I know Ruyi was angry at what HaiLan did, but I'm with HaiLan on this one. Sometimes Ruyi can be too soft on others. HaiLan has an ability to calculate a step ahead of their enemies sometimes, and it really pays off when she exercises it.
I realized how much Ruyi treats all the children of the emperor equally. She tried to step in to defend not just Yonghuang but also Yongzheng. Even after what Yonghuang and Consort Chun have done/said to her. Ruyi really was the most suitable to be Empress. Too bad Qianlong didn’t appreciate her.
Through this whole series. It's Hailan who is the true power. She supports the righteous and punishes the damned. She can even persuade the emperor with subtlety. She is a true Empress. With or without the title
I absolutely agree with you, Hailan has the demeanor of a queen and the brains. I mean, Ruyi did a good job, but she ended up destroyed because of her pacific nature. In the other hand, Hailan is no longer that fearful woman, she's the most brave of the entire harem, she no longer fears to act

Ruyi was a good Empress and I’m certain she always meant well. But I believe Ruyi was so depressed from being targeted & so mistreated by the other women of the harem that it made her passive to the point of self detriment by the time she’d become the Empress. Hailan was fearful at first but she quickly stopped walking in fear and learned to walk in confidence by knowing she was championing the truth and all that was good & righteous. She was a true Queen in nature, intelligence & temperament. And that’s exactly the kind of support Ruyi needed. Love this show so much.
I love Hailan. She and Yongqi just came in there and gently dropped a nuke and then strolled out as innocently as can be 😂 She also told Ruyi how it was and Ruyi should have seen that it was their love, the love between sisters, that she should have cherished because unlike her love for the emperor or even the princes, she will never let her down.
Its funny to see Consort Chun gets all excited and full of herself as if she is confirmed the next Empress haha. Smart Hailan quickly react to outsmart Chun's greedy ambition. Yongqi is very smart kid too. He obeys and plays along with what his mother wanted.
🤭🤭🤭During the wine ceremony Hailan was chewing gum and taking names...pushing buttons, plotting and planning. Then she was like....that went better than expected. I like this Hailan.
If Hailan is a singel player, she'll get everything easily. She's smart, not greedy and only did what is absolutely necessary. She also lucky to have a son like Yongqi. Her loyalty to Ruyi is what eventually prevent her to achieve higher. But again, Hailan never care about status or The Emperor's affection, everything she did only for Ruyi and she's never want anything more than that. She is what she is also because her loyalty to Ruyi.
Consort Chun throwing out the first prince “even if he had those thoughts my BIOLOGICAL SON is innocent” shows who she is as a person. I think Ruyi truly loves all the kids equally

Ruyi was in the cold palace during that time and I really don’t think she knew anything about it. I think there was even a scene where she sort of asked Hailan who denied doing it. Ruyi truly seemed to care about all the kids, even the empress despite what the empress had done. She just never had the chance to be around the empress kids so it’s like hearing about some stranger losing a child, it’s sad but you don’t have a dog in that fight. And when Ruyi raised the first prince she truly loved him, she was devastated when he died

Sometimes she has ambitions that make her step on other people and sometimes learn the hard way. She can be a friend who will stay by your side when no one will but can be vile when she thinks ur on the way. She maybe ur ex friend but later shell come back with full sincerity. Sometimes ull like her sometimes not sometimes ull think she doesnt really care but someday ull realize she actually did.
I love Hailan. Her character is one of deep love and respect for Ruyi. I just can not stop watching this show over and over again. The acting and costumes are fantastic. I only wish the translations were more accurate. Some time they are down right funny.
what makes Hailan different to Ruyi is that Hailan is not afraid to take measures to help Ruyi even if it means it will harm others and yes she does have the qualities of an empress just like what others said Ruyi is mostly based on love she was schemed against so she has to scheme to protect herself and those she love. I love both Ruyi and Hailan their characters are unique yet blends with one another well.

Hailan's plans generally went well whenever she combined Ruyi's teachings with her own personal touches. Her plans went worse when she followed Ruyi's pacifism on top of Ruyi's teachings, but her plans went way, WAY worse when she acted AGAINST Ruyi's teachings. Ruyi's plans went worse because her pacifism generally acted against her - she never went on the offense, so she was doomed to always be reacting defensively. There are only so many times one can be accused before accusations begin to hook in the minds and hearts of the judge(s) - no matter how many times one has been proven innocent. Her plans usually went better for her when others acting on her advice followed it with their own personal touches.

He wasn't like that in the beginning of their knowing each other and I think she always held on to that side of him. The more scheming grew in the harem, the more undone he became as well.

I actually love Hailan here at this moment (04.32 -05.47) it shows her growth as a woman and mother, even though what she says to Ruyi is harsh it is true everybody is fake the moment they reach power they change, and all that phony care and words it's just for show they only remember you and miss you when you are gone. After that, they move on.
Hailan's only weakness and only love was Ruyi, and even that was a good calculation. She knew Ruyi was the only person in the palace who wouldn't betray her devotion.

