    In my case, I can’t do regular barre chords due to losing a third of my pointer finger :(
    So knowing other ways to pass this hurdle is good.
    Thanks Andy.

    Yep, learn and persevere with barre chords but... These alternate shapes are important because other people play them. If you know them you will recognise what they are doing.

      I struggled with barre chords in the early days also. A great tip I received was to use a capo on (say) 3rd fret and play the chords as you would with no capo…there is less tension on the strings with a capo so they are easier to push down. Try the F chord with a capo on 3rd or 5th fret, it will be easier and will keep you motivated to keep trying.

    Hey Andy, your videos have been helping me a lot with my guitar playing. One question though. Whenever I bring my thumb up to Barre the upper E string, my palm kind of muted the lower E string. I can't seem to correct it. Can you please suggest something for that. Thanks again for all your help:)

    Anyone struggling with Fm Barre chord use both fingers to press down until you build up enough strength

    • @andycrowley
      @andycrowley  5 лет назад +5

      I remember doing that myself! The Fm is so tough, especially on acoustic. Nothing wrong with a little help for now, but remember to work towards fingers 2, 3 and 4 remaining separate from the 1st and staying right on their tips! 🎸

    Your lessons are great Andy,2 yr ago I'd never held a guitar,didn't even know how many strings,but now thanks to you I can play a few songs and open chords.but I'm 48 so 46 I'd never held a guitar,I love it,but I feel that because I don't know barre chords I'm not any good,but I love plate open chord songs I know so should I start learning barre chords or is it too soon,I have an acoustic so barre chords are for electric really,any advice andy

      I know you can't reply to every comment,but I think il just keep playing open chord songs and try learn the barre chord as I get familiar,coz I remember less than 2yr ago learning em and thinking "yes I played a proper chord"but is going from knowing nothing to being able to play a few songs in a yr and half,should I be further on,I only watch the tutorials on RUclips,so yeah I think so,thanks Andy I've learned a lot from your channel and il download your app

      Either stick with the power chord for now, or use the 7th fret version, which should ring out fine for you 🎸🔊

      I have short sausage-like fingers also 😂 so I feel your pain. A great tip I received was to use a capo on (say) 3rd fret and play the chords as you would with no capo…there is less tension on the strings with a capo so they are easier to push down. Try the F chord with a capo on 3rd or 5th fret, it will be easier and will keep you motivated to keep trying.

    If you regularly stretch your fingers, barre chords become much easier. It also prevents hand injuries.

    A barre chord is probably the most important as it opens up the whole fretboard, learning shortcuts when learning probably means you will never advance.

    The e scale sequence bizarrely also fits neatly - or nearly - with Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan. Altho Bob plays in a different key. Innerestin none the less.
