Their channels have very high RPM, so they continue to create videos and drag out the info. I'll admit as a creator they do have some good tips in their videos, but you do need to just find out yourself what works most of the time and the biggest tip I have for any creator is simply: edit so your video isn't boring. That's it. Just dont waste peoples time and value their time and you will start to see the algorithm learn what audience is best for your videos. You'll never get a video to go viral overnight, usually it takes about 2 months of consistency before you get a semi-successful video, for me that was a video that hit 22,000 views about 14 uploads into my channel. All the previous videos barely broke a couple of thousand and my very early videos were only in the tens/hundreds.

I think a lot of people get stuck in a loop as well where they just keep watching these channels in the hope they gain more knowledge or find an easy way to grow. And NEVER actually start their channel. While these channels do provide some great insights and tips, nothing will beat actually just getting started and learning on the job.

@occsaun 100% I've literally been in an endless loop of watching all of these creators for months. I've only recently just built up the nerve to record my first videos but I have to say the main inspiration wasn't guys like Ali Abdaal (although I think he does a great job simplifying and conceptualizing what it takes to make it big on YT), it was a handful of smaller creators over 40 who provided the encouragement to just do it. It's an easy place to get stuck though.

I myself have 4.2k subs on this channel and 5.6K on my other channel and I can say confidently that these gurus mostly regurgitate info that is readily available. These are the things that got me monetized x2 free of charge:
    1. Make videos for a specific audience that you KNOW watches content on RUclips (i.e. sports fans, star wars fans, young professionals, etc. )
    2. Plan your content out in advance based on other successful videos in your niche as well as what your audience directly asks for.
    3. Open your videos with something interesting like a question and cut all the dead air.
    4. Be consistent - this means don't take really long breaks but feel free to upload on different days of the week ( I know this is contrary to what most gurus say) - I upload when I finish.
    5. Respond to comments ( not all, but the good ones ) and leave hearts - don't underestimate the power of just being friendly to your audience.

And I see view wise, it worked for you. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk free on their channels, I agree, that part (paid coaching) may not be necessary. But the formula they are teaching for free works. Our vids are a product, package them in the box yt wants you to and they will "sell" better. Nice video, I enjoyed watching, done well. 😊

I just started a RUclips channel, and find the most difficult part is finding the balancing between my regular job, my home life (wife and kids) and my creative time. I mainly just want to build a community to connect with likeminded individuals, while also providing value that community seeks. All while trying to become my natural self on camera that I am at home or with friends.
It’s a process that I will enjoy because it will help me grow as a person and creator, while being authentic.

@@ShadyFoxGG there’s no sole purpose for making content. Like I mentioned above I want to build a community first and foremost, I want to provide value to that community that others can find useful to some degree (eventually be my funny and natural self on camera, while packaging informative content) and obviously to help mold a future for myself and my family financially. I didn’t mention money before because it’s not the focus. It’ll be a byproduct of the value I hope to provide eventually.
Balancing family, work and content creation time is what I would imagine most new creators have problems with. I can function on little sleep throughout the day, but I want my content to be good, so I got to be present when shooting videos I want. At some point I want to expand on what content I provide which will take time and effort. But with practice, lots of effort and goals I’m hopeful to get there

You have made an amazing video on this subject. These "promise" videos are addictive and sadly, new creators are targeted and also the subject of "algorithm changes" tends to be a hook that many use. What i have noticed is that there are many new small creators really going for authenticity, identifying (like you) the false promises, the pressures to purchase quality tech etc. Being a creator is damn hard and many burnout just from trying to keep up with what they think they should know and then jeopardising their passion for content creation. Sometimes, there is a need to step away from the noise and remember your "WHY" for being a creator in the first place and create with passion and joy so you can enjoy the journey. So glad your channel popped up. Keep creating.💯💯👏🏼