I mean, even then the main reason she even survived to that point and is fighting so viciously, is for Ruyi. I don't think she would have done as much if it were for herself, nor do I think she would ever want the Empress seat if it isn't for Ruyi instead. Hilan was that secret weapon that no one saw as a threat yet she was the real deadly one. I love her. Also she is the one the king treated with most care and respect. no one treated better than her. Because she never care for him and just did what she thought was right. Did I said l love her
Hai Lan is the most strategic and intelligent one out of the bunch...the biggest difference is that she has a moral compass and knows what's right, wrong, and when to stand up for justice.
Hai Lan was only being realistic when she said Ruyi values love too much especially in a harem where you are sharing one guy with other women and she was right in the end. Not even the first prince who she raised and loved remained sincere to her in the end.
Hailan is great, and she has the makings of a true empress, but she also has really bad luck - all the decisions she makes tend to go worse for her any time she acts directly against Ruyi's teachings. Ruyi is too pacifistic, she made a great empress, but her very nature of treating everyone sincerely in a cutthroat society made her more suspicious rather than less. If the two had combined personalities - if Ruyi had acted in advance sometimes rather than always waiting and limiting herself to reaction every time; or if Hailan combined Ruyi's teachings with her own personal touches rather than acting, and teaching the sons to act, against Ruyi's teachings - each of them would have been much better off. Ruyi is still my favorite though!
I love Hailans devotion to Ruyi. Whatever the right term is it’s like filial except it’s only for Ruyi. I don’t think she has any love for the emperor at all and everyone else in the harem is are just tools to be used to help Ruyi. Even her own son she gave to Ruyi (or tried to? I don’t recall now) and when he asked if Ruyi was having a boy you could see Hailan look at him differently as if assessing if he was a threat to her
A true sisterly love. Some women out there who had to fight with and overcame (or are still overcoming) their struggles tug at your heart and you just want to support them as friend and family. So we call it a sisterhood.
Traditionally children of Lower ranked mothers were given to higher ranked mothers to raise. So it was natural for Hailan to have Ruyi help raise her son instead of someone else with malicious intent
All the kids love Ruyi until one of their mothers suddenly opens their dang mouths and make them say or do something stupid, then in the end they realize Ruyi was the only one who only wanted what was best for them, and not have an ulterior motive
It's interesting how Yu Fei's actions unintentionally caused harm to more than the two sons and Noble Consort Chun it also caused a lot of harm to Ruyi who still had a love for both the sons as if they were her own.
Watching this scene where Rubi is getting bullied - later knowing from watching the whole drama that this woman will learn how good Rubi is and how wrong and mean her actions were - then at the end when Rubi is about to die and she remembers these women and how they all might have been friends. The cycle of our lives to go from young and stupid to older and wiser. Sigh
The palace law and hierarchy forces the women to take actions out of self preservation. One wrong step.... It must've been terrifying. I think Chun has a good heart if a bit mislead I feel bad for her.

I actually love Hailan here at this moment (04.32 -05.47) it shows her growth as a woman and mother, even though what she says to Ruyi is harsh it is true everybody is fake the moment they reach power they change, and all that phony care and words it's just for show they only remember you and miss you when you are gone. After that, they move on.
What Yu Fei said is so true, The emperor did abandon Ruyi for other women and the kids she loved did use her.
Hailan's only weakness and only love was Ruyi, and even that was a good calculation. She knew Ruyi was the only person in the palace who wouldn't betray her devotion.

Hailan is great, and she has the makings of a true empress, but she also has really bad luck - all the decisions she makes tend to go worse for her any time she acts directly against Ruyi's teachings. Ruyi is too pacifistic, she made a great empress, but her very nature of treating everyone sincerely in a cutthroat society made her more suspicious rather than less. If the two had combined personalities - if Ruyi had acted in advance sometimes rather than always waiting and limiting herself to reaction every time; or if Hailan combined Ruyi's teachings with her own personal touches rather than acting, and teaching the sons to act, against Ruyi's teachings - each of them would have been much better off.
Ruyi is still my favorite though!

I love Hailans devotion to Ruyi. Whatever the right term is it’s like filial except it’s only for Ruyi. I don’t think she has any love for the emperor at all and everyone else in the harem is are just tools to be used to help Ruyi. Even her own son she gave to Ruyi (or tried to? I don’t recall now) and when he asked if Ruyi was having a boy you could see Hailan look at him differently as if assessing if he was a threat to her
A true sisterly love. Some women out there who had to fight with and overcame (or are still overcoming) their struggles tug at your heart and you just want to support them as friend and family. So we call it a sisterhood.
Traditionally children of Lower ranked mothers were given to higher ranked mothers to raise. So it was natural for Hailan to have Ruyi help raise her son instead of someone else with malicious intent
All the kids love Ruyi until one of their mothers suddenly opens their dang mouths and make them say or do something stupid, then in the end they realize Ruyi was the only one who only wanted what was best for them, and not have an ulterior motive
