  • After the loss of our chickens while we were away on vacation we get some new additions to the Homestead family.
    Also, we get started on running permanent power to the Cabins but hit a setback.

      @thomaskemp302 thank you!
      Now that we are on the Homestead full-time we plan to put out a video every week.

    Good to see you getting videos out again. Sorry for the loss of your chickens, it's easy to get attached to them. Watching you working hard with the shovel brought up some troubling memories! Haha. God bless.

      @paulthomas3259 oh yeah, I bet the last time you did some serious shoveling was for that sign at BCBC.
      Praise God that you are still around!

    Dam....so sorry ...tough resource loss....is that the guy with like 10 dogs?.....The Big House out on the corner property fenced his whole property....I'll eventually have to do the same....especially with all the free range cows....You Guys did Great with the Property....Awesome Job

      @blitz77788 we may need to fence in our whole property the same way.
      It could have been anyone's dogs. Either way we will rebuild better next time.

    Sorry about the chickens! Foxes were the bane of our chickens on the farm I grew up on in Western Australia. Our chicken house was well fortified with seven-foot poles and chicken wire all over, but even then some foxes still managed to kill a few, on one occasion by enticing a chicken to put its head through the wire and then biting it off! We found it was an ongoing problem. I wish you and Abby better for the future.

      @glentomkins8044 we have foxes around here too. We need to think about that when we build the permanent chicken run.

    Although this is awful, it is a very valuable learning experience. In a grid down situation, dogs are going to be even more hungry and more motivated to get into runs. You can use this to elevate your preps while you still have the ability to access resources. We have had the same issue with dogs. So sorry. Sad end to a nice vacation.

      @christyv4125 yes, we definitely learned from it and we will be able to come back stronger.
      That is so true about about getting things ironed out before the SHTF, once that happens all of our focus will be on survival.

    That’s so sad about the chickens ! U have great neighbors who cleaned it up . Were they wild dogs or do people just let them Roam just like they do here in town and. Attack whoever they want ….😮no police enforcement

      We really do have some great neighbors!
      There are many people who let their dogs run but either way we do have lots of coyotes out.
