The Righteous Brothers had a big hit with "Unchained Melody" in 1965. Home Free did such a beautiful rendition of this classic song. They added an old school doo-wop feel to it. The video in prison is very fitting as this song was originally written for the 1955 prison film "Unchained". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or finishing his sentence and returning to his wife & family.
A wonderfully sung and performed cover of Home Free. I've listened to the performance of The Righteous brothers hundreds of times, especially when I was little and sweet.😉 With their own twist to it, but still respect for the song. The leads, the harmonies, the Doo-wop, the bass (Chance and Tim), the vocal percussion, everything just so good. Also wonderful how they bring back the real story. Another homfredian gem. This song has always belonged to Bobby Hatfield. I never thought anyone could dethrone him. But damn, they did it. It belongs to Home Free now. No dis to Bobby, though. It took more than 50 years for anyone to out sing him. The video is an homage to the original 1950s era prison movie, “Unchained,” from whence it takes its name.

Austin Brown has a rendition of it on his channel (along with other covers and some originals "If I Met You Now" and "Earn It" among them). If you want to impress your significant other, play her Austin's cover of "Beautiful Soul" and say it reminds you of her. You have a loooong fall left down the rabbit hole but it's a great trip!
