This week, I decided it was time to make my first army for Warhammer. I decided that if I was going to make an army of Space Marines, they might as well all be cowboys as well.

a smoke stack or two would have worked marvels for that knight... It's already pretty steampunky, it needed only that little bit to push it over the edge to look wild-westy.

Was about to say just the same. Some of the wires that are present on everything else in the Wild Imaginary West could have helped tie this army with the rest too
That and maybe some cow catchers on the Ankles as additional "armor"

Post Script: The Ramblin' Throne Boys chapter may not be perfectly codex compliant, but their devotion to rootin' out varmints (tyranids), banditos (renegades), outlaws (chaos marines), and such-like malefactors on their homeworld of New New Tejas is second to none.

Fun fact: a rotary cannon _is_ a Gatling! They are mechanically identical to the original Gatling gun, just made with modern materials and tolerances.
The main difference is the de-linker, i.e. the piece of space age magic that separates up to 6000 rounds of ammunition per minute from the links of the ammo belt to feed the Beast.
This army is absolutely fabulous. I agree, the spurs are the best part, but it's by a very narrow margin.
It makes me wonder what kind of monumental creatures they are equipped to hunt? The Great Rat King of San Francisco? The Horror at Red Hook? Could it be... have they actually tracked down... a GRUE?!?
Might I recommend putting a smokestack on the knight, it may help it feel more like a steam train

Once upon a time, I was thinking up a Western-themed Space Marine Chapter called the Steel Riders. I debated about if I wanted to keep it grounded in the 40k aesthetic or go fully Western with it. In the end, I never ended up doing any models at all. This is exactly how I pictured the fully Western idea though. So it was truly amazing to see this video!

Love these minis, cowboy space marines was not something I knew I needed but now I have received it it will live within me forever
I was unsure of how this would turn out until the reveal but I was really surprised how nicely they all tie in together, they really do have that wild west theme and I think you communicated it very well.
This reminds me of some wild west/ steampunk Orcs I made about 15 years ago. ❤ Every mini looks better with a mustache and a cowboy hat.
These marines were all from different chapters, but when they died in battle and their souls were sucked into the void, the mischievous chaos gods cast them back in time to the old west, where they lived out their days fighting as mercenaries side by side. They call themselves the Horse Heresy.

quest for camelot is probobly the most nostalgic movie of all time for me. I havent remembered the name ever since i watched it as a little kid and you mentioning it has finally allowed me to watch it again after many years of wanting to. thank you!
In my head, I think of this channel as mainly a kitbashing/scratch building channel. So, whenever I see how great the sculpting is, I'm always surprised. The beards, the moustaches, and the skull all look like they came right off of a sprue.
Please make more WIW videos! I love watching you make such involved, story driven dioramas! The fact that these all share a universe and form a cohesive story makes this all the more impressive!

No exaggeration. That is the most clever idea I’ve seen for a Warhammer army. And the locomotive theme for the big guy was perfect! Someone needs to make a movie about the IWW! 🎥

The transformation of those minis into wild west motif is amazing - worked great. I love it!
I have a necromunda gang of delaques (first ed sculpts) with the cowboy hats from the big cowboys you can get in the toy aisle at Woolworths or Coles.
The reason it works is because Delaque figures had overcoats that reminded me of the ones from Sergio Leone westerns. The heavies were given uniforms from the ACW artillery units. Both North and South.
I later did the same for some Regiments of Renown Horse artillery. Though I did include one gun with the RHA uniform and French uniform (I think). These were from WHFB before it went stupid.
This is such a fantastic conversion; seeing all the little changes like the sculpted facial hair makes these so charming. But I think my favorite part is that despite the fact that you picked the models for their aesthetics, it's almost a perfectly legal 1000 point army! I checked the numbers!
10 Reivers: 170 points
3 thunderwolves: 90 points
Dreadnought: 135 points
Allied Knight Castigator: 465 points
And I think that last model is UR-025, from Blackstone Fortress? You could proxy it as a leader for the Reivers. A Captain in Phobos Armor is 80 points.
All total that's 940 points, which leaves just enough wiggle room to pick some enhancements!
I never thought of putting cowboys and space marines together, but holy hell you pulled it off amazingly. I wanna see more space marines with lever guns now
I could imagine with the warp being such a weird place that a small band of marines like this was catapulted though time and space to the WIW, and to survive they became the most feared and dangerous group of both monster hunters, and guns for hire. Not wanting to affect this world's fate too much, they don't just overthrow the government and instead bide their time until hopefully their ticket home comes their way. Awesome paintjob and an awesome vessel for story telling. I'd love to see them tackle something like a Tyranid Bio-titan that got sent back just like they did.
I’m really happy to see you paint your first army ! When you said you didn’t find a space marines horse cavalry, I immediately thought of someth cool you could do, and that would be to purchase the serberys raiders from the Adeptus Mechanicus, which comes in units of three, and then use them as proxies for the thunderwolf cavalry. What’s even cooler with that, is that this unit is already kind of set in the wild imaginary west !! Seriously, they have cowboy revolvers, rifles, and even sabers, they’re only missing a cowboy hat !!! I would love to see you make that, but your wolves look awesome and are perfect as they are, as well as the others models you painted !
I love it!!!!! If I could add one thing though, it would be that you should paint the armor trim on the bottom of the knight red, it'll really help make them pop and add a bit more variation to the color. Also, maybe adding some small stripes of it to some panels too? Getting interesting variation on them is super important

I love the idea of the dreadnoughts being these massive steam-powered machines
for the sake of future conversions, most space marine kits come with sets of both helmeted and helmetless heads, so you would have the room to make hats on most types of marine.
The bison horns on the Dread just made me so happy
What an amazing Warhammer theme. That giant knight turned out just as you said looking like an old steam train. That face shield may have looked pretty boss with red also like it had a bandana hiding its face. Love your vibe, love your story telling.

Love how the knight turned out, the steam-train aesthetic would be really cool to continue onto an army of knights. You could have a coal tender, a caboose, and so much more.
Edit: I now really need a steam train themed knights army. Time to fire up my printer and get some sweet sweet kit bashing on.

I have to say, I really enjoy watching a modeler have fun with the hobby, and not take it so seriously. That being said, the quality of your work is still really inspiring and I learn a lot from the videos
