functional buildings: for 12 years I worked in such a building which contains a theatre, a public shopping area on several floors, a fashionable restraunt, a fast food restraunt, a large party hall and company offices, all in one.

In Austin, TX, there are no wine shops in the malls but are quite a few "stand alone" wine shops as well as a plethora of gourmet shops as well as extensive wine sections in big box supermarkets replete with dedicated wine connoisseur employees always ready to assist. Parking lot is a place to park cars. Car park is a place where cars frolic and play on swings and slides. Carts are baskets or shelves(usually with 4 wheels) used to convey items. Trolleys were mass transit conveyances used in the 20th century. These were usually run on electricity.
In Russia there are also separate wine stores. There are also professionals working there. But they sell very expensive wine there. In the wine department of the shopping center, there is mostly very cheap wine.
When I first went to Russia in 1991 there were no such shopping malls, except perhaps GUM (but in a different way) Then later we had a mall near Red Square (Manazh(?)) but it was expensive, designer shops for the newly rich. When I left in 2000 there was Ramstore which is closer to what you're showing here. I'd love to go back and visit, maybe next year. I was young when I first went, now not so much :)
I think what this highlights is the decline of places like UK and the opposite seemingly in Russia.I wonder if it is being built on the same model of debt and if the eventual fate of Malls or Shopping centers will eventually complete the cycle we see in the West. In Bulgaria most Malls I have been to are not very busy or vibrant.
The mall nearest me closed a couple of years ago. There's an open-air mall about half an hour from me and It's always mobbed. It spreads over two sides of the street and goes for at least half a mile. As far as the size, that big is fine. I used to live and work at Willowbrook Mall in NJ and it was a similar size. It's still there and seems quite successful.
Так в России и в маркетплейсах покупают кск не в себя кругом пункты выдачи - озон , вайлдберис и яндекс маркет и курьеры носятся весь подъезд уже истоптали.
Haven't seen a mall this full in the US in many years. I asked Google if Russia was a capitalist or communist country once. Google responded saying it was a capitalist country and now I believe it. Good for Russia.
Yes business is business, all those brands that said they'd pull out of Russia knew that to do so would be commercial suicide. That's why they continue to trade with slightly different names. Bit of a win/win for Russia as they've actually got rid of McDonalds. Malls over her (UK) are dying a death and as someone mentioned, are full of feral kids, junkies and ne'er do wells. Any unstaffed Tissot kiosk wouldn't last two minutes here sadly.

Why is there so much signage in English? Not talking about the brands, for example the shoe store has the section "Outdoor", "Sale", etc. Here in S. California, we have almost the same Spanish speakers as English but the signage is only in English, except for dedicated Spanish stores. In Russia I don't get the connection to English and not other languages. In Tokyo there is the English signage too, but in the tourist and transportation areas. edit: For example, why is the shop "Simple Wine" not in Russian? It is a 100% Russian company HQ in Moscow. It should be "простое вино" and then they could put "Simple Wine" in English under and small.

Dang, that's more than a mall. California no longer has booming malls. The Gallerias here are like a 7-11 compared to that mall. That seems bigger than The Mall of America in Minnesota. Good for them for still thriving
@@TravellingwithRussell That's what we used to say in the 80's. Now people in the US hate going to malls, too plastic, corporate, soulless and over priced.
Thank God! Malls in the US need to go buy buy. No one shops at malls anymore for a reason. It's all over priced generic crap you can get for 1/3 the price on line. And you don't even have to wast time fighting for a parking spot, wasting gas, wasting time, polluting the environment or difficultly returning something with a return trip.

AKA much harder to live now for them.)
Any normal nation should see the sanctions in 3 to 5 years.

In the US, we view a mall restaurant to be low-end "experience".

