Thank you so much for the amazing video! This unit is awesome, incredible demo. Your bass sounds amazing, what are you using??? Also, trying to nail the Novoselic tone, how do you think he used this unit on per se, in bloom?
Thank you Noah! I am using a Fender P bass with Seymour Duncan quarter pounders into a DI signal (if I remember right). Andy would feed this into a "send" channel under the rest of the bass tone. Phase and balance of the two signals becomes crucial and the amount of bass frequencies you keep in the symphonic track matter, so play with finding the right blend and not having too many add up (try EQ/ high pass on the send track). Cheers ;) - Bahrum
Have REV7 and that plate definitely reminds me of REV7, I swear it is that sound! Have you tested these two plates side by side with the same dry/wet setting? Heck... perhaps an idea for the future video. Add a Symphonic and a couple of Halls and we have a video content for all those who can't decided between the two. ;)
Hi, so the effect to emulating nirvana bass tone is "symphonic, program 15" of the yamaha spx90? the other yamaha's did closely the same right? Im looking for a plugin that can make the effect, you know someone? or some yamaha plugin? great video man greetings from chile
Sebastian Catalan thanks! I’m not familiar with a plug-in that can do “symphonic”. Even the other Yamahas don’t sound like the SP90 symphonic. It is worth trying before you attempt to replicate with a plugin. Cheers!
@@BlueHouseSoundStudio Michael Nielsen says, there is now such a plugin from Overloud TH-U - whatever that means..: ruclips.net/video/F2nnJiUf2l0/видео.html
Thank you so much for this. I will be picking up a Yamaha MG16XU mixing console in a few days and it has a symphonic option on its in-built effect processor. Do you have any experience with this line of consoles? I hope it sounds identical to the SPX90's, but I'm doubtful.
Thank you for enjoying! I am not familiar with the MG16XU but I would assume they would be very different... of course similar enough to be useful and get you going with it. I have the SPX 2000 , Yamahas newest box and I think the symphonic on it is different but fantastic, so heres hoping that board is similar. Cheers.
In mixing yes you would use this as a send / return and blend a little of your stereo signal in under your main bass tone. Also consider the phase and bass build up. Try Rolling off the low end on the signal you are sending to the Spx So you don’t get too much competing low end when mixed back with your main signal. Cheers
I just looked up other videos and it seems like the letters are all green with a green to black background. I think you can adjust the brightness. The main thing might be my color correction/ lut choices I used for the video. I have seen cool OLED replacements out there for things. I have a cool orange display I put in my Yamaha dx7 synth. Cheers
It is not. There is a shoot-out on gearslutz where a guy has clips for every Yamaha unit and you can actually hear the differences in the sound of each piece doing symphonic. I preferred the SPX90. Some are better than others but all are actually different! Cheers
There is one now apparently... ! but, good luck on the true quality of it. No offense to the creators but I don’t want to make audio with an easy-bake oven... nor are my aspirations the equivalent of a fry cook working at a fast food joint when it comes to mixing songs. The real unit is really worth it if you like the sound, Cheers 😎
Didn't know it was used on a Nirvana record, nice! I got one years ago for the obvious reason, My Bloody Valentine.
Thank you!
Finally, just what I was looking for. Perfect demo man thanks !!
Chains Interlinked thanks dude!
This needs way more views. Great demo!
Thank you dude!
Depeche Mode/Personal Jesus/Dave Gahan vocal is made on this magic box haha! Cheers.
Thanks for sharing! I love knowing these kinds of tidbits!
I have the SPX90 in our recording studio. Going to use it on a bit of bass next album!
Awesome!
@@BlueHouseSoundStudio YES!!!! I feel like my life is complete!!!!
wow! really awesome demonstration of SPX 90! What an amazing unit!
Thank you man!
Great video! I really want one of these.
Thanks !

Total flashback!
Symphonic,to me, sounds like a little flange and chorus both set at a slow rate.
Accurate!
Awesome

nice.

Awesome! that's a great Idea for a video! something actually almost more "warm" dare I say in a lot of the SPX 90
I heard dave mustaine of megadeth used this on the countdown to extinction tour
Used in a lot of classic setups!
I love to modulate the speed of the Symphonic on my REV5 while things are plyaiong thru it...

Did alice in chains use this for them bones on the bass if not what did they use i like that flanger sound on the bass in them bones
Great question! I do not know!
According to Rick Beato, yes. ruclips.net/video/F916ioSWdts/видео.htmlfeature=shared
So u ever just go mono out if u wanna keep the chorus centered ? Or is the main approach to go stereo out & mix the signal in with the dry ?

“Not Andy Wallace” 😂😂😂
Glad someone appreciates my humor lol
Hi. Do you know in what songs and albuns was used ? Did Krist used this chorus on live shows too ? Thanks
This was used on Nevermind in the mix. I doubt her used it live. Cheers.
nice..! where you got that display..? i got one like this for my Alesis but i cant find a black one for my "new" Spx..!
Isn’t that the stock display? I assumed it was.
@@BlueHouseSoundStudio i believe its not, most of the SPX i´ve seen are green with the letters in black, this one looks waaay cooler IMO.

Is "Symphonic" sound the same on the SPX90ii as the original SPX90?
They actually sound really different! You would be better off getting a Rev 7 for a closer sound IMO.
It is. I actually own Andy's old one from Soundtrack Studio G. It's the SPX 90ii

For bass guitar, live performance, would the chorus or flanger sound ok just going out mono (through the L output)?
