I've always believed that they should have left them alone for a lot longer it would have made things far more interesting it would have required that what is the norm according to regulations in Starfleet would have had to been put aside because of the fact they had developed a relationship when there was no possibility of them being returned to their former place and therefore they would have had to come up with a way to do that on board the Starship with their child it would have made more cohesion what is given the character of chakotay more to do he was relegated to the sidelines.
