SPEC MIATA DRAMA at the 2022 SCCA Runoffs Spec Miata Race

  • Challenging conditions get the best of many of the countries top Spec Miata drivers at the 2022 SCCA Runoffs at VIR. Track has a completely dry line, but while on the false grid, light misting rain starts to fall in certain places on the track, and these changing conditions crush the dreams of so many great Spec Miata drivers.
    Danny Steyn races SCCA and NASA events in both Spec Miata and Super Touring Lite cars. His cars are prepared by OPM Autosports, his SM is powered by Rossini Racing Engines, his STL is powered by Nelson Racing Engines, and both cars are stopped courtesy G-Loc Brake Pads, with contingency support from Hoosier Racing Tire, Toyo Tires and Mazda Motorsports.
    Danny also races Hare Scrambles and OffRoad Races on motorbikes, and does Adventure Touring on bikes around the world.

      Totally agree, SCCA raised the bar this year with their coverage of the Runoffs. Very impressive

    It's so good. Spec Miata is my favorite racing to watch! This year's run offs didn't disappoint. We were watching from the top of the roller coaster!

      Glad you enjoyed it, ! was hoping to be there to the finish, but sometimes it just doesn't go your way. If you were at Roller Coaster you must have seen some interesting stuff! Spec Miata does offer some of the closest and most exiting racing you will ever see. And I am living proof that you can keep doing it way into your later years, and still be relevant, as long as you put in the work!

      @@dannysteyn we were cheering the whole time! Talk about not going your way in the STL race as well, But what a charge at the end! Seeing Greg win was amazing though! I can only hope to be racing still and as humble as you in the years to come. You're Inspiration for sure!

      Hi there Badrock Family. Glad my videos keep you entertained and I hope they encourage you to come and race with us. But to be clear, in SCCA & NASA clubs, none of us, other than the prep teams, any money at racing. In fact in the entire motor racing industry, VERY FEW are paid to race, ALL of us pay to play, just like in any other sport. If you are at the front of a competitive class like Spec Miata, Mazda, Hoosier and Summit Racing provide contingencies. Mazda gives money, Hoosier gives tires and Summit gives vouchers to their store.

      @@dannysteyn still even getting contingencies that’s a huge help! Read about your car online and the build and what not and it’s a beautiful car! I’m coming from a motocross back ground but I can’t get hurt anymore so want to make the switch to sm. Any pointers for me? Should I build my own car if I’m capable, should buy a mid pack car and just run that the first year?

      @@Danny_Petramalo Hi there Danny. I too came from a motocross background and had way too many hospital visits, broken bones, surgeries, and even a 10 day coma. But motocross will definitely put you in a wonderful position to be competitive in SM. For me SM is motocross with a cage. Elbows out, all thrashing for the same piece of track. So much FUN! Do not build your own car, you will never be able to do what the builders have learned over 100's of builds. If you have a pro shop build a car for you from scratch, with all the good stuff, the going price for a top shelf car now is around $40-50k with 3 sets of wheels, a good seat, full AIM data system, fire suppression etc. My recommendation is to buy a car, preferably a well sorted car that you see running, and always take delivery of it at the track so they cannot take it home and remove all the good stuff before you get it. On the other hand there are always SM's for sale, starting at $10k runners all the way to national front runners at around $40k. If you loved MX, you will love SM, so I would dive in!

I was thinking of building my own car I’ve been watching Al Angulo channel and it seems straight forward, went to school to work on bikes when I was racing but I know this is a whole different world. And I’m right there with you! Many broken bones coma for 3 days when I was 15 and now I have 4 kids so I’m thinking sm would be motocross with a cage much better 😂 thank you so much for the advice and your time! Good luck next season and if we ever line up together at some point once I get racing I’ll come say hi! Appreciate you!

      Hi Carlos, when I made contact with Preston Pardus, my left front tie rod got severely bent and I retired
