- Today we are continuing our comic book clean and press video series in which we will dry clean this nice mid-grade Golden Age Comic Book as part of our Crack, Clean, Press, and Resubmit video series.
Our candidate comic book is a copy of All American Comics #83, from 1947, graded by CGC as a 5.0 with White Pages. Although issue #83 is not a key issue, it is a golden age issue of an important DC title and does include a 12 page Green Lantern story, as well as a 7 page Dr. Mid-Nite. I purchased this comic book for $189 plus shipping and taxes, with the intention of performing a crack, clean, press, and resubmit to CGC.
All American Comics #83 has only 12 universal copies in the CGC Census, and at 5.0 our copy is mid-pack in the census, with 7 copies graded higher, but that if we can stretch the grade to a 6.5, we would be at the edge of the top quartile with only 4 graded higher.
This video series will cover all aspects of Comic Book CCPR: Crack, Clean, Press, and Resubmit. We will cover how to evaluate a comic book CCPR candidate, crack open a slabbed comic book, clean and press the comic, and send if off to get re-graded to maximize value. This process is the same whether you are dealing with a PGX, CBCS, or CGC slab.

What an amazing difference Dr. Paul! Cleaning these colors are always a challenge, because once you lift it, there’s no turning back. You did a wonderful job cleaning this cover and very impressive as always.😊
Thanks Captain Larry! Looking forward to your next project on @FlyingLComics!
Awesome job, Dr. Paul!
Thank you kindly High-Grade Keys!
Thanks for another great video. Your knowledge nuggets are invaluable. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Greensfiend!
Nice job of cleaning the pencil. I think the stains in the dialogue balloon around the phrase "What do I do now?" would benefit from a short blue light treatment. Maybe no peroxide, just the light for one or two hours after the book has been humidified. Another great video. Thank you for sharing your techniques and thinking.
Thanks Michael. That sounds like a sensible conservative approach. 👍🏽
@@DrPaulKosnik Well, I try to be sensible, and usually incremental, in my approach while still having fun. Thanks for considering my idea.
Love your channel, any tips for removing ball point pen.
Carl, ball point pen removal is difficult. There are some folks who have had some success if it's on a white area, but i'm not aware of anyone successfully removing it over colored ink without also removing the colored ink. The problem is it's just too similar chemically to the inks used to print the comic book, so anything that removes the ball point pen is going to remove the inks used to print the comic book as well.
Kenny is a wizard. I have to send my more fun 54 to him for tape removal and a whole work up.
He really is Ryan! He has my All Star Comics 3 at the moment...
Steady hands = Great Results!
Thank you Plucked!
Nice to hear you using those engineering terms... crumbly and grabby. 😉
Right? It’s also less plastic-y.
Very nice result, well done 😊
Thanks Johnny!
I have used different erasers for different age comics. I have lifted red, yellow, and blue in the past and the black can lift and fade also. Looks great already Dr Paul. Great job.
Thank you Peter! Dry cleaning with erasers is definitely an art and one benefits from lots of practice on different kinds of comics of different eras.
Have you ever tried using an Absorene dry eraser sponge? It's great for lifting dirt, doesn't remove color, and you can wash it to remove tee crud after using on a number of books
Murray yes I have used them…as you say, they are great, I’ve found especially for lifting dust shadows or when the entire comic book has a layer of spoiling. I didn’t know you could wash them, tell me more about that-just soap and water?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Damn Snakebite 14 thumb's up is a new record! Glad you enjoyed it.