I am a small content creator myself and I watch these «how to grow on YT» videos with a grain of salt. I am aware that they are in a different nice and that they try so sell me something. My channel is in a very small nice, but I am passionate about it. I don’t want to copy something that I know, will works. I want to be creative and make videos I enjoy. What I love about my personal journey, is that I make my own mistakes. I learn my own lessons. I progress at my own pace.
«Make people click on the video and make them watch the video» is simple, but also complex. I take that as a reminder for my next video.
What I liked about your video, Mason, was the physicality. What do I mean by that? The post its, the hand held camera instead of a screen capture, the funnel visualization, the pacing of the video. I hope, you keep your style of making video. Honestly, I use VidIQ and I really like it because it has some kind of chatgpt with your channel data. But I would never have bought it at full price because it's too expensive.
I think the guy with the huge glasses is the only one I like out of all of them. He sometimes says really new things, like what is coming soon, like the community tab stuff. Also, he seems to be nice.
But the other people I can't stand. Most of them are narcissistic guys who really just want to sell you something and tell you that you're the loser as a creator and nothing else by showing you how awesome other creators' thumbnails are. While I'm looking at it, I'm thinking "Nah, I would never click on that. That looks like clickbait."
And you're authentic. That's what I want to be too. Not another salesperson, although I do try to keep a "corporate design" a bit haha. What's also annoying is that 99% of the time they talk about gaming channels. I'm a musician with a music/AMV channel so most of the stuff doesn't help me.
But ultimately they make me realize that I don't mind being so tiny. I've gained fans that I really love and enjoy interacting with. It's like a little family waiting for me that I don't have in real life anymore (my dad is going to die soon too). And if I was huge, I don't think I'd be able to read all the nice, loving comments anymore.
So thank you for your video. It made me smile and it's really good and authentic. A gem in today's sales RUclips machine.

Do they recycle concepts over and over again and rebrand it as a new idea each time? As Rob from vidiq would say, “yes.” But this video was really good, and it was good to see another view on this. Great video!! I’ve spent over a decade being “scammed.” 😂 Yes my channel is THAT old.
The only formula I’ve found which provides far more desirable and predictable outcomes for RUclips content creators is as follows:
Pay no mind to 99% of the RUclips gurus out there. They will always have an upsell and produce very few results.
Step 1) Know EXACTLY who your audience is (demographics and psychographics). Study them daily through comments, their previously watched videos, age, gender, etc.
Step 2) Appeal to that specific audience through the topics you choose and the way in which you communicate.
Step 3) Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Research what’s already working (thumbs & titles) then reinvent existing RUclips success within your niche. Make it your own and give your own take sort of like you did with this video. (Reminder: This goes for thumbnails and video topics).
Step 4) Scrub the retention graph for each of your videos looking for drop offs, spikes and retention. Avoid doing more of whatever caused the drop offs. Do A LOT more of whatever resulted in spikes and stabilization.
Step 5) Use the data from your retention graph to guide the format of your following videos and keep refining as you identify the strengths and weaknesses in your retention graph.
Step 6) Watch successful RUclipsr channels repeatedly and I guarantee you will find patters in their format, delivery and title choices.
Step 7) Your brain and mind respond to all messaging, so own the fact that you'd like to be a financially successful RUclipsr. This proactive approach is far more effective than passively accepting existing circumstances due to limited knowledge and experience.
    Best of luck.

I work a full time job, my hubby is not supportive of my RUclips efforts, and I am in a budget - but I’m not giving up … just plugging along doing the best I can. we have the "choice - to buy or not to buy" (I have not bought because I canʻt afford them :) ) - that is why I look at them more of a biz than a scam. But hey, this video is getting a lot of views right now. Looks like Mason Godwin stumbled upon a topic many people are interested on. This video can change the trajectory of his channel :)

For me, I've been watching how to grow on youtube and how to grow a subscriber. I've never learned anything . I did the hard way of doing it my own lesson, learning from my channels in my niche how they do . How do they make thumbnails intro and the editing. Now i know some things im still learning n now my channel is growing more engagements over time 😊😊😊

I've watched enough of them (and made enough vids) to realize that it doesn't matter how many times they tell you to get clicks, hook people, and follow through; they either can't or won't tell you HOW to do that on YOUR channel. Even channel "reviews" only touch the surface.

I swear I thought I was the only one who always noticed this. It's like a hivemind of creators that just jump on the bandwagon of "trust me guys, you too can do it in your niche of choice" or "watch me create a brand new channel and grow it immensely" and then proceed to create more of what they were already doing in the first place. I respect a lot of these creators don't get me wrong, but it's very frustrating to be noticing this in action, like most of these tips and tricks just don't apply as magically as you think UNLESS you're gonna create the exact same content.
On the other hand I am definitely the type of creator (and even just hobbyist) that will spend more time watching and learning theory about certain topics than actually going out and doing the damn thing.