I live in a small town in the U.S. and we have a lot of small shops. I love the small town vibe. I've lived in quite a few large cities. I'm finding small town life less stressful.
Wow, it's a nice place and looking busy too ❤ and yes, it's really huge 😮
Beyond Huge. I did actually put a link to the bigger individual stores if you want to check them out.
OMG! Mother Bear made me laugh. That name is even cuter! Thank you for telling.
You are so welcome! After knowing about this brand myself for so many years, it's a nice name they came up with. Not like so many others that are simply initials.
'Surprise, mother, father!'
Your videos are always so interesting. Thank you Russell.
No closed shops. Our malls are about empty because the price of our groceries housing and gas’s is way too high. They are doing better than we are!
Can’t speak for Russia as I havnt been there, but visiting mainland China, government aside…things are stellar. Modern and futuristic buildings. SAFE to walk anytime day or night even if you’re an old woman, no thugs walking the street trying to rob you or smash your windows, etc. The gov and news in the west would have you believe that the chinese are out to drink your blood and get you….its the complete opposite, actually. I’ve literally had multiple times people see me, cross the street with a big smile, and grab my hand for a big heartfelt handshake and then they just continue on their way. No words exchanged, just honest greetings and respect. A lot of chinese roll out the red carpet if you’re a western traveler and you almost feel overwhelmed and embarrassed by how much many will treat you like a total rockstar. I hope one day to visit Russia and see for myself what it’s like instead of western news telling me lies about them. Any Russians I’ve met abroad would give you the shirt off of their back, literally, if you needed it. Good hearted people and just reaffirms the facts that people are people no matter where you go. It’s the govs that create the problems between international folks.
Если я был бы президентом то ввел бы пожизненный бан на бренды которые ушли из России по политическим мотивам. Хотите вернуться? Да всегда пожалуйста, но только под новым брендом и попробуйте конкурировать с брендами, которые вас заместили.

Its certainly not like the slums that our US, large cities have become. I'm glad we still have enough free speech so that you can bring us videos like this, to enlighten us on Russia. Also, it seemed like pretty reasonable shopper traffic.

IKEA should have waited a little bit before making this major decision. Instead it threw tantrums and left. Big, HUGE mistake, IKEA! 😅

no, Russia is actually depopulating itself
only 145m people decreasing and overaging is nothing for IKEA in the big picture.
People in the West would partly not buy there anymore and this loss would be higher than the revenues/profit in Russia

I live in Australia. What I don't see here is 'stray items'. By that I mean items some customer has chosen and then change their mind and leave the no-longer-wanted item anywhere, at their convenience. In that respect, the Muscovites are very responsible and better-behaved customers.
Yes, there's such a difference. I am Russian, and when I shopped in the West, I was surprised to see lots of messed up items. That's strange. People in the West seem so smiling and polite, lots of Christians compared to Russia. In Russia we are more respectful to the supermarket staff
I wish western media would tell the truth about Russia. It's a beautiful place and the people are much classier. The way the US was in the 80's before liberalism destroyed it. Sancatons never work!!!! So many things in English. Stay strong Russia from the US.
Very informative, Thx

Thanks for your content Russell. As an American, I appreciate the perspective. Our US president and his administration is very corrupt, and the U.S. main stream media lies to U.S. citizens, but we have our eyes open due to content creators like yourself. I've wanted to travel to Russia since I was a little girl...could feel the pull to visit there though I have don't know why. I still hope I can visit there one day (though I'm older now). The country is BEAUTIFUL. To those who think we in America believe our lying politicians, I'm here to tell you that as a U.S. citizen, I'm tired of our politicians being liars too. We don't have wine being sold in shopping centers in my state, but other states do allow it to be sold in normal shopping stores. In my state, we must go to a designated wine/beer/alcohol shop, and it's heavily taxed because of our corrupt politicians.
The US and particularly THIS president is hardly "very corrupt". Do you know what corruption even IS? I bet not. I'll wager you think that any actions or policy that you don't agree with is "corrupt". Nope. By any definition, Ruzzuh is FAR more corrupt than the US, or ANY western nation. The CCP is even more corrupt, but if we're sorting out top tier nations.... G7 types, then mainland China and the so-called "Federation" of Ruzzuh are far and away the most corrupt and will continue be be so for as long as they exist, which is not likely to be long.
Don't thank me, I didn't do anything.
Stupid Western politicians. Geez, I loathe the stupid political games!
Вот это точно. Санкции - это реально то, чего не хватало российской экономике и бизнесу для внутреннего развития, а также на переключение на крепкое партнёрство с развивающимися странами, к которым ни США, ни Европа очень давно не относятся.
God bless you all..more and more people are realizing here in " the west" ( sorry ..as if you are on the moon or something!) they have been fed a lot of BS about you all and Russia generally..it's such nonsense, I so wish people would educate Themselves..I visited you all years ago..and it has stayed with me..loved it..such a beautiful country..

Thanks for showing Russian Mall everything are cheap and people shop with respect
The size and quantity of malls is inversely proportionate to sensible urban planning skill.
Very interesting! Thank you 🇺🇸

"These aren't actors, they are real people." Why would it even be necessary to make such a statement?
Это сарказм

Russell you are the best! If I were younger I would move to Russia, maybe it's the last sane bastion in this world.

Great video, thx. Greetings from the Netherlands 😊

That’s for the future in order to accommodate newcomers from English speaking countries.
