  • Climate change exacerbates the risk of extreme weather-related disasters, caused by naturally occurring hazards such as droughts, heat waves, wildfires, tornados, floods, hurricanes, tropical storms, and blizzards. These naturally occurring hazards often disrupt agricultural, forestry, and rangeland production systems. In addition to land degradation, agricultural supply chains are often adversely impacted by these disasters at the production, processing, distribution and consumption stages. This webinar explores the intersection of climate change and food and nutrition insecurity. During the webinar, NIFA staff will first explain NIFA’s relatively new rapid response funding mechanism designed to better explore these intersections. In addition, funded project teams shares overviews of their work exploring these issues during recent extreme weather events. Panelists also discuss considerations for post-incident collaboration and community engagement efforts.
