Yea for $2500 a pull I bet you very much value all your beta testers (MDR/MDRX owners) and very much believe they made a great choice purchasing one. As an MDRX owner to say I'm upset is a mild understatement. Of course I fully expect your entire executive team to ignore this comment and gloss over it with corporate minimization talk with some buzzwords. Do right. Only reason I plan on upgrading is to take advantage of shaving a pound off my rifle and better accuracy.

FWIW they did like my comment about the lifetime warranty naturally meaning when parts for the mdrx run our, the warranty would move to the nearest equivalent as a replacement. Hopefully that is a positive nod to what is reasonably expected by consumers with a lifetime warranty.
It's not so crazy, really, IF the parts will run out in ten years, having an MDRX replaced my a now, Ten year old WLVRN line, is not the same as expecting to turn in your mdrx for having a scratch and expecting to get a new WLVRN now in '24. By then the WLVRN will probably be the old model being phased out.

Every other lifetime warranty is basically the life of the product not as long as you feel like producing/supporting it and if it needs service that can't be done it's replaced with an equivalent which in this case would be the wlvrn. This is a bad look and really inexcusable. 10 years is cool and all but a gun can last much longer and refusing support after this while claiming lifetime warranty is just scummy.
The competition is often cheaper and provides better support based off this alone. If this wasn't meant to be as stated it's very poorly phrased if the intention is to honor the warranty like is standard anywhere else.

  • @88kar88
    @88kar88 6 месяцев назад +17

Given the advertised lifetime warranty for the MDRX, naturally the lifetime warranty should mean that a after running out of MDRX parts, a defective MDRX should be replaced by the nearest equivalent WLVRN. Be good to the customers.

I agree with some of the comments I'm seeing concerning the "lifetime" warranty. Several of the optics I own are no longer being manufactured but the lifetime warranty still means lifetime. They don't just redefine the term. It would be better to not say "lifetime" as "life of product" is not the same thing. It is kind of a hard pill to swallow buying something more expensive than a Daniel Defense that simply "may" be supported in 10 years, but maybe not.

The biggest complaint you most likely get is the lack of forward-eject support in the newer itteration of the MDR style platform. I have been following the progress and refining your products for a good many of years, I can assure you that when many of reviews pick apart the not up to snuff parts or oversight, the one thing they always love and praise is the forward eject system unique to that platform. I understand it made clearing malfynction more time consuming, however this company has seen how military trials chew up and spit out any companies whom dare propose a bullpup design. For the most part your company has been involved in the sale of firearms to the civilian market. It could be unwise to deny the people of what they love about your product, truely the forward eject was one of the very few things making the MDR platform stand out from the crowd on the surface. (Only other forward eject rifle I can think of is the FN F2000)

    • @EdBowl
      @EdBowl 6 месяцев назад +2

Well said! I agree completely. I think DT is dreaming of the big military contract score that is never going to come. Even if their product was the best, the military would never choose them because even as a small company they can't get their $#!+ together.

The new MDRx accuracy update kit looks and sounds great. Could there be an option to install the oprod and piston ourselves at home with work instructions and if we want the jb weld work done send back?
I am a little disappointed that a Rifle length gas system for 20" barrel full power cartriges is not being worked now that the gas block can slide under the handguard and move forward. Moving it forward should improve performance of those cartriges delaying the oprod force until after the bullet leaves the barrel.

    ON INOVATION VS. RIFLE LIFETIMES
I'm with Nik on this one. The motto is "Tomorrow's Weapons". You can't always make the changes you'd like to improve a rifle, and still have it backwards compatible. Stay on course. Keep innovating and improving your products.
That said however there is a balance to be maintained. 10 years is a VERY short "life" for a rifle. Rifles are often handed down through generations. Even innovative rifles like the MDRX should be capable of being used AND RAPAIRED indefinitely. Once you get to the end of a 10 year cycle you should release a packet of drawings, manufacturing procedures, tolerances, and material specs. that will allow a competent gunsmith to repair your products generations hence. All parts wear. All parts eventually have to be replaced with newly manufactured parts. You really should either make packets of the information available for sale, OR commit to maintaining a library of all the information required to re-manufacture all parts on your products for generations to come.
The MDR line is going to have it's place in the history of firearms. There will come a time when the forward ejecting multi-caliber bullpup that really did alter the bullpup market will be a rifle that may overtime be somewhat obsolete, but still a valuable addition to a serious collector's collection.
DON'T sell your innovative products short. Don't sell the name Desert Tech short. It's a young company now, but in time Desert Tech will be a firearms manufacturer with a long and storied past someday.
You can't know where you're going without remembering where you've been.

