One thing about being a father is to not force anything onto your children. They'll respect you much more for giving them a choice and paying attention to your children's personality and interests. I made your recipe for fish cakes and I've got to say they were outstanding! My hubby didn't like the honey so I sautéed garlic in butter, added lemon, white wine and fresh thyme, let it reduce a bit and used that instead. It was sooooo good! Thanks for great vids and recipes.

Used to work with some people out of the very rural Biloxi and Shreveport areas who put together what they called "gar balls". Back in the early '90s. Never found out the recipe, but it was gooood! Those treats along with gumbo was some of the best eats I've ever had. Thank you for posting!
Watching Aria catch that fish brought back memories of me fishing with my son when he was about 3 or 4 and after I cast about 25 ft for him he took over and immediately got a hit and he reeled it in until it was 2 ft from the dock. It was a gar about 15 - 20 inches long and just as he tried to lift it, it threw the hook and took off. He was really upset but proud of the fact that he almost landed it. I will never forget 32yrs ago my baby sister was tagging along on a fishing trip with us and after fishing for two hours she wanted to start fishing too but with her SNOOPY pole ok we both thought she was never going to catch anything well we were dead wrong she ended up catching a 34 inch sturgeon on a lousy snoopy pole and I caught a bullhead(bait) I couldn't hve been more proud of her even though it was undersized and she got some assistance it was a-lot of fun

I have been fishing since I was 3 and hunting since 13. Unfortunately there werent many others in my family I could share that wonderful experience with. Go to Lake Ontario (in Canada) and go catch some salmon and carp also there is this place called 16mile creek and in November the fish are like a foot long please do this 🥺
If you want to add a new layer of flavor, with larger gar loins, salt and pepper them and do a very quick hot sear on a grill before you chop it up and make them into cakes. I made a very similar recipe myself about 10 years ago. I find that by searing the gar briefly before you chop it up it brings out more flavor from the gar.

Ya know, this really reminds me of a dish my mom makes. She beats a couple of egg whites till their nice and puffy then slowly adds the yolks. Add some salt and pepper. After that she gets a handful of a dried Mexican fish called charales, or silveresides in english. She then gets the hand full now mixed with the egg and places it into some hot oil until its crispy yet fluffy, almost like fish cakes
for a tasty treat ,mix 50/50 fish and veggie mix .the veggie mix is lots of shredded potatoes ,onion,garlic ,peppers sweet and hot,and seasonings breaded in a mixture of 75% cornmeal and 25% self rising flour ! .this mixture is also great for making fish meatballs cooked in heavy tomato sauce !
