Thanks for sharing! I just picked up a 1794 in PA for 1500 under MSRP. I wanted a limited off road trim but I would have had to wait months and a markup. So far I'm super happy with it!

When you allow dealerships to sell a car with a $10,000 markup than they will continue doing so. There is a stealership in MD (Bel Air Maryland Jones Junction Toyota) that has a $20,000 market adjustment on a Tundra TRD Pro. Some sap will pay the $92,000 and they will continue with the market adjustments. I just put a deposit on a 2023 Tundra TRD Pro for MSRP and no dealership add-ons. If a dealership is willing to screw you over with a big markup I can’t imagine what they are adding to the backend of the deal.

I managed to get a 2023 Pro at MSRP with a trade at first but they didn't give me top dollar for my trade so I sold it to carmax. Luckily the dealer was still willing to do the deal at MSRP. I lucked out thankfully.

I had 2020 tundra sr5 with nav and also put aftermarket accessories on and it was a lease. Went to priority Springfield and they were desperate to buy my truck. I owe 42k on the lease and they paid it off and gave me 3k towards the new truck. I purchased 2022 platinum and it was a 10k mark up, so they took 10k off plus the 3k.

Totally with you buddy! No one is MAKING people buy cars above MSRP. They all have a choice to walk away, say no or just get out of the market. The value of something is the price someone is willing to pay. Period. No one on the forums who is posting their opinion would turn down an extra 10k for a vehicle they were selling lol. That said some dealers are shady and use pressure and manipulation to trick people who may not understand the process. I feel that side is very wrong.

I had a 2014 avalon and it had 235000 miles with aftermarket rims and it was in excellent condition, Toyota was only offering me $2100 may be $2300. I was not happy with that amount because I still owed about $2300 so I took a friend's idea and went to carmax and the give me $5000 payed the car off then cut me a check for the remainder which made me very happy. I took that and add enough to bring it to $10.000 used that as a down-payment, went to me navy Federal got a check for $53000 and got a limited TRD offroad RWD and I was able to pay asking with no market adjustment because they were not doing that. Dude I get what you are saying but you should have Sell your truck separate from the new truck you bought. I know carmax in maryland is killing any dealers trade amounts. The other part I would change is dont buy cars from friends at dealership. Go where no one knows you so you can be a serious negotiator. I would not have let that truck go for less than 50k with all the money you have in it. Be curious what they list your truck for at the dealership. You should ask your friend. Bet somebody that worked there bought it.

Welcome to capitalism. Dealers will continue to add markups as long as people are willing to pay them. I agree with you on the math in your case - sounds like it worked out well, especially since you got the truck you wanted.
    My thought is this…
The only power I have in this crazy world for ending the escalating inflation is not to participate. So we’ve stopped buying things we used to because they’re astronomically expensive, even if we could afford it in many cases. Are they gonna go broke because I don’t purchase? Heck no, but neither am I ! Ha.
I REALLY want a TRD Pro, so we’ll see if my principles are strong enough to avoid the purchase when (if?) the opportunity presents itself.

The reason people complain about other paying the "market adjustments" is because it perpetuates them. If people would stop paying it dealers would stop doing it. In the end it affects the amount of money they're going to have to spend also. A lot of people overreact but that's the reason.