My buddy offered to sell me his MDRX, but seeing how it doesn't have a true lifetime warranty, I guess I won't be getting it or any future MDR products. Really wanted a left hand SRS-A1 (as there are no LH A2s or M2s), but the last thing I want to be told is "we no longer support that model".

Companies discontinue items all the time and offer nothing in return… DT is offering to support their previous line of products for another ten years. Your own lifetime warranty describes it as life of the rifle. So what you are telling all of us it is only 10 years from now and that is only because you designed a replacement.
So you essentially worked in your description legal goal posts you can move at your discretion.
What if I had an MDRx that was never fired for twelve years and at twelve years something broke. I would just be SOL?
You need to change your definition to a limited 10 year warranty on your products or support the people that supported you by not deceiving them. We are not the military with unlimited taxpayer funds. We are the common man. The common man would agree that you should not be allowed to so arbitrarily decide what lifetime warranty means according to your convenience.
A trade in and trade up is a totally appropriate substitute option for the lifetime warranty after 10 years. You are providing no options for customers after 10 years that genuinely love the platform.

Hej DT, awesome work with your MDR/MDRX/WLVRN 🎉!
Last year i bought an new MDRX,
And now i want the WLVRN 😅.
So my question, as forma german soldier, weapons has to be robust and realible.
We drove with an weeltank over an G36😮 ups, and it still funktioned!
But the carbonfiber/ plastic has an aging prozess!
The new gun from HK, the HK 433 or 437(300blk version) has milled aluminium part exept the pistol grip and the falting buttstock.
It makes a gun, you can still use in decades or in 100 years and it is massiv!
The HK G28 has a lot of too!
The DT WLVRN dont have a real seperatet Buttstock.
So in my opinion you could build an millitary standart massiv Sabertooth/WLVRN with a combination of milled Aluminium Parts, substitute Steel and Aluminium Parts with titanium and Magnesium/Lithium allous and so the gun should be unbeatable on the market.
A great option with fair price, and the gold option for examble for Delta Force and rich DT/Bullpub fans❤😊

When a decent company makes a claim such as “lifetime warranty,“ it should be committed to producing the parts for the product for the life of the COMPANY, not the product. The “lifetime warranty“ is a major consideration when purchasing such an expensive rifle. It gives peace of mind that, if the expensive rifle breaks down, that the company will stand behind it and will repair it at their own expense.

The warranty is concerning. Between 2 MDRxs over the past few years, ive had several parts fail and need to be replaced (bolt, firing pins, safety switches/safety detents, trigger group, trigger group retaining clip) and have heard many other parts failing from different users.
With your work-in-progress gen 2 mdrs being unsupported in way of the gen 3 wlvrn, which will likely suffer the same fate, you'll be loosing a lot of customers to other platforms.

Current MDRX owner & fan, and yes *definitely I am interested in the idea of DT modifying the MDRX assembly (op rod & barrel mounting). I’d just want to know that a JB Weld solution would be reliable & effective for a reasonable length of rifle lifetime/round count*
Edit: I wanted to add that I truly appreciate DT being a forward-facing company by going out of your way to address questions & provide information up front rather than being opaque. Y’all didn’t have to do this stream nor address owner questions, but you chose to give us your time. Appreciated.
Last thought: I can only think of one truly good argument for offering current MDRX owners some kind of *discount* on a WLVRN purchase (not a trade in, a discount):
The cost of the MDRX didn’t match its performance as sold until maybe the final year of the production; we can’t go backward in time, but offering a reasonable discount to legacy MDRX owners who can prove current ownership would silence and satisfy probably every reasonable owner out there. 10%? Seems reasonable.

You guys have a communication and image problem. I don't think you realize that you're doing it. You might want to consider hiring or consulting with an expert in that kind of thing. You walked right into controversy with your phrasing here when what you are delivering is actually pretty reasonable.
I get similar vibes from the breakdowns of the work you've done to compete for military contracts. It sounds very much like the "engineer got the microphone" so-to-speak, and you probably don't realize how some of the things you say sound. That stuff matters. Networking community, marketing, image, and soft skills in general matter an enormous amount.
Maybe that stuff is not your favorite thing and you prefer to just think about making the technology better (and I can definitely relate), but I think this is holding you back.

As of today I have out about 200 rounds through my MDRX, it’s a July 2023 model (per the QC sign off) 300blackout. I have yet to make it through a 30 round mag without a stoppage. My concern is sending my rifle in multiple times just to have it break again in a year or two and then be screwed in terms of a warranty. I think if you guys are going to eventually stop supporting the MDRX warranty then allowing 3rd parties to pick up the slack in those parts that could break would be good. And if it’s ever logistically possible, having that upgrade option for MDRX owners would absolutely be faith restoring. All I’m saying is never say never. All that said, I do love my MDRX and it would be my favorite rifle hands down if I could get through a whole mag.
