That was so funny Terry, there's a first time for everything bud... When I was akid mum & dad owned the Greyhound pub in Tibenham in Norfolk, dad had a piano in the place and it would have been great if someone like yourself hadpopped in to give it a blast... we had a lady called Ivy that used to play it sometimes... I think dad fancied getting his leg over if I'm honest.. I had the chance to play that piano for years and never did, what a regret, it's such a talent that you guys have... keep making us smile mate xx.
That's a wonderful story, I was actually in the Greyhound in Tibenham just the other day, unfortunately, it's fallen under the spell of the modern day office kit refurb, quite a heart breaking visit, not a single customer and a landlord that stares at you in the garden making sure you don't come back... :(
@@Wh_Lane A great shame, when dad purchased it I think in the early 70's it had been closed for some time, he originally thought he could turn it into a family home but fell foul of the planning laws around public houses I think, so he opened it as a pup, he was great as a punter in a pub but not so good as landlord. They stuck at it for a couple of years and had some really good days there, the best was when a couple of busloads of Ipswich supporters called in on the way back from Carrow Road, I think he almost ran out of beer, Mum certainly ran out of bread... she used to make sandwiches up for the hungry. I'm only 25 minutes away and really should call in again.
Back in the '6Os my dear mother wanted me to learn to play the piano well so people would gather 'round to sing, and I would be the "life of the party"! Well, I learned to play, but not well enough to be the life of the party like you! Well, maybe not today! 💗

In Germany in some pubs, it would be vice versa: piano playing during a TV soccer game, mostly is an absolute no go. And not the audience people would leave the pub, but the piano player 🤠 ! For his own safety and health 😄😄😄 !

i love you - wow! im agitarist of 40 years - been playing live in the med for many years - this summer - tried to do a few gigs playing four (4) hour sets - and nobody wanted to pay me indiffernet crowds all staring at phones with maybe 5 % interest - funnily enough it means more when someone asks why you aren't playing or performing (usually a non uk person) you have to tell them the truth its all gone pete tong x massive respect to you

About 38 years ago some mates and I went to live in England from Australia and stayed in Lower Clapton. A close by pub in Hacney featured a boogie woogie pianist and we loved it, even though musically we were more into Echo and The Bunnymen and The Triffids. Oh Hackney, what has become of you?