    Nice production quality.
Wouldn't go as far as to call these channels a scam though, it's very useful info. But once you get the knowledge, you have to focus on your own work and stop watching them. It's like with reading self-help books, reading 2 books and taking action based on it is infinitely better than reading 30 and taking no action.
What is very surprising to me though is that there are plenty of small channels that want to break out on RUclips in this "RUclips Growth" niche. Do they really have anything unique and new to say in the subject? All the info is already out there and they can't really talk from experience. Seems obvious to me that an average viewer is almost always going to click on the big channel in this niche.
One positive thing I get from the big "RUclips Growth" channels is that they have been doing this content for years and pretty much saying the same things over and over and people keep watching the videos. Gives me confidence that I can always re-do a topic I've already covered on my channel by just adding a twist to it and people will watch it if the quality is good.
Cheers, good luck on your journey :)

Good video and you make a good point. What those channels do is just standard marketing practice in business today rather than a scam. That said, those marketing techniques can be manipulative and draw in some vulnerable people at times .. not just those channels.. just generally in business.. ive seen it so many times in the coaching and wellbeing industry..
Good video and very well made though.. well done you for challenging this

  • @voxus579
    @voxus579 Месяц назад +2

This is not a bait and switch though. If a „How to go viral“ wouldn’t talk about how to go viral at all, and THEN try to sell a course for virality, that‘d be a bait and switch.
They also aren’t „baiting with one and selling another“, they attract you with how to go viral and sell exactly that
While surely out there too, in most cases it’s just a funnel. Giving a little information for free, and upselling the rest.

    • @MasonGodwin1
      @MasonGodwin1  Месяц назад

When you sell a video as the answer for "going viral," you wouldn't need to offer a class or coaching. The video should have already taught you the lesson.
The bait-n-switch comes when they sell you the class, and during the class, they tell you it takes a lot longer than originally promised. VidIQ, for instance, makes videos with titles like "0 --> 1,000 subscribers in 7 days with one video." The girl I featured for the 'VidIQ coaching review scene,' said her channel grew from 10s of subscribers to just over 100 subscribers. She's paid for their coaching for several months. That's the bait-n-switch.

    • @voxus579
      @voxus579 Месяц назад +1

@@MasonGodwin1 did you ever pay for a youtube or a filmmaking course?
As I can tell you, your editing is well put together and the packaging matches the hook - You can tell you know what you’re doing.
So it would seem those free videos over time did teach you valuable lessons to now be able to create an engaging video, that’s getting 100x your normal views. So were they all a scam?
Now, yes, NOT everyone that watches a „How To Get 1k Subs in 7 Days“ will achieve just that.
      That’s an impossible claim.
-> Now in my view, if however they themselves did what their title promises, I‘d call that a fair trade off.
Is delivering free information and selling more, inherently a scam now?
As I can tell you, that’s how all of the social media education world works.
You show that you’re credible and give out free stuff. Then you say there’s a more detail in my course.
So is it here. I‘m sure you learned many lessons from those videos still.
The phrasing of those titles implying that EVERYONE will 100% guaranteed will make it, is the one point I see here.
-> Yes, chances are, you wont achieve what the title promises. Does the video still get you closer to the goal? In many cases, I say yes, those videos help with the things they have inside.
Could a course with more detail accelerate the process?
It could very well be, and not be. That’s your risk, to trust the creator, but I deem the tendency to be: yes more detailed info helps.
      CONCLUSION:
Atleast in most of the videos I watched, they actually do teach you the core concepts of how to go viral.
„Make a good video interesting to many people“, is more or less paraphrased in all videos.
It’s always the basics, and after a couple videos you know everything you need to know.
NOW what is debatable is: are those courses anything more? As long as they provide more hands on guidance, a plan and or some resources, paired with the extra drive you get from investing in something and wanting to make your money’s worth, I‘d say yes.
-> A real bait-n-switch would be to not deliver what’s needed (which I feel like most of them do, as I mentioned earlier) and to say you‘ll need their course to go viral.
Which in most cases I know is NOT their pitch. Ali‘s academy isn’t a REPLACEMENT for his videos, it’s an expandment.
